  • More than 6 months have passed since the February military coup ended Myanmar’s experiment with democracy. But until today the country remains in a state of turmoil. Sporadic fighting has erupted from time to time between the security forces and the local people who oppose the return of military rule.
    Myanmar today also has to deal with a new wave of COVID-19 infections. Deaths in the capital city, Yangon, alone, have exceeded 2,000 per day in recent weeks. State hospitals can no longer accept patients after healthcare and medical workers go on strike in protest against the army takeover. Their refusal to return to work has now put the already overburdened healthcare system on the verge of collapse.
    Will the civil unrest and the worsening health crisis plunge Myanmar deeper into its darkest era? And will the people’s hope for the return of democracy remain just a dream?

      Truth is the vast majority of innocent people of Myanmar have suffered for way too long, through no fault of their own way back from centuries-long Anglo British Colonialism, followed by decades-long Anglo Western sanctions. Peace and prosperity to long suffering Myanmar people!

      @@ms.gregoria2249 The vast majority of good nature people of Myanmar, though still poor compared to the rest of Asia, are devout Buddhist and have a high treasured regard for their culture and tradition.
      With the opening of their country to the outside world, Myanmar risks the onslaught of negative unwanted foreign cultures; that it needs to shield and protect itself from, so as to keep much treasured and highly regarded Myanmar tradition, culture and religion.

      @@thykingdomcome7238 "Anglos caused most of the world's problems" - David Cameron, former British Prime Minister
      Let me rephrase it, if I may; "Anglos caused most of the world's problems, including a heck of a hell lot in Burma/Myanmar".
      - first under the long and painful Anglo British Colonial era;
      - secondly, boycotted and blacklisted by Anglo West, as an impoverished nation turned to Socialism for relief after Colonialism.
      Myanmar has a sad saying that goes "A poor young girl got raped and got hurt twice", referring to their nation's double tragedies. 🤔

      @@mrsalwaysright6478 Myanmar would have been much better off without Colonialism.
      For instance, there's hardly any Muslim, Hindu or Christian in Myanmar up until Colonialism.

      It a very sad and heartbreaking situation and I do not want to write anything to add to your suffering. I grew up in Mae Hong Son, near the border of Myanmar and they are a kind-hearted people. Not once had we ever had any problems with them. No thieft nor violent crimes ever happened that I personally has the knowledge of. We may had been enemies throughout our long history yet one can never deny the simple fact that we are people of identical suffering, pain, hopes, and dreams. Fences may separate us, yet our hearts are of same flesh and blood. They were more than just people who once crossed our borders, they were friends and brothers and sisters of us.
    I am physically removed from that place now. Mountains, plains, rivers, and thousands of miles away. Yet my prayers contain them. May they find the peace that their people deserves.

These countries have not a single shining example of success to show the world, other than touching photos of white humanitarian aid handing bottles of clean water to disaster victims.

    That former secretary-general of ASEAN & some analysts in this report understand well situation in Myanmar & what ASEAN is about. Myanmar entered ASEAN in 1997, during military dictatorship.
    During 2016-2020, NLD was too greedy, trying to swallow other anti-military & ethnic-based political groups instead of forging alliances/coalitions with them in respectable & mutually beneficial manner. NLD even failed to reach some kind of deal with military. By late November 2020, Myanmar was already a political disaster, although it wasn't visible to the general public.
    Even now, anti-junta groups lack unity. Citizens of Myanmar really need to learn compromise.

    The return of democracy against military rule in Myanmar very much depends on the anti-junta coup Burmese themselves. No help will come from other nations as there are more pressing geopolitical issues happening elsewhere that is now the top priority in focus. Situation in Myanmar now is very volatile. It’ll be a long drawn battle against dictatorship and tyranny. Casualties and deaths are inevitable on both sides of the camps. This is not the first war the world is witnessing and it certainly will not be the last. It’s a battle of endurance and perseverance. It’s a battle of wits and strategy. Myanmar will remain in turmoil and calamity for a long time. They have to learn to help themselves. ASEAN isn’t going to do more. ASEAN is about accelerating economic growth, social progress and cultural development in the region (business). ASEAN has nothing to gain from intervention into their neighbours domestic problems. The people of Myanmar have to join forces with the uprising ethic rebel alliances in order to stand a better chance in turning the table around. May the force be with them..🙏
