      I think I have adhd but I don't know because I was never diagnosed . When ever I lookup symptoms I always have most of them if not all . It's very hard for me to sit still and remember such simple stuff, I can't understand directions that are over a sentence . I can read something and 5 seconds later forget what I just read . I have a hard problem focusing on school work . I have a hard time handing it on in time . I always butt into other things that I shouldn't have . It's very hard for me to ignore the stuff around me . This is why I think I have add but I've never been diagnosed

    I’ve discovered I can’t get anything done unless I’m listening to music. I can’t clean my house because I feel overwhelmed by all the tasks at hand but for some reason having music on helps me have something secondary to focus on and I can be more productive. Same with cooking or whatever else I’m trying to accomplish. If I’m having a conversation I have to be fidgeting in some way to be able to also try and stay focused on who I’m talking to. So many other things.

      My 8th grade teacher had ADHD and it was a gifted class. So we got off topic a lot. I remember during Algebra we got off topic and started talking about college level math as a class. And then in science one student was talking to him about nuclear bombs and how they worked/were made and comparing them to atom bombs. English was one of the most sidetracted subjects cause of how diverse it can get. So we'd end up talking about Pokémon or pretty much anything that someone in the class found interesting. It was fun. One of my favorite teachers.

      I just listen to music in my head and that has to keep me focused while I'm staying silent on the job or talking. Talking actually helps sometimes to not make me bored. But that's often mistaken for beings unproductive. Being adhd in security is a good challenge to stay focused and it's a great way to keep you in a good mood.

      @JAmes2007 i struggle very much so in class room situations, i always have even through my high school. Im not 100% sure wether i have adhd or not, but i suffer from alot of the symptons. Ive seen a psychiatrist and he's got me on modafinil, i honestly dont notice anything from it. And yea he never really told me if i had adhd add or not.
      With what you just told me there i can relate very much, one on one im pretty good at listening, unless of course it really doesnt interest me, and then i tend to zone out.
      But in a group classroom environment, im hopeless, in one ear out the other.
      But when its something i do enjoy, and can relate to people with, such as sport, im a pretty good at.
      Problem being, i dont get paid to play sports, so its not a career option for me unfortunately.

      ADHD is a spectrum disorder, everyone's ADHD is different. You are not simply inattentive or hyperactive, just probably more predominantly inattentive. You will display some symptoms of hyperactivity, whether you realize or not.

    • @Mastermint
      @Mastermint 4 роки тому +3

      @@mrpk646 yeah. I'm the predominantly innatentive, but I fidget quite a and I can't stop dancing on the same spot when I have to stand for too long. It's great for rocking my niece to sleep, so all good?
      other than this, I'm pretty much a slug

    • @mrpk646
      @mrpk646 4 роки тому

      @TuckerFearnBentley You are misinformed; ASD is absolutely a spectrum disorder, It's in the name.... Autism spectrum disorder 🤦‍♂️
      Asperger's is no longer an officially attainable diagnosis. As of 2013 Aspergers and autism disorder were essentially merged into one diagnosis. The two (Aspergers and Autism disorder were separate diagnoses Pre-2013) however were folded into one, now known as Autism spectrum disorder.
      Hopefully that's coherent :)
      Now as for ADHD, I can't state this as factual (that it's a spectrum disorder) because I don't have any sources to back myself and can't be bothered to look, so we'll call it a theory. However it's a theory/thought process based upon common sense.
      These are "disabilities/conditions" whatever you want to word them as, that affect the way a person lives their life/thinks/feels etc. etc. therefore obviously they're going to be different person to person If the cause is neurological/genetic based, due to the nature of neuroplasticity + individuality.
      The criteria for a diagnosis is the same for everyone because its an identification tool used to detect clear indications in the differences between your neurotypical person and an atypical person who has the disorder. The criteria of an ADHD/ASD diagnosis are not designed however, to detect the differences between people that are already known to have the overarching diagnoses. ASD will have a more in depth, drawn out diagnostic process "categorising" you somewhere along the spectrum to determine whether your high/low functioning etc. and to indicate what kind of support is needed for you as an individual for the future.
      ADHD PI (Predominantly inattentive)
      ADHD PH (Predominantly hyperactive/impulsive).
      These are part of the same disorder, which would go under an ADHD diagnosis.
      The word predominantly infers that the "type" (PI/PH) is simply the side of the spectrum your ADHD is biased to in the way it is expressed. It does not mean that there are different types. Simply different ratio's of specific traits. NOT Different spectrum's entirely lol.
      Go look it up, it stands for predominantly inattentive ADHD, Also known as "ADD" which is not an official diagnosis. There is IMO one type of ADHD, which is a spectrum disorder, meaning people with the diagnosis will show similar general traits however there are differences between the way ADHD affects them, because of individuality. No one's brain is wired the same, and therefore you've got different groundwork for ADHD to play with, meaning it is displayed differently between people. The disorder itself is the same however.
      If you were to read my initial comment again, you'd see that I said most people are likely PREDOMINANTLY more PI or PH, I did not say that everyone's ADHD is completely different, simply that everyone's got different balances of the same disorder and may not notice their subdominant traits. Hence why some people think they're inattentive or hyperactive. You may be more one or the other but you'll likely have traits of both in your behaviour/personality/though process.
      This was poorly written tbh I'm not great at getting my thoughts out in a linear, simple format, so apologies for that. Hopefully it's understandable and not just waffle. I am aware I said the same thing multiple times I'm just making sure the point is understood.

I always interrupt people when we are talking, I can't stop thinking at all

    Hey, Dan, thanks for making all your awesome videos! I've been watching them for ...2 yrs? ... My memory sucks lmao. I got diagnosed with ASD of the high functioning variety a yr or so ago , in part due to a video of yours! You helped me realize a large part of why I behave the way I do and why certain things are just ridiculous to my brain (like most social things). Or why I seem to hate crowds , yet somehow want to be with people at the same time. (It's more the noise of the crowd or environment and less the people themselves) .
    And this video helped me to see that perhaps my psychologist (the same one who diagnosed me with ASD) also mentioned i may have ADD. I hadn't been evaluated for the ADD/ADHD , as it didn't seem to impact my life the same way my ASD does. (Social anxiety and depression brought on by some shutdowns were more the focus) . And ever since , I've been wondering why she said that.
    Now I can see perhaps why. What kind of person brings a literal list of behaviors to a psychologist and then blabs for literal hr on everything ranging from why they're there to why they brought a list to who knows what else I said, I dont remember. TL;DR: I realize now i probably made that list and jumped around the topics so much because my brain literally can't stop itself. I just go thought to thought.
    And I'm usually fidgety. And not necessarily to manage sensory overload . Sometimes I just feel...restless? I think that's the ADHD of more hyperactive sort trying to rear its head. I'll fidget or mess with things in my hands (pens, paper, etc ) or I'll be shaking my leg , often without even knowing I'm doing it until I'm distracted by my own noise making lol...
    Sorry that got so long! It's like you said in the video ....if you've got someone with ASD + ADHD + area of interest = you're in for an earful! I do that from time to time, like now lmao;;;;
    Soo, thanks for putting up with me ^^;;;;;,,

    “Just try harder to focus!” 🙄😥 although one of my natural coping mechanisms has been , like with the fidget spinners (which have saved me from being a much more dangerous driver btw) I can do 2 conversations at once better if they don’t talk over one another. Omgs though the forgetful thing yes, the switching activities I can focus on a big thing say cleaning the house but the individual tasks omgs i leave water running-wet rags on tables etc. your videos always make me so happy I’ve been diagnosed right with adhd yet so so sad that people refuse to allow those with invisible illnesses the extra they need. People become so annoyed with me because i have to hear things three times to get the first second and third part and then a moment to string them together. And I don’t shut up either. Sorry. I don’t have a community here and many MANY people, here in the USA are “misdiagnosed” with ADHD to be able to get the drugs and since capitalism is so intertwined with our health care system, and because our major GDP is pharmaceuticals I meet too too many people who have “add/adhd”. So I ask them well does adderal “slow you down” and if they say yes instead of something to the effect of “no it allows me to focus on one thing” that’s how I know they just like speed, and are one of the bad guys. I don’t condone giving children amphetamines anyway because I am of the conviction that the companies do this intentionally instead of prescribing behavior therapy to develop coping skills or prevent the toys like the spinners from being distributed with out a RX because they want to secure a massive/manic/bi polar depressive later in life. If you look into what consistent and long term use of amphetamines does to the brain it literally stops producing the chemicals the right way permanently, moreover the effects on the heart are insane too!!! , so then you need another pill because these doctors and companies can’t put forth a bit more effort aside from tossing a narcotic at a kid which is used not to treat it but to attain its side effect of hyper focus, I’m not saying it’s not necessary some times but man, I am more messed up because I trusted my doctors and we don’t teach and encourage patients and understanding in our societies but rather oppress and stereotype the disabled. I’m so sad. Anyway, thank you for being out here for me to “come home to”. I still cannot find anywhere to get screened for adult ASD. Recently my state and country elected business men to my governments and strangely enough the funding for those kinds of places has been cut off. Freaking weird coincidence huh? Smh I just want to know so I can begin to structure my healthcare and therapy around the right maladies so maybe I’m not is no much pain and so alone and feel so help and hopeless. Thank you again darling. You give me the faith that I can do this at times. The community to know I’m not alone, and the strength to keep fighting.

    I always suspected I had ADHD but didn’t care because I only wanted to do interesting things…but when I learned more about it a few months ago I realized that a lot of what was getting in the way of what I want to be doing with my life probably traced back to ADHD. I’m 31, and after 6 evaluation appointment, I was diagnosed last week. It’s kinda a relief because now there’s this all these strategies to try that might be more successful, and medication too if I can afford it.

We want to help our son out in school and we're looking to review him with our pediatrician as soon as we can. His actions also coincide with some of the ASD symptoms you listed in another video. I'm also wondering about myself since these are issues we never discussed while I was younger, yet they're a constant in my adult life. I really think I have adhd and I'm gonna get screened for it the next two months. I relate to all this so, so much, but I'm also scared I'm just making excuses and that it's my fault that I have difficulties with organizing, attention, patience, being too energetic, ect. 😔
    I loved this video ❤ thanks for sharing your experiences with the world, it's super helpful ❤

    I am 51 yrs old i wasnt diagnosed till I was 50. However I truly believe I had it since childhood and when I was in school. I have almost all the symptoms u talked about. People don't understand me and say oh I know what u mean i do that or that happens to me. Well jn school I was in special classes and I couldn't do book reports. I would get very distracted alot also. Now I get easily distracted and I have memory issues and i have comprehensive problems. I also start a task and switch before finishing

    Lol, you're adorable!
    So...my daughters psychologist asked me if we thought our wee one might have adhd (she's currently diagnosed high functioning autism). I had said absolutely not because I was under the impression that it was just hyperactivity! She's 5, she can be hyper but I don't think that's really an issue for her. But pretty much every other criteria you mentioned here I would say she has massive issues with! Yeah she's only 5 so I'm not overly concerned but I think I ought to mention it to her Dr!

    It’s mind blowing to me that people can genuinely just do things, they can study well in advance for an exam, and like not be a blob unable to do anything.

    I’m 28 years old and doctors are only just discovering that I might have had ADHD and dyscalculia my whole life. It’s a relief to know that this is why I am the way I am 😊
