This is absolutely BRILLIANT!
You're obsessive, I love it. The amount of thought and research that you've done is impressive.
Extremely well organized and documented. Well done. Exemplary piece of work. Thanks for sharing.
When it came to others building my design, I felt responsible to make them very comprehensive. This is 100% for the builders out there. 👍
Hi KJ. I just watched your excellent video on how to follow your plans. I thought your plans were already self explanatory. I am finding them great. Thanks KJ..👌
I get PM’s all day asking about details of the plans and the format and how to get them and what is all included. This was to address those questions. More for subscribers who don’t have the plans yet. 😉. Thanks for the comment, Steven. Been working all day, new stuff out soon!
Great plans! It all makes perfect sense easy too read and figure out. If people can’t then they probably should not be building it themselves.
Thank you George F. It’s been a while, are you getting caught up?
Well explained brother, that’s why like your video’s. Keep’um coming 👍
Thank you very much. I really appreciate that.
Man I've been looking to build acart for a while now I've stubled across this thankyou for the super clean well layed out plans and to know there's a Facebook group tied to the build makes problem solving alot easier thanks for making life simpler
Thank you so much. I’m so glad you found this if you were wanting a little garage project. Enjoy the build and post some pics up in the group if you would be so kind.
@@KJRaycing definitely will do mate won't be for a little while yet what size motor are these designed for could I fit a 250 yamaha motorbike engine on the rear mount section
I’ve used 500 and 525 singles and a 600cc four cylinder. Other builders have used snowmobile engines and bigger 4 cylinders. The chassis is designed to take a wide variety of engines. And there is always the option to stretch it a little for more room.
I am glad to see the content of your plans. I plan on beginning a cart build in the spring and I want to be as prepared as possible before beginning. I have a Rogue Fab bender, notcher, and mandrel attachment . This will make my learning curve quicker, I believe. Thanks for such a great effort and offering.
Yours is going to come out so awesome. Get it done before october so you can come to NC to race at mini mayhem!
@@KJRaycing I'll make every effort. Thanks.
I'm in NC where is mini mayhem held?
@@KJRaycing
Cant wait to start this project acquiring tools now.
You are really going to enjoy it!
Solid plans!
Thank you!
Cool Build! I’m going to build this with my new tools and materials I just ordered. I’m pretty young and inexperienced so if there is anyway I can post questions please let me know.
Thanks I'm planning to buy the plans within the next month
👍
I like your videos bro, this is exactly what I was looking for! Thanks man
I’m really glad. I was waiting for a series like this for maybe 5 years. No one did it so I thought I would take a crack at it.
Hi, kJ, thanks very much for that video, keep them coming! I’m super keen to buy the plans, but I’ve been talking to my local club and they said I can race the kart in events if it complies with the safety schedule for roll cages here in NZ. So I don’t know if it’s classified info or not, but would it be possible for you to tell me what diameter tubing and wall thickness for the main roll cage?
Thank you very much! The answer to your question is in the video you just watched 😉. I follow the NEZ crosskart technical rulebook to build this. Which I believe is what they use in kiwi land. Maybe I’ll get a chance to see your build this fall. Keep in touch.
This will be my summer project after just finishing a hand built quad for my nephew now it's time for my toy! Ty for being so straight forward and no nonsense . What would u recommend 600cc or 1000cc ?
Glad to hear it! I’m a pretty straightforward guy, I hope I don’t offend anyone... i personally love the atv engines. They have plenty of grunt and reverse! Engine choice definitely depends on what you do with it and where you ride. Most trails and offroad areas don’t need a machine that will do 50mph in first gear, but if you are out west or have access to some open areas the sky is the limit!
@@KJRaycing I'm in the great state so plenty of area to ride but I never thought about reverse on such machine defiantly something to think about appropriate you 2 cents ty.
Hi KJ, I love your videos. I've been following you for a while. I'm thinking of using the sierra rx3 frame as a guide. Are your plans modifiable?
Thank you, I really appreciate that! The plans include instructions on how to “stretch” the frame if you are after a little more room in the cockpit. I stretched the chassis 3” on the budget build to show a direct example of how to do it, you can check out that series for more details.
I am highly interested and already purchased the spider cart DIY plans. But looking for something more like your build. The only bummer part is using a donor ATV engine I rather just get something ready to go. Are there any ideas that would use a motor from Tilotson. Even if its not as beefy as your beasts you make?
Check out the channel. Just put a harbor freight predator in one with a solid axle. It is an absolute riot so far!
I would like to know if your plans have the trailing arm link suspension. If the plans include that set up I would like to purchase the plans to see if i can incorporate that suspension, when I rebuild the drive line on my buggy. Your karts have almost the same wheel base as mine 77".
The VF-2 two seater has the trailing arm suspension and a arms included. The VF-1 single seat has just the a arms in the plans. I can tell you that a arms are more adjustable and more forgiving in nearly every way. Best of luck!
hey KJ so I'm in a pickle. I have a klx 140 and its a bike my dad gave me. I've been wanting to build one of these for a while now but I don't know if I have enough money to do so. My dad passed from covid November 7 of last year and the bike is pretty special to me. I've been thinking about selling it so I can build this but also I want to keep it because vie been riding since third grade. We got 5 acers of land that we are gonna put a new house on it and there probably wont be enough room for jumps because my sister has a horse. I just want to know if 5-5500 is enough and if i should sell it or not. Thanks for your time.
Nice vid. I did a little research on dom tubing and DOM tubing is not seamless tubing. People mistake it for seamless it is not. Dom tubing is erw that is cold finished over a mandrel for precise size and it makes the pipe more stiff. They are both welded pipe one is just drawn over mandrel. And for building a crosskart both will work perfectly fine. The other is just considered a premium Material. If you are worried about the weld splitting... they are both welded the same same strength of weld. People that don't have access to dom tubing or it costs a lot to ship you don't have to use dom erw will be plenty strong
Thank you 👍. The simple fact that most sanctioned racing does not allow erw made me go for the dom. But in the end it is totally the builders choice. You could say “well an axle is just plain metal that’s been hardened to make it stronger, but it’s not really better, either will work perfectly fine.” But that doesn’t sound right either. Safety needs to be number one when building something like this.
I don't think that's what he was saying. They both start out the same strength, but with the D.O.M. process adds strength and uniformity. I think he means that the ERW is fine for a non-competitive buggy strength wise.
Where do you buy your metal ? Local supplier ? I have no one close besides a scrap yard or two and thier metal is always warped. Love the work !
I use metal supermarkets. The guys at my local shop are awesome. Mileage may vary though.
Thank you so much for replying even on a video that's over a year old ! I will look them up !
I just saw the video for builders, where you talk about the dimensions, as someone who bought the plans, I would really like to have some sort of dimensions, since i'm trying to re-create the plans, but in metric, is there a way you could help in this case?
If you bought the plans you can literally take all of the lengths of tubing and convert it. Same as i do with metric numbers. It should actually be pretty simple, and the way it is designed would actually be really easy for the crossmembers and such.
1" = 2.54cm
@@jameswellsiii7077 Thank you James, I know how to convert inches to centimeters, that's not the problem, but as you convert, it's not always accurate enough
I am excited to Start this but first I must know if this VF Frame will work with my 14' 600RR motor? It's about 116hp I believe or around. So do you think it will fit?
I’m excited for another one to be built too! It will definitely fit. I have a 600cc in one of them and a 1200cc in another one.
@@KJRaycing that is freaking SWEET! I showed my dad this and it's the best outcome for our Redtitle Bike now I used to street/track
Good day i am from South Africa will the plans be still ok when i convert all the measurements to millimeters
Yes. It has been done before with little difficulty 👍
Hi there, I'm trying to draw the full design in 3D cause I want to figure out some things before starting to build (suspension, direction, pedalboard). Could you tell me how can I do to traduce the bending information (shop instructions) that are related to your specific bender, to the 3D coordenates that allows me to use any bender?
Im from Argentina, we dont have the same market availability.
Tks!
The CLR is listed in the plans, the frame is already set up to accept all the things you are trying to do. Get a bender with a 4.5-5.5” clr and start building. You’ll see there is nothing that needs tweaked 👍
@@KJRaycing what do you mean with "CLR"?
o man i would love to build one of these but, living in south africa the converting currency the plans are about the same price as the metal i would use......
What engine can be used? What if i want to use a 2018 honda cbr1000rr engine, will it work?
As you can see by the channel and by the subscriber builds, there hasn’t been an engine that didn’t work. But so you know, 1000cc’s in this one of these comparable to 1100hp in a mustang…
Is there a metric version of these plans ?
I’ve put as many metric measurements as I can in the plans. There are online converters for the rest.
wiyh the exchange rate its a lot of money but i love this buggy and want to build myself one for sure im 54 the quad is getting a bit hard now
Sorry about that, I wish I could adjust the price for regions but I can’t.
Do you have CAD files available in order to have the cuts & bends made on CNC machines?
I’m sorry the cad files are not available, they are over two years of work. On the plans are the xyz’s for the individual pieces and the notches have locations, angles and offsets. There has been an engineering firm working on the plans for over two months to come up with a kit. I’m going to look locally starting next week.
@@KJRaycing PS. I am in South Africa.
@@KJRaycing in a nutshell, I would be interested in signing a contract with you, where I pay you royalties for every frame I sell.
I am in South Africa, so I will not have an impact on your business in USA.
I'd like to work with you, rather than go buy a CAD design from someone else.
Please contact me via email and we can discuss options and what would benefit us both.
Kind regards
Stefan
@@KJRaycing has there been any further info on a possible kit? I'd love to be able to buy a flat pack kit since I don't have a big enough garage space for storing tube and bending equipment while also assembling a frame sadly.
How long does it take to build one of these roughly?
Hard to say. The one I built for the series last year was driving after 3 or 4 months, but half of my time was spent filming and editing so I probably could have done it in about half the time. And I have a full time job on top of all that. Chassis can be made in a weekend and it depends on how you outfit it and your level of experience for time.
Does it matter what type of DOM tubing? 1018, 1020, 1036
Doesn’t matter. I think I use 1020.
Thats cool. But what about metric system? MM not Inch :)
40mm is 1.57”, 30mm is 1.18”. You can still use the plans and find the nearest diameter tubing. That’s what I did with the technical rules I used.
@@KJRaycing Thanks!
I can't seem to open up the file can you help.
It is a zip file that contains pdf’s. You just double click it to extract the files.

How much did this cost in total to build?
All depends on how you want to outfit it. But this may give you a good idea of what to expect and how to plan.

BJR EST CE QUE VOS PLANS SERONT EN FRANçAIS CORDIALEMENT JEREMIE
is there any wya possible i can pay and have the frame shipped 😂😢
Money can buy you anything, but you don’t want to pay it 😉. YOU can build this 👍
Dommage les plans sont que en anglais et aucun en français.
PayPal scammed me and a buddy. I'll never use it ever again.
Paypal didn’t scam you, someone used Paypal to scam you. I totally understand though. When you get burned by the internet it can leave some serious scars. I’ve used Paypal for over 20 years with no issues at all. They’ve even got me refunds from sellers who were absolutely bogus.
i know i probably wont get this but i do not live in america neither do i have a credit card so if its possible can you pleasee!! email me the plans for free i know i might not get it but i beg please and thank you
Absolute beginner here. These plans look amazingly useful, but just a couple questions before I buy. I want to start research now, but won't start the actual build for a couple of years. If you update these plans in the meantime, is the latest version usually available free/cheap to purchasers, or would I be better off waiting until I'm about to start to buy the latest version? And, I'm trying to figure out everywhere I'd be able to drive mine. Can you tell me the overall width w/ the standard tires? Wondering if it would fit within the 50" width limit for ATV trails on BLM land. Thanks so much!
www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd475595.pdf
When I update the plans notification is sent to all of the plan holders with info about the update so you can decide whether you need it or not. The can be built 50” wide but you are going to lose some suspension travel. Best bet is to look for privately owned off road parks. There are a lot more than you think.
