I always thought his theme was like he’s confused. He doesn’t feel anything anymore, he doesn’t care. So he kinda just lets Eddie go crazy, and the only time he’s brought back to the calm is Millia. She anchors him, he feels when around her. He doesn’t understand why he likes Millia but he does, simply because Eddie isn’t in control as much. These two love each other, even death didn’t stop Zato’s love.
Considering how hard wanted Zato to finish his life and how carelessly he acts when he's target of a Heavenly Potemkin Buster and other similar stuff; but Eddie realized that he had Milia wanting him back and wanted Zato to feel back what he felt before getting totally assimilated by Eddie at the end of Missing Link... This theme fits of someone emotionally dead since long ago, fits someone slowly recovering his will to live one way (Milia growing closer to Zato once more) or another (Eddie making Zato see how life really is for him)
I love the dynamic of Eddie being a dubious creature that steals his master's body and realising that it was such a dick move that he felt guilty and tried to bring him back to life

Zato had forced Milia to take up the hair spell and join the assassins, and while he genuinely loved her (and her, he), eventually Milia betrayed the Assassin's guild. Zato's body begins dying as early as GG1, but by GGXX he had just become a walking corpse infused with Eddie- Milia killing him was entirely a mercy kill. Offscreen, he had fully passed away, but he was revived before Xrd. The resurrection cost Zato his ability to feel anything, but he quickly learned that Milia was the only person or thing that incited any emotion within him. From there, he swore to protect Milia even if she hated him, as a payback for his awful behavior while alive and a way to show his love. Very complicated relationship between the two

Something I like is how it's a theme not just for Zato, but for Eddie as well. Some parts don't fit Zato's character and history, but with Eddie added in it paints a full picture of two beings, able to barely live a half life alone, bound together

It's also a fantastic piece of existentialist thought that is grounded in very human feelings. Existence and meaning are huge themes in GG in general it seems. In a lot of ways many of GG's characters are a kind of mirror to the way a lot of people in today's society feel. GG's characters exist in a state more intense and drastic than normality, super-normal lives. I think many today live in what we perceive as sub-normal lives, where our lives are missing things we expect as normal human behavior. GG's characters and ourselves share the same issue from two opposing ends, that is to say, we all desire what we think are normal human lives. GG's characters lives are too full, and ours too empty, but the same problems, desires, and emotions remain. Even in extraordinary circumstances, the Human heart is motivated by the same fundamental experiences we all share. TL;DR Damn, that's some good thematic writing.

Sometimes I think about how Zato's theme (especially that last part) is kinda about his effect on Millia, and how even after loving, betraying, fighting, killing (twice) and reconciling with him, Zato's legacy will always linger with her, and many people will just know her as "that woman who betrayed Zato". It’s so fascinating that in the past, I didn’t entirely think this song was good. And then I was suddenly struck with the worst feeling ever that is still corrupting me to this day: losing someone that I considered a brother because he threw away our friendship like a chewed up piece of gum. It was after that that I’ve cried multiple times listening to this song, and it’s now one of my favorites. “I once had some sweet memories, it’s worth remains all the same.”

I swear, this man is a JoJo character. I mean, he got a stand which is unique in design and power. Controlling you own shadow into doing anything that you want. Huh. Yeah, Araki, get on this, this is amazing. Zato-1 was just an ordinary man at one time. Well, he was until he joined the assassination guild. He tried to be the best of the best, but struggled. He was hungry for power and wanted to be the best, so he read a book and learned one of the Forbidden Beasts: the Shadow. But, in the book, it said that one must sacrifice something important to gain this said beast. And that sacrifice was Zato-1’s eyes. Now blind, but wielding the beast, he rose to the top. Though, it was said that this shadow drained someone’s life force when used and he slowly dwindled and then died, Eddie (his shadow beast) took over his deceased body and controlled it. Somehow, though, he was revived, but was devoid of emotion. The only reason he left his old resting place was because of Millia. Now we lead into Strive. His theme is about his struggle with becoming himself once again because of Eddie. The only thing that makes him feel somthing is Millia and that’s love. He promises, in this theme, that no matter what happens, he’ll carve her way and support her until she succeeds. It is such a sweet and genuine moment for Zato-1 and, to be honest, it makes me emotional listening to this theme. Certified bop.

Something I like is how it's a theme not just for Zato, but for Eddie as well.
Some parts don't fit Zato's character and history, but with Eddie added in it paints a full picture of two beings, able to barely live a half life alone, bound together

I think the feelings in Zato's story here at the end are some of the most human and relatable emotions portrayed in a video game character. It's also a fantastic piece of existentialist thought that is grounded in very human feelings. Existence and meaning are huge themes in GG in general it seems.
In a lot of ways many of GG's characters are a kind of mirror to the way a lot of people in today's society feel. GG's characters exist in a state more intense and drastic than normality, super-normal lives. I think many today live in what we perceive as sub-normal lives, where our lives are missing things we expect as normal human behavior. GG's characters and ourselves share the same issue from two opposing ends, that is to say, we all desire what we think are normal human lives. GG's characters lives are too full, and ours too empty, but the same problems, desires, and emotions remain. Even in extraordinary circumstances, the Human heart is motivated by the same fundamental experiences we all share.

Zato-1 was just an ordinary man at one time. Well, he was until he joined the assassination guild. He tried to be the best of the best, but struggled. He was hungry for power and wanted to be the best, so he read a book and learned one of the Forbidden Beasts: the Shadow. But, in the book, it said that one must sacrifice something important to gain this said beast. And that sacrifice was Zato-1’s eyes. Now blind, but wielding the beast, he rose to the top. Though, it was said that this shadow drained someone’s life force when used and he slowly dwindled and then died, Eddie (his shadow beast) took over his deceased body and controlled it. Somehow, though, he was revived, but was devoid of emotion. The only reason he left his old resting place was because of Millia. Now we lead into Strive. His theme is about his struggle with becoming himself once again because of Eddie. The only thing that makes him feel somthing is Millia and that’s love. He promises, in this theme, that no matter what happens, he’ll carve her way and support her until she succeeds. It is such a sweet and genuine moment for Zato-1 and, to be honest, it makes me emotional listening to this theme. Certified bop.

Porque al principio pensé que “drive piles” podría ser [drive/conducir/llevar] [piles/pilas/montones] o sea tapar las huellas o tapar el pasado, pero luego descubrí que se le llama “drive piler” a una máquina de construcción que sirve para clavar pilares de soporte para construcciones en el piso, haciendo que la acción de colocar esos pilares en el piso sea “drive piling” o en este caso según la versión del presente indefinido del verbo; “drive piles”.
Lo que se traduciría a [drive piles/clavar pilares/erguir pilares] (o asegurar/proteger/reforzar el pasado) llevándome a la conclusión de que podría ser cualquiera de los siguientes dos ejemplos:
1.- Lleva! Lleva! Lleva pilas (montones) a tus viejas huellas.
2.- Clava! Clava! Clava pilares en tus viejas huellas.
