I was talking about Canoe just today. I rediscovered it only a few months ago and was delighted that is so much more sophisticated than I expected. My cousin wore it in the late 1960’s but ignored it in favor of my two high school favorites, English Leather and British Sterling. But back to Canoe, it’s really a find and I hope it gets more attention in the future. Cheers!
I wore Canoe from 1961 to 1966. Loved it. My nephew asked me last week if I still used it. Out of curiosity, I bought a bottle today. I was very disappointed. It is not the same . It is weak and probably watered down . I recall the original was made in France. The new one is not. I Googled it and found out the formula was changed in 1990. After wearing it for 3 hours, I could hardly smell it on my arm anymore. I threw it away. I was hoping to relive some of my New Jersey life styles by using it again. A scent from the past can bring back so many memories.
You probably bought the aftershave. I have the EDT and this stuff is STRONG and will last on my skin and clothes over 12 hours. I often wear it before bed and during the day will use it as a scent base with Brut edt on top. I get a lot of compliments because these smell great and and strong.
Wow Caldor, that brings back memories lol. Canoe is awesome, I remember stealing sprays from my dad's bottle when I was a kid and all the girls in the third grade thought I was the best smelling guy in class 😂
I'm pretty sure that Canoe has been around since the 1930s.... I remember that my aunt and uncle would give me a gift set every year for Christmas. I was always reminded that "your uncle used to always wear this"... That was in the late Seventies and Eighties.
I remember hearing a podcast about a family who were camping in the US back in the 80's and were attacked by a wild animal. This is ridiculous, but investigators at the time believed that the animal may have been drawn into the attack because of the aftershave that the dad was wearing. It was Canoe! I kid you not 😄 Thing is, I can't remember the animal involved. It was either a mountain lion or a 'dogman', so take that with a pinch of salt. Wish I could find a link. Frickin lol!
Watched this review and bought the Big Splash Bottle. Man this stuff is awesome. I appreciate you doing the reviews of the classics. Great channel dude.
I’d love to see you review some fragrances from Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements. They have 10 different Bay Rums, and they make homages to classics like Pinaud Clubman, Old Spice, Brut, Seaforth Spiced, Burma Shave, Barbasol, etc- that all smell better than the originals. Their best original fragrance is called Speak Easy. 🤙
@@dsbiddle First thing I would say is make a list of any of the fragrances you’re interested in and order the sample. There were a handful of scents I thought I would love that I didn’t click with, the samples saved me from buying a bottle of something I didn’t like. Their version of Pinaud Clubman is far better than the original, I actually can’t stand the original now that I’ve worn Clubguy. Theirs is softer and cleaner. The same holds true for some of their other homages. Et Tu is way better than Brut, Cold Spices outclasses Old Spice. I’ve never tried the original Seaford Spices but Diver Down is one of my favourite scents now. I’ve tried other homages and originals from them so if you have more questions let me know. 🤙
@@ScentsOfSouthJersey Would still love for you to try some fragrances from Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements, Speak Easy is their best original, and I see they’ve added homages to Aqua di Parma Colognia (Amalfi 3K), as well as 4711 (11235). I still think you’d dig Et Tu, Cold Spices, and Diver Down. 🤙
@@gx12 hey, that’s awesome! I think I’m gonna blind buy their version of clubman and try some samples. I appreciate you taking the time to help me out - thank you, brother!
Cool story about Canoe Sport. In the late 90s on Christmas I was at a friends house and he got a bottle of Canoe Spoort After Shave Gel. He was mad that he got it, and said he waas gonna throw it away if I did not want it. So II took it. Never usee dit, and a few years later found it stored away when I was needing some after shave. Smelled it and did noit like the smell, but it was all I had to use. Wore it and was getting cocmpliments left and right. It is the only thing i havve ever worn that always gets compliments. To me it smells average, but people seem to love the smell. It worked great though, and makde my skin feell great. So years ago I started looking for anoother bottle, and found some on ebay, but they wanted a fortune for it. I have found it on ebay a few times, but every time it is super expennsive. Right now there is none available anywhere, and it is so rare there is not even a picture of it online.
This one is pure old school magic. Totally beast mode. On my skin it lasts for about 18-24 hours. Incredible. Also a favourite with Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley.
I wore Canoe when I was a 12 year old kid back in the 1980s and loved it. It was such a change from the heavy musks that were everywhere. Recently I re-visited it and found that the scent I remember was only found in vintage formulas. The current formula is too watered down for me. Luckily there are plenty of vintage bottles out there for sale. I recommend one of those if you can get one.
I'm Glad that you've chosen to look at this one. it's one of those Curiosities that I haven't got around to Buying. I was interested in it just because it's been around for so long.
Kelan, I have that very large splash bottle, but in an aftershave, and instead of the white painted on bottle look, it has the blue paper sticker. Curious, I splashed a bit on one wrist, and my Pinaud Clubman on the other wrist. I suppose my sense of smell isn't that well defined so as to pick up different things, as do so many others, like yourself, seem to be able to, because they smell so similar (VERY slightly different) that I'm unable to say which I prefer, BUT I find the Pinaud Clubman projects more, and lasts longer. Also, I've always found the Clubman aftershaves (I have many different Clubman aftershaves) to project and last forever! Some of my EDTs in other fragrances don't last this long. Sidenote, Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve has a very close resemblance to Aramis, to my nose. Enjoying your reviews!
Oh speaking of kouros I just got my first bottle of the New Formulation. I think it smells pretty Good and other people seem to like it too. it's Got a bit of the Green from Paco Raban Por Homme and it's clean and Smokey. pretty interesting Fragrance.
I felt the same way about Canoe when I first got it but it grows on you man. Classic barbershop talc scent. I wear it to work a lot. Just curious if you prefer Canoe to Paul Sebastian? I think I like them equally. Both great value and longevity.
This is the first cologne I bought. I love that barber shop type of smell. I misplaced the bottle of JEAN PAUL GAULTIER that Macy's gave to me for playing a show for them at their store. I like this one more than that and its almost a quarter of the price.
This is a fantastic fragrance I only get about 4 1/2 hours out of it however. The one great thing about this fragrance is you can pay about $25-$30 for about 8 ounces of the stuf, the great aspect of that, you get a wonderful splash bottle out of it. Whenever I finish a bottle, I usually keep the splash bottle and reuse it for some other aftershave.
I tried it as an after shower every day, not particularly going anywhere kind of fragrance. Its ok, but I do pick up a noticeable synthetic smell that I do not recall from my youth.

Canoe was our scent in school back many years ago when there were lots of inexpensive colognes but as a kid with Canoe you were in the top percentile
Loved this scent since I was 12 in the early 70s. My teacher crush wore this. I'd bought it for every significant other for Christmas.

Started my fragrance journey during my mid-teens. I was rockin' Canoe, Santa Fe, Polo Green, English Leather, Stetson.
Polo green is amazing
I still like English Leather and Stetson.

Pinaud just smells rougher, the talc powder smell in canoe is more toned down but yes they are very similar

The current form is great I like it and it’s almost more wearable than the insanity strong vintage while still being beast mode by todays standards
Legend has it this was a big hit amongst the ladies at the Green Grove Retirement Home.
Everyone except Livia lol 😂

Great review and I enjoyed it and I like this fragrance and I give it a 9 out of 10 and have a blessed day

My first cologne at 14 years old in 1996, straight from my mom as a gift from Rite Aid. Will always be a staple for me.

PS has got a bit more going on I think, coincidentally wearing PS right now lol, so it’s a hard Choice, I think Canoe is easier to wear though
