Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

E-40/The Click and Mac Dre had a pretty significant beef in the 90's. Also, Too Short and The Luniz, MC Eiht vs DJ Quik.

Soren, is it true that KRS recorded and brought Bridge is Over to Red Alert the same day he heard MC Shan's "The Bridge"? If so, that's insane. That's like social media speed for 1987. Lol

I think framing this as a "rap battle" rather then a "rap beef" would have been better. IDK the full extent of Kendrick's disdain towards Drake but their has been sour sentiments between the two since the Control freestyle and subliminals thrown at each other for quite some time. Both are multi-millionaires with rabid fan bases and so it was only a matter of time for before this would bubble to the surface. Competition is healthy for the rap industry as a whole esp when SKILLS are displayed which we got. Of course, the lines are crossed when it becomes personal and that can be negative but Drake crossed the line by getting personal. Once it goes their all bets off. Plus the accusations without proof leave much to be desired. But overall, this battle was a LONG TIME COMING.

Short answer... no. This Drake-Kendrick beef is a UMG manufactured beef. Let's get back to making some good conscious Hip-Hop music and leave the beefs for the suckas.

beefs on the mic, decks, walls and floor are great for hip hop, its just when all the stupid stuff happens that it lets down the whole culture. the rest of it is wack

when its a real rap beef between 2 rappers on stage face too face or pushing the art it self , i will say yes , but today the shit hits the fan and come realistic , kids dieing for littel fame , and a hole geration stick with it , and fiction becomes the new realtity , and the labels and companies make a big profit on top off that killig and sale out the own race !!! why no labels push some positive artist no more !!! like the x clans , puplic enemys !!!??? they controll with music is playing in the childs rooms !!!
