  • Watch Studio artist instructor and glass sculptor Shelley Muzylowski Allen demonstrate in the Amphitheater Hot Shop, assisted by her students.
    Suspending creatures in moments of tension, then recalling the myths and legends with which they are associated, Shelley Muzylowski Allen reminds us that nature is precious and fleeting.

    The artisan has the ability to translate anatomy into glass... such a thorough connection to mediums, tools and beginning with the end in mind. small flicks of the wrist to shape molten glass are similar to muscle skills develoed by sports-persons to give that magic touch. Beautiful.

    I am often in awe over your demonstrations and feel like two hours fly away. This was an exception though. Watching pre-made pieces getting heated and melded together was not that exciting, to be honest. All the pieces looked like they had an interesting process behind them, that we didn't see. And we didn't get to see the end result (though the other showpieces were amazing).
    The one takeaway that was novel to me was the three-pronged punty. That was quite interesting, though I am curious as to how the attachments ("cookies") are removed.

    I'm sure that pipe cooler is custom made. I've looked a lot into them and just about every one I've seen had an electric pump. Someone was selling one out of their shop for $4000 which I think is quite excessive- the most expensive new one I've seen so far was around $2000.

    None of the ones at the end look like the one she spent 2 hours putting together, I’d like to see a picture of that one if possible?

      Hi Gwen, thanks for watching! The piece wasn't complete prior to leaving the museum with the artist so out of respect for Shelley and her work we showed other completed examples of this piece

    Why make the main structure beforehand? Are you only allowed 1hour 45 min? Why not make a 2 part if time is a problem?

    • @corningmuseumofglass
      @corningmuseumofglass  2 роки тому +1

      Unfortunately we are limited in the amount of time we can provide artists during the day due to our Hot Glass demonstration schedules for guests of the museum. And the artists are here teaching classes which doesn't allow them more time for the demonstrations. Pre making elements of a piece is a good way for the artists to make what they want while also being conscious of the other moving parts of the museums functions. Thanks for watching!

    Somebody messed up! 360p? Please resubmit at 1080p or higher because it looks like it would be a great video.

      @TheStevenWhiting 2 роки тому +2

      No they didn't. When a video first goes up it lands at 360p. Takes a while for UA-cam to process it, then you get 1080p. You were obviously too early before UA-cam finished its conversion.
