Synopsis: Angela Baker has undergone years of therapy, electro-shock and sexual reassignment surgeries, and finally landed herself a job in the last place she should be working - camp rolling hills. She has an old fashioned approach as to how camp should be, and an old familiar deadly way of making sure that those who don't follow her rules don't get to come back next summer. - Dismal Angel

Originally they were going to bring back Felissa Rose.... but she didn't quite click with the tone and was attending college at the time.

Survivors Guilt Hey, forgot to mention in my tweet I’m Inside the Nushell’s secret Identity. Watch vids here so can insult everyone from Twitter and they’ll never know. Been doing it to this guy for years. And he doesn’t even know!
It’s the little things that give me purpose.

Oh man! it's SO good! the first 2 are fantastic, from the 3rd onwards it starts going downhill a bit in my opinion.avoid "Return to Sleepaway Camp" like the plague...unless you like a challenge! and thanks again! :)

As a fan of the original, my memory of renting this VHS and being excited to watch was one of my first lessons that sequels can be a problematic thing. While I was disappointed it wasn't a natural followup with the same tone, it immediately won me over with it's blatant and affectionate spoof of the genre. And I could buy into the idea that Angela ended up like this to cope. It wasn't them movie I wanted but it was still an enjoyable experience. You're take is just like mine. Pamela was very good in making this role seem real and not ridiculous. My opinion on why it's not 'bad' film (like the ones you mention) is it's very aware of what it is and does that sincerely and they didn't try to be something else and fail. They wanted a silly meta-horror comedy and that's what they made, so it's good on it's own merits even if it's not a great film.
Learning that sequels could be done by someone with different agendas on where the series should go was enlightening as a kid. I mean, would I have even really liked part 2 if it was just another genre entry at a camp? We'll never know. But I did enjoy this goofy film and it's odd contribution to my film history. Part 3, I knew what I was getting into though.

Oh man! thats great to hear and I feel where your coming from! it can be really hard to take on board when a series is pushed into a completely different genre/direction and it can be even harder to accept the change if you have existing preconceptions, I was the same with the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" movies. the first one (Esepcially on Bluray) is beautifully shot, it's dark grimey and overall an unpleasent but beautiful film to sit through, TCM2 knocked me for a loop. I just couldnt get how they went from heavily styalized and grimey to macarbre slapstick gross out humour and sets that clearly looked like sets. the lack of on location work got me too...im still not 100% on board with it. but Im much better with it than I was in the past. I suppose sometimes a change can be for the better and sometimes it can totally ruin a franchise for some.
Personally? I try and view sleepaway camp 2 as the "Batman Forever" of the sleepaway camp series. whereas the original was a compitently made slasher movie with some really nice twists and turns, this is almost a parody of that movie and the slasher genre in general. it feels like a made for tv movies version of the first movie that would play in the original sleepaway camps universe. and I can dig it. While 3 wears on me a bit (Just purely because "More of the same" is a little bit too much pastiche for me personally) I can always appreciate the first 2 for what they are. a well made slasher movie and a pastiche of a well made slasher movie. /:)

@@TYTDReviews It is always a strange choice to jump the tracks for a genre film but if it's done well, I can get on board with it. For reasons unknown, I didn't see Texas Chainsaw until some time later than Sleepaway Camp series. So the change in style wasn't as much of a surprise going into it. And to this day, I love 1 and 2 of TCM equally for different reasons. 1 being the gritty realistic terrorizer and 2 for it's colorful production, endearing characters and Tobe's intentional turning of the wheel to jump the tracks. It worked for me but I understand why it wouldn't for everyone. But don't trust me on TCM movies, I love them all, even The Next Generation and the most recent Leatherface. Don't judge me, lol. 😏
Batman Forever analogy? Dead on my man.

I don’t know... Nightmare Vacation 2 sounds more like just another trip to Disneyland with the family, despite knowing how it’s it gonna turn out.

The British have always been like that; it's not good enough to just stick with the title god gave a movie and let it be. NOOOOOOO they have to mess with stuff like that. I think you nailed the tone "Nightmare Vacation 2" gives off perfectly 😂 The only reason I can think they renamed it over here is because Summer camps arnt really a thing in the UK (Our Weather tho.) and that the BBFC or the distributors thought that people would be confused by the title "Sleepaway Camp" as it doesnt feature camping really. We have summer activity groups in some places...they're usually unpaid and you dont sleep at them. but thats the closest to the summer camp experience I can think of (Most of them are run by churches)

Great review. I was so disappointed with this one. Thought they butchered the character of Angela. This one was my final watch of the series. Never felt the need or want to watch the others.

In Fairness; having seen all the sleepaway camp films now, here would probably be a good place to jump off...you dont really miss anything in the later films. I treat Sleepaway camp and sleepaway camp 2 the same way I treat the Tim Burton era batman movies. Like; The original Sleepaway Camp is like the originals Batman/Batman returns in the sense that it's solid film making, trying to be genuine and has some really nice moments littered throughout. Sleepaway Camp 2? is more like Batman Forever, it's almost a pastiche of Sleepaway Camp. it feels like a film that'd be made in the original Sleepaway Camps universe as an exploitation film piggybacking on the events of the first movie....it's definitely not a well made or perfect picture by any stretch (and I agree with you that Angela gets totally trashed character wise in this compared to the original) but watching it almost like a Horror/Comedy thats pastiching the original + Slasher movies in general I do come back to it periodically...anything after this one though?...bleh.
