Hello Elaine and thank you for your interest. The school shown in the video had training and setup for a peer mediation scheme over 10 years ago. There were certainly successes for the school and pupils at that time. For a scheme to continue being successful for the whole school community (staff, pupils, parents and the local community, including police in this case), all need to be aware, support and help make it work. With pupils obviously changing each year - school leavers going and new intakes coming in - ongoing training, support and awareness for the whole community is absolutely vital for any scheme to continue. This ongoing support was not taken up after initial setup, so we cannot comment on how things are now at the school.
@@vooles It is a pity. I could see from when the video went up. If the Head at the time and the teachers wanted it to continue it would, as even taking into account the leavers and the new intakes of both pupils and staff, if it is to become a normal part of school life just like maths and English, then it would continue. I spoke with some pupils in a school in North London and they were talking about mental health and who they go to when or if their friends are feeling down, and they said their friends. I dont know the structure of their school, but peer mediation is an extension of that. I dont know if you are connected with the school, but it would be good if you could try and get it started back again, if not that school but others throughout the country.
Interestingly there are no comments on this video. Does that mean the peer mediation doesnt work at this school
