  • On today's video we'll explain where this concept comes from and how a C.S.A. works. We'll discuss the benefits to the farmer and to the customer, and we'll talk about whether or not a C.S.A. would be right for you. How much does an average C.S.A. cost and what can I expect from my share?
February is the month we see National C.S.A. signup week and National C.S.A. signup day, as many farmers start signing up members this time of year for vegetable and meat shares. We offered our first C.S.A. subscription program around 2008 and we've seen what works and what doesn't. This video is primarily for the prospective C.S.A. member, so if you are interested in starting your own C.S.A. program for your farm, let us know, and we can make that video in the future!

Very grateful for you commitment to educating the public! You inspired me to look up a CSA near me (Salinas Valley, California).

I thought you were from Massachusetts, until you started talking about Kentucky and your growing season. This video is a great explanation of the CSA model.

I'm member of a CSA where you go to the farm and harvest your produce yourself. The farmers hang out flags to show what can be harvested. Purple flag for tasting only, blue for harvest what you can eat fresh and yellow for harvest plenty, also for jam, pickles or soup because it's about to shoot. I can go whenever I want and choose the veggies i like. Onceca month it's 'work-day', and members are asked to help if possible with planting or weeding. And there are events like movie night or camp weekend. I can't seem to find a lot of CSA's who work this way, most have boxes. I like to go to the farm and take my time, away from the hussle of life. But I guess it's not for everyone to go harvest (if rain for ex). And prolly some crops are lost if members aren't to carefull where they walk or harvest to early.

Do you ship any of your C.S.A. boxes or is it just local? Thanks.
