I think you should keep the greyscale baby and breed them when they're older: those are some wicked genetics and I want to know if the location of his genes render his morphology dominant, codominant, recessive, or some crazy mixture! Alternatively, he might just be a scaleless baby with lots of scale RNA production so who knows! Boop his snoot with kisses for me!

I've been watching your hatching videos this summer while preparing a Genetics exam. The exam was today and I almost used snake mutations as examples. Luckily I kept to the simple flowers and peas and flies. But you helped me study!

Baby snakes need time to fully absorb the yolk inside the egg with them, it helps them survive until they learn how to eat -- so they're not really "done" until they come out of the egg on their own, even if they are alive. If they don't come out it's usually a sign of big problems, and most breeders agree cutting them out entirely does more harm than good.

Both males could be dads. A clutch of snake eggs is much like that of a litter of kittens, if the female breeds with multiple males each of the offspring could have a different dad. So it is entirely possible that both Buck and the Het. Male are fathers to different noodles in this one clutch.

Just an evolutionary theory: as the scaleless snakes are a genetic morph that is less durable in the wild, this would make them weaker by natural selection. So it might be something in their genetics that doesnt allow them to form a sharp enough egg tooth. I'm not a snake girl, but I love lil danger noodles so thought I'd chime in!
Maybe since there head usually has no scales on their head which scales are made up of keratin, maybe the lack of keratin in the genes make a less developed egg tooth which is also made of keratin 🤔

For my tiny baby snakes I took toilet paper roles and either stapled or glued shut one end or folded them in the middle so they could crawl through/ hide in the tight spaces.
have you considered cardboard rolls like for toilet paper and the like? when i had mice it was a fairly easily replaceable thing and they enjoyed chewing on it
The normal scaled babies are so pretty! They have a nice rich brown color and beautiful greys in between. Such beautiful babies, I hope they enjoy their new homes. The scaleless are really cool too, I just think that the scaled babies are just as beautiful
I don't think I'll ever own a snake personally because of their diet and my extreme love for my pet mice BUT I absolutely love them and love learning about them. This channel is amazing and always makes me smile with hatchings and is so educational!
Because you should let the baby come out of its own. If it comes out too early, it might've not fully developed and could possibly die. I suppose you've watched "Reptile World" .-.

I'm just curious what they mean, finding the phrasing confusing isn't accusing anyone of anything. * eye roll * Even if the pre-hatchling was culled, it happens, it's a part of breeding, they've talked about it in other videos. When it has to be done it's the humane thing to do. But again, the phrasing I found very vague.

I wonder, since the unpipped eggs were mostly scaleless and you were saying the scaled babies tend to come out first, could the scaleless gene affect the egg tooth development? I really love the look of the semi-scaleless baby, they're really unique looking. The normal scaled babies are so pretty! They have a nice rich brown color and beautiful greys in between. Such beautiful babies, I hope they enjoy their new homes. The scaleless are really cool too, I just think that the scaled babies are just as beautiful

I don't think I'll ever own a snake personally because of their diet and my extreme love for my pet mice BUT I absolutely love them and love learning about them. This channel is amazing and always makes me smile with hatchings and is so educational!

Because you should let the baby come out of its own. If it comes out too early, it might've not fully developed and could possibly die. I suppose you've watched "Reptile World" .-.
I was wondering the same thing, never came out- does that mean he died before he came out? The phrasing I found odd, since he was clearly moving and responding.

Even if the pre-hatchling was culled, it happens, it's a part of breeding, they've talked about it in other videos. When it has to be done it's the humane thing to do.

The greyscale looking kinda scaleless baby looks like a calico! he is my favorite ! I also really love Ed's favorite, the black scales with the orange skin is great.

Just curious... Might be a dumb question but could you not have helped hatch the baby snake in the moldy egg? I thought in some cases it was okay to intervene to save the baby...?
@Howell About No I see. I just thought maybe you could give the snake a 2nd chance because I've seen people help hatch chicken eggs in extreme cases...
I wonder, since the unpipped eggs were mostly scaleless and you were saying the scaled babies tend to come out first, could the scaleless gene affect the egg tooth development?
I really love the look of the semi-scaleless baby, they're really unique looking. I need to handle a scaleless snake one day, just to see what they feel like, but my local reptile shop only ever seems to get hets.
