I don't like trophy hunting, I don't think it's a sport or for conservation purposes. Those poor animals are dying for money only. I firmly believe that their lives are priceless and can't be replaced. Another insightful video, much appreciated for helping us understand complicated situations better.
@@mariesia0525 OK so I am 13 years old and I grew up hunting all my life yes there is money involved but also remember this where does that money go? It goes back into conservation such as buying certain objects like food or salt blocks. In my opinion canned lion hunting is one of the worsts things around and I do not support it. Also when hunting the meat goes to the community and everything gets used besides the gut content. Third thing is what happens if people don't shoot animals the populations are go crazy and then the food resources will run out and then those poor animals will starv to death and when using a rifle/bow most of the time it is a quick ethical kill. Please don't take offense to this but lions also need to be shot now and then for predator control and same thing to many lions not enough food and then they starv to death. Every time I go hunting it WILL ALWAYS BE A WALK AND STALK=it gives the animals a fair chance to get away and so it is always fair to the animal besides the canned hunta those are terrible. And again Kevin it does involve animal control and so and that's all I have to say.
Massive supporter of you and work you doing❤️I love Big cats and they mean the world to me, which I cant imagine without lions and other big cats. I will always support you and hopefully one day I can come to SA and see your place myself. I learnt so much about behaviour of a lion from your videos. They missed all of this at school, very knowledgeable videos and worth every minute of my time.🦁
Kev, You are so compassionate and have dedicated your whole life to protect these precious animals and for someone to question that, is just uncalled for. I really appreciate that you took the time to respond because I selfishly love to see you and the girls any chance I can, but you dont need to explain your decisions. If these people would really research what you have done over the last 20 years for these precious babies, they would understand your decisions about how to give a captured animal the best life they can have!!! I cant Express enough how much I appreciate you and your team and of course, your wife for giving your lives to these lions. Much love..lynn🦁
You give so much Kevin. People like you and others like Steve Irwin are the reason I learned about how truly special these animals are regardless if they’re land or water animals they belong in this world and they deserve to be protected and appreciated. Thank you so much Kevin for all the hard work you put in daily to take care of these beauties

Very complex and a really balanced presentation of the reasons for and against. Thank you, Kev. For everything you do, but for this sophisticated explanation right now, especially.

It’s a very sad situation and with great disadvantage to the animal.. this video is very informative and honest... I’ve stared into the most beautiful eyes of a lion at a zoo. I felt very sad for this boy. It was like his soul was gone. He was only existing. Animals have the God given right to be free to live their life. I felt a connection. I had to be involved and advocate for their welfare. The most beautiful eyes and souls... ♥️

With the experience and wisdom that Kevin has concerning these animals, who gives anyone the right to judge him? Could you do better yourself? I don't think so. He knows the risks, the cost, and the time these sweethearts deserve. Like he said, it is a lifetime commitment...most people don't even care for a dog or cat properly, so the negative comments are not welcomed here.🙀🙀

Kevin is an inspiration to all those whom feel that animals have every right to live in a world where their lives are valued, and protected. We're living in a world where life is becoming of little worth, in exchange for what some unfortunately feel is they're own entitlement to destroy and vanquish.🍁
Not exactly the same but I've seen this in my dog training career that even neutered males dogs would still fight over a female in heat, so I get the reasoning behind your decision and never once thought of it as something to do with you 'favouring' the males or being chauvinistic.

0:30 - This is how twisted and self-absorbed the world has become today that people who know Kevin can ask that question. First of all, none of you/us care about those lions like Kevin does. You should know the decisions he makes are all centered around the best possible care for the lions. To those of you calling him a chauvinist, you're shameless and disgusting. P.S.: Very interesting discussion on the trophy hunting topic. Multi-faceted.
You don't owe anyone an explanation, Kevin. The people that have been watching and supporting you for years know that you do everything possible to ensure these animals live healthy, happy lives. I wish you all the best and only wish this was the most popular UA-cam channel. You're so important I hope you understand.
Hi, I have an #AskMeg question! My question is: since you regularly move the lions around and rotate the enclosures they stay in, are the lions ever bothered by the scent of the cats that were there previously? Do they feel agitated or uncomfortable like they’re in another lions territory until they have marked their scent and established it as theirs? Or are they unbothered and is it all part of the enrichment? I love your videos and thank you for educating us on these interesting topics :)

@@VeganSemihCyprus33 Well, while you do have a point, what I consider bloodlust, the internal need to kill for trophy, machismo, or just the sake of killing for the sake of killing and calling it sport, is much older than capitalism, older than "money", whether nature or nurture is beyond my pay grade, though I suspect oft times some of each...I rent on a farm in the state of Kentucky USA, it's deer season now, I have to hear my landlord and his drunk pals blast away at the local White Tail population. Now they only go after the antlered bucks, I'm fine with hunting deer, they do need to be kept culled in these parts, some seasons more than others, what I'm certainly not fine with, is most of these bloodlusted yahoos just take the antlers, for trophies of course, and thet leave the rest to rot. To me this is unconscionable, the rub is, you see and talk to these guys, and you know they do possess a conscience, it's just limited to their own species, animals were put here for them to kill on a whim, and just because they can, or that's my best guess on the justifiable reasoning, but money has nothing to do with it, here this type of sport/tropy killing, it's traditional, not transactional...wow, putting it down like this, kinda makes it sound more disturbing to me, I need to go rub a soft cat belly now😉
@@bodaciousoasis2574 Exploitation of animals is cultural and caused by trauma. Hunters are traumatized people that cut connections with their empathy, that's trauma. And in the past we killed animals out of necessity, not for fun. The opposite is true, when people had to kill an animal, they made ceremonies because they felt guilty. They loved the nature, and they tried to cause as little harm as possible. That's why I'm a vegan, it is possible and even preferable to be vegan and healthy, so many benefits for the environment and your health. And as a side note, wild predators were hunted down to protect the livestock, and prey numbers went up, that's how they justify hunting by guns or bows. But once we go vegan, we can reintroduce the natural wild predators back into the ecosystem so they keep the animal (deer, rabbit, etc.) populations in check. Always follow your heart, it is mostly the right way.
@@VeganSemihCyprus33 yeah, but that, "once we go", that's never gonna happen, never, just sayin', reality often bites, too, and we bite our own reality, which assures it will bite us back, and so it goes, sad but true, no magic wands, unfortunately...hey though, on a more positive note, well, not exactly, but we will sooner or later, hopefully later, experience another mass extinction event, perhaps then we can get more stuff right, I mean you know, assuming we're not the number one on that list😯😉
Also I would add that females that continually go into season are at risk of pyometra, it's a life-threatening disease. Males do not have that risk. Also continually allowing a male to breed with a female increases the chances of infection because breedong is not sterile and anytime there is penetration there is a risk of bacterial infection (which could be the spur of the pyometra in the first place). This is also true of domestic dogs, captive wolves and captive african wild dogs, as well as domestic cats. It's been well documented in scientific papers studying the effects of breeding in endangered captive species.
Hey kevin!! Wow some things just need to be left untouched. Clearly this man knows his business. He cares for multiple species of animals. Has an established relationship with them. Great conversation and footage. Ty so much for knowledge. And great job Mr. Kevin.. 👍🦁

Karla Larson while you find it disgusting it costs safari hunters hundreds of thousand dollars to do these hunts whether the hunter is successful or not. That money is used for conservation. Those fees pay for the armed Park Rangers to patrol for poachers, it also pays for habitat reclamation, which in turn benefits wildlife. While I myself don’t hunt, nor would I big game hunt, I don’t dismiss those that do. Their license fees, and permit fees contribute to conservation efforts.
@@mikedee6173 Sorry but you're an idiot. Most of these hunts are illegal for a reason, and if you ever take one look at canned hunting facilities and how mistreated the animals are(often to ensure a successful hunt) them you'd know that no amount of money that might pay for conservation (which it doesn't by the way) will make up for it.

Thank you, Kevin, for being the reasoned voice and champion for all animals. You exhibit the best in humanity; integrity, ethics, love and compassion. I wish we were all as evolved.

Meg: closes her eyes "bugger off Kev I'm trying to nap"

Kevin knows his business. He's no greedy air head. He cares and applies experience with concern (care) to benefit the creatures and the environment. That's very nice!
Just saw the notification but I can't watch as I'm at work. Break can't come fast enough! 🥰
Let us know how you like the video!
When you are telling Meg and Amy and all the other Animals in your care that you love them Kev,you are telling them all, from all
of us, too :)
Well said! We All Love these magnificent creatures💛🌼
Massive supporter of you and work you doing❤️I love Big cats and they mean the world to me, which I cant imagine without lions and other big cats. I will always support you and hopefully one day I can come to SA and see your place myself. I learnt so much about behaviour of a lion from your videos. They missed all of this at school, very knowledgeable videos and worth every minute of my time.🦁
Very intelligent man , thank god for these type of people that we can trust.
Kev,
You are so compassionate and have dedicated your whole life to protect these precious animals and for someone to question that, is just uncalled for.
Meg and Amy has been my girls since they were cubs!! I just love them too pieces!!!
Your heart is wonderful Kevin! Meg looks as peaceful as a lamb😊.
10:29 😂👏🏻 that’s how meg really feels about trophy hunting. Same meg same.
The start to this video breaks my heart. Kevin looks absolutely beaten down. Keep on doing what you're doing Kevin! You're amazing.
I'm absolutely confident that Kev does what is right for those fluffy big cats, so my only concern is to have good internet connection so I can see them!
I have been in awe for a couple minutes and stopped at 8:28 seeing that the width of Meg's nose is the size of Kevin's face!
I am so in love with these Lionesses and Lions you take such good care of Kevin! God bless you!
Well done, Meg! Oh. And Kev, of course. 😂 No video you post could ever be too long. 💜
Respect to the love of Meg and Amy's life! Iv'e been around a long time and never thought a love like this is possible. As a South African i sometimes don't have much to be proud of but this makes me swell with pride. Love you and all the perfect cat's!
Meg going away as soon as you started talking about trophy hunting was priceless. 😂
Took me a while to see this one, but I'm so glad I did. Thank you for the super informative discussion of the way that trophy hunting (not canned hunting) plays a part in maintaining species and their habitats. Very complex and a really balanced presentation of the reasons for and against. Thank you, Kev. For everything you do, but for this sophisticated explanation right now, especially.
I learn an immense amount of info from you, Kevin. Thanks for freely giving us of yourself and educating us with each film. I for one truly appreciate it and the sacrifices you make on a daily basis for these precious animals.
That's what I love about you Kevin. Your morals and values are what makes you who you are. A very special human being.
I love what you're doing. You keep educating us about lions and other animals. Thank you for this. Don't give up on them. We need you!
Kevin your mission is very much respected. Thanks for your dedication to the world. Some will never know the extent of your loyalty to the cause. They may be unable to think that big.
Love how informative you are Kevin you really lay it on the table !!! I have a 7 year old and I’m teaching him to love all animals that they all play a role in our world like we do
This is a really great video. Kevin seems like a genuinely good guy who cares about animals but is also pragmatic. He clearly understands this domain better than most.
There will always be someone poking their head in just for a second, making snap judgement without knowing the full story.
Thank you Kevin for taking the time from your busy schedule to give us your insight into a very complicated matter. Your dedication to your animals is amazing. The burden of their well being is daunting but the rewards are countless. Thank you for trying to educate as many people as possible with your no-nonsense approach !
You’re a great human being doing God’s work Kevin. God bless you, your crew and your amazing animals.

I love this so much the lions are beautiful,I love what u do kevin,I love watching ur videos ur amazing what u do for them
Meg is so beautiful, and so wise. (Amy too, I'm sure!) Kevin, I love your work and your vlogs. The cats are magnificent.
I love that Meg is doing the slow blinky thing like her smaller kitty cousins do !! What a beautiful affectionate lioness 😻😻😻
I'm not gonna lie...I have wondered why the males couldnt be the ones to undergo procedures...but never once thought Kevin would be putting certain lions health above others. I obviously dont know anything when compared to Kevin, so I always knew there was a reason for what he has chose to do!
Meg's face is holding a smile through the whole interview. What a hostess!
Hunting for lions for whatever reason breaks my heart. Those trophy hunters are cowards of the worst kind. I love what you do and I'll continue to support your work and dedication to these magnificent animals.
There are some people blessed enough to have the patience, understanding and knowledge to have extremely rare relationships with animals. Thank you Kevin, for your wisdom and enthusiasm by helping us to learn.
Omg when she cuddled him when he looked at her in the eye 😍😍😍
Absolutely loved this #askMeg. Very interesting questions and answers! Thanks for speaking so openly and for giving such personal and complex answers!! Really enjoyed that. I agree with you, shooting animals should only happen for self defense and protection. Everything else seems cruel and unjustified in my eyes. Thanks for sharing!! Lots of kisses to Meg & Amy
Meg to so precious and loves her daddy ❣🌠
Your love for your family clearly comes through as does your extensive knowledge. It irks me that people that have no idea of what they are talking about would call you a chauvinist, and have the audacity to question your spaying procedures. I watched the video and nothing like that question that was asked ever crossed my mind because I see you and I trust in your obvious commitment, love, intelligence about your family and the massive amount of time and money you spend to enrich their lives. Thank you for all of your extensive efforts and the love and kindness you share, I have no doubt that these beautiful beings are happy and very well loved.
A great video Kevin, I love all your Lions but there is something about Meg and Amy. They are gorgeous. Enjoy your weekend with your fur babies. Xxx💝🦁
God bless you Kevin for caring for and advocating for your animals. I cant imagine what it takes. I had 5 dogs and the responsibility to provide the best canine life was huge. I love your videos.
This guy knows what he is talking about fair play . Will be in Pretoria in December will take a trip there
Huge, long time supporter from Atlanta.. im a small animal vet but worked with a conservation vet in Hoedspruit and saw first hand the constant battles you advocates face and I want to say thank you so much! I can’t put in words how appreciative I am
Thank you for going so much into depth on this very controversal topic and also thank you for such a long Video, really appreciate it!
I hope as many people as possible will see this, it's a great explanaition of what's going on with all the Lions in general.
Even I learned one thing or another which actually suprised me! :)
Much respect to you Kevin for the love and care you give them all..some people are stupid!! And haven't got a clue..I could never hurt a defenceless animal.. it's heartbreaking and it should be stopped.
We love you Kevin and the beautiful animals and your family we appreciate you for all heard work that you do GOD bless you forever !!!! ❤️❤️💕💕💕🥰🥰🥰🥰😘😘🥰🥰🥰🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍😍
It is amazing how Meg picks up on your emotions and frequency when you answer difficult questions. She is completely tuned into you. Kudos for Meg to get up and leave when the conversation is turns sour. Like me, I leave the table or room when politics comes up.
Meg's ears are so cute. They look so soft💖
Thank you Kevin... I’ve been advocating against canned hunting.for years... sometimes it feels like nothing has changed. Very frustrating. ♥️
I feel like Kevin would be a really good dad.
This Lioness seems so comforted by your voice tone and your body movements.I'm sure she scents you also. This lioness seems so at peace being next to you as a happy human couple together. It is a really beautiful moment.I hope GOD bless's you both
With the experience and wisdom that Kevin has concerning these animals, who gives anyone the right to judge him? Could you do better yourself? I don't think so. He knows the risks, the cost, and the time these sweethearts deserve. Like he said, it is a lifetime commitment...most people don't even care for a dog or cat properly, so the negative comments are not welcomed here.🙀🙀
Humanity is the cruelest animal on the planet. I cannot believe that canned hunting even exists. Absolutely horrific. Kevin is amazing with these lions. His relationship with them is unprecedented. Thank you for taking such wonderful care of these beautiful creatures.
I love lions I grew up watching lions I would like to see a lion in person

What kind of a system relies on psychopaths to protect wildlife? A sick and psychopathic system does that. The problem is capitalism, monetary system, any kind of wealth and power accumulation, and industrial civilization. We must get rid of these. These systems are anti-nature.

Wonderful Meg and Amy, how can anyone not love them? I`m so saddened by the terrible news on Facebook today that Amy has been diagnosed with leukemia, all my love to beautiful Amy and you Kev. I know she will be taken care of in the best possible way by you and the staff through this hard time in her life. I hope she pulls thru this, but i know the chances are slim, love to you guys and wonderful Meg of course :)) Hugs and hopes from Sweden, allthough i`ve shed some tears for Amy already.
Whoever called Kevin a chauvinist clearly hasn’t been around for a while He treats all his animals with the upmost respect and love.
Trophy and canned hunting is absolutely disgusting. Pure cowards only wanting a notch on their belt. As always much love for Meg and Amy
How extremely articulate he is in describing their habits. Nothing escapes his gaze. Kevin, you could have made a great cop. But I'm glad you do what you do. Like a Lion.Very keen eyes.you are there because God wants you there. And no one else can do what you do.God bless you.😇 L.Maximus.😎
Just stunning how you can be with these lions, Kevin. So much respect. Thank you for sharing this. Right, no morals, no ethics. So appreciate your channel.

May God keep blessing you and your family and keep you always safe and keep providing you with wisdom for such an awesome calling you have at the sanctuary. Live you guys, Richard
It's long past time you looked at the man in the mirror and "removed the beam out your own eye so that you can see clearly to remove the speck out of your fellow man's eye".
Meg is like... for god sakes, just trust Kev! Whatever he says is always right and works for us! 👑😻
I've never understood bloodlust, thank God for huge favors.

I love how measured Kevin is about these complex issues. It’s hard to do that sometimes, especially when you are as close to it as he is.
God bless you Kevin . And the lions :D 2 thumbs up from Canada . NB: To the trophy hunters ? Go to h... ;P
Your patience and diplomacy is admirable
Also I would add that females that continually go into season are at risk of pyometra, it's a life-threatening disease. Males do not have that risk. Also continually allowing a male to breed with a female increases the chances of infection because breedong is not sterile and anytime there is penetration there is a risk of bacterial infection (which could be the spur of the pyometra in the first place).
This is also true of domestic dogs, captive wolves and captive african wild dogs, as well as domestic cats.
It's been well documented in scientific papers studying the effects of breeding in endangered captive species.
Rubbish
Hey kevin!! Wow some things just need to be left untouched. Clearly this man knows his business. He cares for multiple species of animals. Has an established relationship with them. @Roy Batty it's not that serious dude.
