@@GaryKetchum808 I think there's lots of benefits a full EV Wrangler could have over a PHEV that would appeal to buyers. A bigger, underfloor battery could make it more stable on the highway and decrease the likelihood of a rollover. The floor could be flat, removing the big transmission tunnel hump characteristic of Wranglers. Without an engine you could instead use that space for storage. One last thing to consider about range is that despite the current struggles with finding a place to charge, road tripping in a Wrangler EV would probably be much cheaper than doing the same in a PHEV, which surely should remove some of the sting of having to wait a few more minutes to top up. The Wrangler is a thirsty vehicle. I think Tesla has shown that road tripping in an EV is very possible, and that with time, the third party charging infrastructure will catch up.
I think PHEV will help people transition to electric. Imagine the problem when cars first began to replace horses…..and people had used horses for HUNDREDS OF GENERATIONS. The electric grid is gonna need changes, more fast charging stations, and better security (hackers and solar flare events)
@@directorjustin I think it's worth mentioning the elephant in the room. This is a Jeep not a Tesla! From 50,000 ft I imagine a decision was made to transition to electric to get with the times and that's fine. Offroading is more energy hungry, further from charge stations, and you don't have braking regen like you would slowing down going through an on-road corner. EV and offroading does not mix, but that's not to say this won't be in favor of people who dig the brand and just want to go to the mall. Lastly, that "lump of an engine" is the main show here, the GME engine is where most of the toque is coming from here (300 ft lbs of it).
@@zefzone-215 I'd argue that off roading is more energy efficient than high speed highway driving. EVs are really at their best from a dead stop to a slow roll. That's when you get the most torque. A full EV Wrangler would have a bigger battery which means more torque for low speed crawling. Also, I see no reason why you couldn't have hill descent control with regenerative braking.
This feels like a compliance car to bring down fleet MPG and meet regulation targets. That’s why they didn’t even bother with marketing it. Jeep is not serious about electrification yet.
I have a 2018 JLUR & it’s paid-off, so very hard for me to justify the 4xE economically. I still like where the tech is going in that in-town errands can be done w/o gas.
I love how none of these car reviews ever question the reliability of the vehicles now the jeep we know it’s absolutely reliable and it has no turbos the Ford however does and Ford is built many questionable engines in the last 20 years, and yet we’re supposed to consider this a real review And just eliminate the Question of reliability and cost, which every jeep owner knows is zero first 200,000 miles I guarantee at the Ford will not be zero
I just posted that this Jeep 4XE will destroy wrangler reputation Turbo combined with hybrid is nothing but trouble waiting to happen, I don’t care what anyone claims in terms of reliability.
Now that is really cool and makes total sense. The US cities are full of big trucks and 4X4 - huge engines and big emissions. This is a solution. While in town- use electric - clean air. When you want to have fun off road - go hybrid. Best of both worlds.
Not at all instant torque. Takes forever to spool. Shit motor, we replace at least 1 a week at my dodge shop. Turbo is trash too. Trash fuel economy and not fast on the highway. Rubicon have to be some of the most poorly made modern car ever. Enjoy your water leaks and shit highway ride my man!
That would've cut into the ICE systems, and put on some weight. Not to say it isn't a bad idea though. Personally I would be all for it as an upgrade like "4X4E" or something along those lines.

Sick Jeep! I’m really excited to see a hybrid powertrain in a proper Jeep! Excellent review as always!!!
Hey Yuri you forget something at the rear wheel 8:19
Next: jeep rubicon 392? 👀👀
how many different types of jeeps is FCA releasing? there is a pickup jeep, a hellcat jeep, an electric jeep, a 2 door jeep, and a convertible jeep.
sorry i forgot the diesel one too
I feel like owning this would just make me wish it was fully electric. The small battery and big lump of an engine is really holding it back.
I think the PHEV is the best of both worlds. You can’t really road trip in an EV (yet). Love the torque of an EV, but I need the range.
I wouldn’t sit on the seats above battery. I’ve decided on diesel now.
This feels like a compliance car to bring down fleet MPG and meet regulation targets. That’s why they didn’t even bother with marketing it. Jeep is not serious about electrification yet.
4 banger with a hybrid? What is this? A Prius?
A Chrysler hybrid drivetrain product? Oh man, anyone buying this is brave.
Not enough people realize this and it's so unfortunate
Its amazing! Best driving wrangler there is! I love it!! Test drive one!!
10,000 miles and no problems yet.
Why do u say that Incas considering this jeep. Never had a Jeep before I’m pretty new to it
@@AC-ly6tg cause he’s and idiot lol
I don't think you guys were the only ones who missed the marketing. This is the first I've heard of this Jeep, still pretty cool tho.
"we're not marketing" oh Yuri...you sweet summer child...lmao
Lol we don’t get PAID but ya we’re def not hard hitting journalists here
The uconnect 8 thingy must be their measure in size of the screen
I have a 2018 JLUR & it’s paid-off, so very hard for me to justify the 4xE economically. I still like where the tech is going in that in-town errands can be done w/o gas.
Is no one pointing out the location of the charging port and the fact it is the first part to get dented on most jeeps?
Were you guys driving in Oakville area? or looks like you guys were in Hamilton.
It's Sunday Morning here.🇧🇩
I honestly didn't know these excited until I seen one plugged in at my job
The way they started that hood shot with the "BICON" of "Rubicon", for a second I thought Jeep had made a Bitcoin model.
Give it a few months andthey will
i like it only thing i would like to see is them figure out how to control all the noise from the electrical components
Love the timing it's Lunch time here! Heheh 🏁🇵🇭
Now that is really cool and makes total sense. The US cities are full of big trucks and 4X4 - huge engines and big emissions. This is a solution. While in town- use electric - clean air. When you want to have fun off road - go hybrid. Best of both worlds.
After watching this man I’m glad I got my ecodiesel rubicon LOL instant torque and also fast in the highway
Are you joking? The diesel is the slowest engine option on the new Wranglers for 0-60.
It be cool if you guys could do a comparison video with the new Audi RS7 with the BMW M8, Hellcat, AMG C63S, or the Cadillac CT6 BlackWing
It's a shame you didn't just drive a normal 2l jeep. One of the best cars I've driven. So much power and so smooth!
8am here in Saudi Arabia... great way to start my day :)
I had a 07 Dodge Nitro R/T in Electric Blue.. I loved it.
They should have made a range extender with motors to each wheel and have twice the power and way more range per tank.
That would've cut into the ICE systems, and put on some weight. Not to say it isn't a bad idea though. Personally I would be all for it as an upgrade like "4X4E" or something along those lines.
@@Raiders1917 the way its been done these days with a motor between the engine and transmission could provide way more power without the need to complicate things up that much.
