    At 7:13, you pasted the whole DNS entry line (including host and type), and not just the value for the DKIM. Did you fix that later?

    I watched with patience and great interest the detailed Video on Mail Server Setup and then switched over to my installation realising that the Menues were completely different from what was presented on the Video.
    The key to the the missmatch was to be found in the fact, that I am using a MaiPlus Server. However, the video brought some good tips also to be used on the MailPlus Server as far as Secutrity is concerned. So thanks a lot for the nice job. And Happy New Year.

    A minor clarrification; by default, Synology creates firewall rules for all port forwarding rules you create unless you have disabled this feature under "Port Forwarding"->"Settings". Another helpful addition would be to show how to create SRV records; these can be used to help clients auto-discover email settings when configuring email clients.

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  2 роки тому +2

      @kenargo Thanks for your feedback!! I actually did disable the option to create firewall rules automatically in my setup and I appreciate the suggestion to include details on creating SRV records. I need to look into SRV records and may create another video if/when I get details put together.

      @@jlsantana2008 Its really difficult to say where the issue is with receiving emails because there are so many things in play, especially if you setup email to pass through Dynu Systems. What I would check is to make sure port forwarding and firewall rules allow access to your Synology NAS. Also, if you did sign up for Dynu Systems Email Store/Forward you can do a few tests from the Control Panel to confirm the configuration is setup properly as well. Hope this helps? And good luck to you in your setup!!

    @11:30 When setting up the IMAP/POP3 clients, even if the ports for forwarding and firewall rules were enabled from thee router but when setting up the email client (Thunderbird in this example) - the Confirm Security Exceptions are not successful - does it mean that we havee to install a specific Certificate so that our domain will become trusworthy? The Synology Certificate by default is not issued properly. Is there any steps that is missing in this setup?

    • @CRebelo
      @CRebelo Рік тому

      I have not tried this but I believe you can use Let's Encrypt certificates and assign to your MailPlus server. Go to control panel > Security > Certificates > Add. create certificate for root domain and in the Subject Alternative Name line add mail.

    Hello sir! I managed to set up the Synology mail server. I can send out mail but can not receive emails into the mail server. I have gotten a couple of warnings from my ISP about warning attempts into my synology NAS. They may be blocking my attempts to send email to my Synology NAS. Any suggestions?

      Hi Gary, You're welcome and thank you for the compliment on my videos!! Regarding your issue on sending emails it may be that your ISP is blocking port 25 and that may be the reason for those warnings as well. What I would suggest (if you did setup a Dynu account) is to use another port for outgoing email which this article covers -> www.dynu.com/Resources/Tutorials/EmailServices/EmailServerSetup/How-to-set-up-Synology-MailPlus-with-your-own-domain-name. Hopefully that does the trick for you and let me know how it goes. Best of luck!!

    Is it possible to perform this trick without using a service such as Dynu DNS?

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  Рік тому

      @tefazDK You could, but I would suggest using some sort of outbound relay for sending email. It just makes delivery of email a little more reliable. Incoming email could go directly to your mail server if you want to bypass a service like Dynu. Hope this helps and good luck with your set up!!

  • @PoeLemic

    Here is my question. After your setup, can you set up rules or create any manual rules for scanning the incoming email? For me, I'd like to have a way to access incoming email. Like say it is something from a family member, then I'd like to scan the email addresses for family; and, if so, then change the subject to something like this.
    [old.Subject] becomes soemthing like [FAMILY/Cindy -- ] + [old.Subject] --> or something like that.
    Or, also, I'd like to send any emails that I don't want to ever read to some dummy email account on my home mail server -- like "OldEmails@". Can you do that?

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  Рік тому

      Good question!! In Synology Mail Server the closest thing I can find that comes to filtering incoming email is the Black and White List option under Security. This will allow you to accept, reject or discard emails that come in based on rules you specify. I don't know of a way to rewrite the subject of incoming emails. For further details check out Synology's knowledge base article -> kb.synology.com/en-nz/DSM/help/MailServer/mailserver_spam?version=7. Hope this helps and best of luck in your setup!!

    Thanks a lot for your detailed explanation on synology products. Really helpful.
    As for me, I'm using three Nas'es, namely 414slim, 916+ and a 920+. They're all on the same network. The problem is that I have to keep my local VPN on when using the internet for most of the time. This is mainly because I live in China.
    The NAS'es are working properly, but I have no way to access either of them when I'm on vpn. Once switched off, no problem accessing their contents.
    Is there any workaround for this? Thanks in advance.

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  2 роки тому

      @user-wl2ih5cl9l You're welcome! Not completely sure how to answer your question and is this related to this video on running Synology Mail Server? Things you should probably look into in general is your VPN setup and see if there is a way to allow routes/access to your local network. I find in my setup that even if I'm connected to a VPN provider I'm able to access my local network so I'm sure there is some setting/configuration that should do the same for you. Sorry I couldn't be of much help, but if you do have further details I can see if I could assist further. Good luck to you!!

    FYI!!! There is a minor Bug in DYNU's pasting of the DKIM key. To fix this just go to the line ----END RSA PRIVATE KEY ------ place the Curser at the end of the line and hit the Delete key 1 or 2 times. Pasting places blank spaces and will cause it to fail. This will Fix it. Do not hit the back space, just the delete key.

    Why not Store Emails on synology

    • @digital_aloha
      @digital_aloha  Рік тому +1

      Actually in the end emails are stored on the Synology NAS. What Dynu provides is an intermediary that helps with sending and receiving emails. What you could do is not setup the email store and forward service and have your emails sent directly to your NAS if your ISP doesn't block the service.
