    Oh, I rescued a welsh border collie age 11 months old. She will be two years old this may and by heck she is very clever dog, very funny but very hard work at times as she missed out on a lot in her early days but my life wouldn’t be the same without her though. I do lots of walking, training and playing. There’s quite a long road ahead off us yet, but I’m sure one day she will settle down and become more relaxed with her life and surroundings, I mean though she hasn’t been with us that long, she will go into my sons bedrooms to say goodnight to them each evening before settling down to sleep herself and if one son isnt home she will Waite downstairs until her family is back under one roof, then she will relax upstairs for the night 😂 It helps me immensely watching videos like yours to help train her so thank you so much for sharing ❤

    Have a border collie we rehomed from a person who was struggling with him. Our approach neatly summed up by this video, thank you! He is growing into an absolute treasure.

    True, but if you are on them during puppyhood this period won’t be too bad

      Thats spot on, starting early and setting good boundaries creates a great foundation. Adolescence brings change and dogs differ in how they go through this stage. Thanks for watching and appreciate you leaving a comment. Cheers Nikhil

    Thanks for this! Thought we were doing something wrong but our 10 month old appears to be acting like a normal teenager. One thing he does now when we say "sit" is to briefly obey, and then get right back up, so we have to reinforce it with stay every time. He's still very easily distracted and when it's windy, anything is a target.

      Training often goes backwards during adolescence. Meaning we have to go back to basics and build up things like duration in behaviours like sit & stay. Another thing to consider is that your pup my be experiencing growing pains at this age which can mean holding a sit could be uncomfortable for them. Please keep me posted on how you go. Cheers Nikhil K9 Care

      Question…how long should a dog sit before you need to say stay as well cuz in my opinion he’s not doing anything wrong here…hes obeying the sit part that r asking for…there’s no designated time required to keep sitting so if your wanting him to stay after sitting then asking him to stay is what you need to do following the sit command….

    My dog is 16 months she is demanding all the time a few months ago she was great very well behaved but she's going backwards she demands attention by barking and stamping her feet . And pulls the cushions off sofa stuff like that in every other way she is brilliant

      Just don't reward the demands by giving in to them. Just ignore her completely when she does it, and while it may intensify as she tries harder to make it work, it will die out.

      Keep being consistent and only reward he behaviours you want, as per last comment they will try harder before they give up trying..

    is it possible to do away with commanding the dog to ‘sit’ ? and replace it with ‘stand-stand’ or ‘down-stay’ based on the situational or environmental cue?

    • @K9CareObedienceTraining
      @K9CareObedienceTraining  2 роки тому

      Yes and great question, you can replace it with Stand, Drop + Stay. Always good to have options based on what your dog can do or what your trying to achieve in different environments.
