- APTV correspondent Nick Major caught up with Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills at Warped Tour for a in-depth chat.
The two discussed why the horror genre has had such an influence on the band, what it was like writing story driven songs on their latest album 'Every Trick In The Book' and more -- like the time Spencer met legendary horror filmmaker Wes Craven.
Stay tuned for more on these topics and a lot more.

Spencer seems like a cool dude. Love their music, very underrated band.
He's really chill. :')
I got his autograph
HOW IS HIS VOICE SO SOFT OMG I WANNA CRY HE'S SO AMAZING
i remember seeing INK back in 2009 or 2010 at some super sketchy gig that took place in a random school's auditorium. i was only there for my friend and she had me stand in front with her legit right in Spencer's face, he looked straight at me and noticed i wasn't really into it so he shoved me into the pit😂😂😂 that was the night i finally came out of my comfort zone and also the night i almost died lmfao
Thats a great story!!
His voice is so calm
And then listen to Communion Of The Cursed... xD lmao it's like he screams like a demon and talks like an angel.
Volbeat Addictionz I love that song so much. I want to see and meet INK so badly
Kayleigh Turner i see them next Tuesday
You haven't heard a demon scream until you hear Dan Watson from Enterprise Earth OR Joe Sinclair from She Must Burn.
For some reason the amount of bracelets is unsettling.
Spencer is my favorite human
Never realized how articulate and generally well-spoken Spencer is. That was a solid interview, good stuff.
The comments requested Spencer and we got Spencer lol. Props to Nick and AP for that.
i just started listening to INK recently, and it amazes me how soft-spoken Spencer is. he seems so calm and laid back. it makes me wonder where the energy he has on stage comes from.
I love this band so much it hurts
I'm acually getting "don't throw your life away reaching for yesterday" tattooed on my arm this summer
metalhead panda have you gotten it yet?
yes i did and it looks amazing
spencer should do ASMR lmao
YO HE SERIOUSLY SHOULD!!!!
Basking In The Ambiance what is asmr?
Yesssss
his voice is so different from his singing/screaming voice I loVE IT
I think if they did an album based off horror movie or something Along those lines would be really sweet. I can't wait for the future of this band and whatever they do with the album.
Forever Dark224 they are
Two years later and they're making an album based around horror movies. You totally told the future dude lol. I cant wait for the album!!
you were right lmao
well do i have some good news for you...
It slaps so far Mr. Futureman
Holy attractive
😂😂
he's even better in person
+Tyler Eastburn I believe it. I could've seen them at warped but I was watching a different band.
JENTONIC bummer. They put on a great show and he signed my map
+Tyler Eastburn you love bragging, don't you?
Love the interview. Sometimes I wish Nick wouldn't interrupt and just let people finish their thoughts though.
NOTED. I just get really excited and into the chats as they're happening, haha. I appreciate the feedback (I really do!!) and am glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
Stay tuned for a lot more interviews!!
- Nick
+Alternative Press your interviews are always fun to watch :)
Thanks for being a AP Consultant
You look so natural on camera :)
+Alternative Press How fucking long does it take you to put on all those bracelets?
+Salvy Ballinas I don't think he takes them off xD
i feel like he could totally be a litterature teacher, am i the only one? having some good stories to read for once plus a super attractive teacher as well would certainly help me a lot lol
i love this band and this guy so much, they are amazingly good live. i saw them this november in montreal, we were about 150 people at the gig, very intimate and chill. easily one of my favorite shows ever, plus i met spencer after. we had a small chat, got a selfie with him as well as a signed poster. he is really cool to talk to, very humble. such a nice guy, gotta love him!!!
Jess Grenier literature *
I'm loving these long in-depth interviews!
So cool how this interview was the foundation of The Silver Scream 1&2! He worked with Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Fish, Senses Fail, and Finch!
Ayyeee I was backstage for NC!!! love this band great interview as always!!!
met Spencer at warped last year and he was the sweetest person ever omg
I'm a MIW fan and checked this interview out on a whim after seeing Spencer sing "Abigail" with them at my Warped date...definitely going to check these guys out! The fact that they take their inspirations from books and musicals I love as well as being a heavier band definitely garners a try...awesome interview!
I got to talk to spencer after warped tour this year. It was amazing
jessica wright lucky
I got a picture with him but the short one minute with him was incredibly awkward so i have to meet him again haha
Oddly enough, I could listen to a digital book for hours with him reading it lol
I was one of those two thousand people in NC this year. I had never heard of Ice Nine Kills before that, but I'm so glad I was there to watch them.
i love this interview im starting to get into ice nine kills and i was hoping there was an interview!!
Nick and Bryce great job. I honestly love this interview the best to hear the backstory behind the album was pretty cool !!
this interview is really informative. Love INK, and I'm glad I finally got to see them live a few weeks ago ❤
so happy I got to see them live a few weeks ago, they are such an incredible band and I have so much love for them
i could listen to spencer talk for hours
You should do an interview like this with James Harrison (Oceans Ate Alaska) and another one with Alex Koehler (Chelsea Grin) please. :) These interviews are the best, and you're getting all the bands I want to see. Loved the Motionless In White, The Word Alive, Crown The Empire, and Ice Nine Kills interviews.
Yes oaa
I just wanted to watch an earlier interview now I'm crying all over again from Wes craven dying.
I was at that North Carolina show 2 years ago. I was sick with a sore throat, but I love INK so I screamed every word to every song you played. Was just amazing
I was at that North Carolina show and their set was easily the best of the day! :)
love this interview because I love Spencer and Ice Nine Kills! Every Trick in the Book is the best album, bar none!!
Agree
Loving all of the wristbands on your wrist Nick. 😂😂😁 also fantastic interview xxx
I've met Spencer and he is such a sweet guy 💕 I was nervous to meet him but he's actually so nice..
This is really awesome. I really wish I could go to Warped Tour in Albuquerque 💔😩 but I don't have any tickets
i love him
I love ice nine so much
Love spencer. I first saw them at southbysowhat! In 2013 and have loved them since.
saw them July 24th at Minneapolis, thought they were pretty awesome and I became a fan after that
Abigail is my favorite MIW song too. Spencers a cool dude
Haha this reminds me of that time about two days ago when Spencer himself signed my map at Warped
I can't believe I saw such an astonishing human being and just stood in shock in front of him while he signed my poster. It's like I forgot how to speak.
My love
I'm not gay but if I were, I would gay for Spencer!
Every trick in the book is iconic to
Me
YESSSS😀😍❤❤❤
What a good interview. Most interviewers are so awkward.
💕💕💕
what was the song in the first clip ? where he had a green shirt?
Me Myself & Hyde
tbh i love the burning ep
Ay they referenced fleshgod apocalypse
Holy moly look at the interviewers brackets it's like half of his arm
I like this interviewer lol hes good at asking questions and keeping it flowing, u see some guys that have like flash cards of what to ask and it seems very frigid.
I thought the interviewer had a cast at first glance dawg
I would love to see a musical based on Every Trick in the Book, and having written a fair share of my own musicals based on concept albums I'd love to give that a shot... Also, Spider-Man lasted for 3 years, not 20 performances or less than American Psycho... just saying
Why do you need that many bracelets
His bracelet game is dangerously close to 11 year old me
He sounds like brendon urie from panic! at the disco
Broooo.
How many fucking braclets? Lol.
why does spencer's voice always sound like he has a lot of phlegm or that something is blocking his throat
Screaming for a living. It'll still mess up your voice even if you do it right
i think that dude needs more stupid bracelets
I'm sure the interviewer is super cool and all but...maybe dont interrupt so much.
