Togo defender here: we have had one for 25 years now, and still love it. Y'all know it comes in a version with arms, yes? The plus side of the version with arms is that the kids when they were little could couch surf with ease, and sonny boy realized that a twin fitted sheet fits over the top easily for a quick pillow fort base. And despite such kid abuse, 20 years on it still is great! Yes about the low profile and getting in and out. My folks use the regular non-Togo side chairs in the family room instead.
Also, back when, Ligne roset had a mini and micro Togo versions, so we got one for each kid. (siblings, sharing, hard) As a plus, the mini's were easy structural add to sonny boy's pillow fort.
I am so satisfied with my basic, perfectly fine, velvet sofas after hearing what a sofa that costs as much as my car is like. The terrazzo (?) one, the 💩sofa, looks practical if you're assembling a herd of chihuahuas for a photo shoot.
Haha! Dying 🤣 perfect description. Velvet has always been my go to for sofas. The performance fabric is unmatched compared to others, and yeah some of the prices are outrageous 🫠🫠
Can we have a moment to discuss the huge leather looking sectional and pieces that mimic movie theater chairs..The ones with built-in cup holders and electrical plugs...😮🤔😡
TOGO, BELLINI, TERRAZZA, CLOUD are all a big fat, hard NO for me and that's irrespective of price. I am 5' 8.5" tall and my family members are taller still. No short people sofas for us ever. Please showcase sofas that are tall people friendly and not for lounging. When I want to lie down, I do so in bed. I want my sofa sophisticated enough to have folks over for conversation, not lying around. Think of two sofas facing each other and the fireplace lit. I prefer my sofa elevated, creating a light and airy environment. I like my cat to be able to take refuge under the sofa. I like being able to see the floor underneath the sofa. The right sofa is a personal preference, not a trend. Thank you for keeping it real with both the pros and cons of these popular sofas. That said, I do like a lot of RH furniture, especially their dining room tables.
In Europe these sofas are not considered low. They are normal. I’m not sure why beds and sofas are so high in the US. I am always so shocked to see high beds with box springs to make beds even higher!
By “frequent fluffing” I think you mean that RH technically recommends that you fluff the cushions EVERY TIME you stand up, that is one high maintenance sofa 😂 I used to be in furniture sales and none of us would touch that sofa in the last 30 minutes of being open because unless the doors were locked and everyone was out, you knew once it was fluffed someone would sit on it and you’d have to do it all over again. Love the video though! I agree I’ve have always seen 💩 with the terrazzo haha
My issue is.. that to me every single sofa looks ugly. Like I looked through entire catalogues and they all just look.. Ugly! Or if they are beautiful then they’re like hard and stiff and clearly uncomfortable looking, more like decoration. Idk what to do, I’m supposed to get my first proper sofa ever soon.
I love the Blade Sofa by Milo Baughman. Mid Century modern with a twist. Pricey at 9k, but worth it. Another low, expensive and trendy sofa is the Vetsack modular system.
My grandparents have a pair of modular sofas from the 70s that I love, but I have no idea what they are. They’re really small and simple armless boucle sofas. Very MCM looking. I’m gonna have to pull the cushions off and try to find a makers mark next time I’m over there.
Great reviews. Bang on. I would like to hear what you have to say about the Mah Jong from Roche Bobois, the Andes from West Elm, and the Vladimir Kagan Serpentine.
Hi there! What color of sofa is the best way to go that's timeless? I see a lot of white and off white. Even with those people with kids and pets - which I personally, don't know how that works for them. And, the designer of that chair and how much please? Thank you!
Can we have a part 2 please? I would be more interested in a *Chesterfield* or a *Tuxedo* styles. Are they comfortable? I am not interested in those 'designers' sofas, even if I would be millionaire.
that togo couch does look comfy, but I think I'd never beable to get out of it on my own DD. Great video! but man, I can't get my head around a couch worth more than my truck . . .
Yeah some of these are quite the price tag 😅 I have a single one of them and it’s super comfy, let’s just say it’s a challenge to get out of, once you’re in it, you just stay there 🤣
That chair is beautiful , love the color combination , I'm thinking using that colors for my kitchen , my cabinets are the same tan on your chair , and wood like to paint the lower cabinets in that shade of blue . Please tell me if that is good idea . I have a copper sink ,facet and door pulls my floor is natural bamboo . Also wood like to change counter top for Porcelain in Calcatta Gold .?
This is going to sound like a strange request but could you give a list of great sofas that is rated for heavier people? I'm not heavy set but my husband is.
The Bellini Sofa reminds me of the round tops of dinner rolls.🤣🤣 I would hate the feeling of literally sitting on top of the sofa, rather than relaxing into it. Looks so uncomfortable.
It looks like you would have to do some hard concentrating to figure out just WHERE and how you are supposed to sit on it. I still do not know if you are supposed to sit on top of a bun or between the buns.
i've had Flexsteel and La-z-boy my whole life, but our new Stickley sofa and loveseat are coming day after tomorrow (eeeeee, so excited 🥰) Maybe i'm a tad on the boring side, but i'll take my stuff over these fancy sofas any day. When i see some of these like that first one, i always wonder how a pregnant person gets out of them. If it had been me, i would have had to birth and raise the kid right there the whole time. The Terrazo sofa, though, could be the perfect way for parents to keep their kids entertained without having to buy a trampoline -- something to be said for that, i guess. 😀
Congratulations on your new Stickley furniture! You have just made an investment on some of the best American made furniture. I live in Manlius,NY where its made!
The example at 9:21 just cracks me up. The room looks like the entire budget was spent on the sofas, and the rest of the furniture and "decor" came from someone's college dorm room
As far as the ligne roset sofas are concerned, I unfortunately have to disagree. I took over Togo elements from my parents after they were supposed to be reupholstered, but my mother no longer liked them for orthopedic reasons. My upholsterer, a great craftsman, found them a nightmare also because of the poor quality of the foam. Other than that, B&B Italy, the quality and service are fantastic. Couch elements from the 70s have still not been worn through, although 6 children and now also grandchildren have made extensive use of them. B&B continues to supply the appropriate materials even after decades. Yes, B&B is expensive, but compared to ligne roset, it's worth every EURO, formerly Lira or DM. ;) By the way, I love your channel!!
I wouldn’t have any of the mentioned. Did that been there in the 60’s & 70’s. Non of these is a classic. I’m now in my 70’s and functionality is paramount coupled with ergonomics and style. You’re missing the market with the $$$$.
This video illustrates a pet peeve that I have about contemporary design and designers, and this pet peeve even extends all the way to architecture and architects. Contemporary designers seem to be ONLY visual in their orientation and considerations. Have they never even heard of "form follows function"? Did they not study any of the truly great mid-century designers (not the schlock mongers of that era) who took both aesthetics AND function into account? Are they so egotistical that they can rationalize selling beautiful garbage at inflated designer prices to gullible rich people who have more money than they can spend intelligently? My God, stupidity, ego, and luxury seem to go hand in hand.
Sometimes people cannot have style or taste no matter how much money you have. They get it for the look, with no thought about the actual function in a space. What a privilege that would be I don’t think I’d ever afford that luxury
I have not and would not consider ANY of these "sofas"....... such a shame that not a single " real" sofa made your list.....though I can't say I'm surprised, honestly
I don't know, the roly poly sofa makes my skin crawl, I don't want to be enveloped by a carapace. All of the overly bulbous, mold pattern growth sofas are just ugly. I don't want to have to make my couch like my bed every time I get up.
I call the Togo sofa the Shar Pei sofa as it just reminds me of that pleated dog. It's not a good look on a sofa. The Cloud sofa is just a hot mess that always looks like an unmade bed.
I’ll start with the positive: you both are adorable and the home’s staircase is nicely done. But sorry (you did ask) the house is a hodgepodge of bad space planning. Too many odd and small spaces. It should have been expanded further into the back garden. Do the kiddies really need such an expansive playground? And a guest house house?A home of this stature needs larger rooms. And it begs for more formal spaces for dining and reception. I do appreciate that the garage is underground. Great place for cars. Not people. The basement is void of all natural light. Too depressing and cave-like. Had the floor plan been expanded to some of the garden, those recreational areas would be bathed in sunlight. Whatever the price is for this residence is, I dare say I’d be spending an equal amount on Xanax to alleviate the anxiety caused by living in such a dark, cramped house.
Daddy, sorry but I really hate every one of these you have highlighted. My major problem is that they all attract too much attention to themselves, so everything else in the room would not even be noticed. Man, they are are pathetically ugly, and I would be confused as to where to even sit. Form is emphasized over function to the point that function is completely disregarded. These sofas that scoff the idea that one would only want to sit down is ridiculous. I guess they are all merely a terrible joke to people with too much money and no brains. With that in mind, this review is entertaining. Reminds me of Kim K. paying big money to have the world worst living room. She is the brunt of a joke, but doesn't have the sense to realize it. The cloud is not bad. However, it would have to constructed to bounce back perfectly with NO fluffing ever needed. BTW, I researched your "UP chair", and really like the form of it. My eyes only gravitate to the disconcerting seams of that stripe. The solid fabric versions allow me to appreciate the graceful and comfortable form of it. 🥰
You contradict yourself a lot in this video. In another video armless sofas are a no go. You also do like cloud sofas because they look messy but the white chair you showed looks as messy as it can be.
So sweet of you to consider/mention the vegan aspect of design
It has definitely slowed down the furnishing process in my current home
I try and be equatable as possible in designs, I know it’s a little factor, but for someone who’s vegan I know would appreciate
A must-watch video specially to those home owners who are about to make an upgrade their Sofas. 🥰
Thank you 🙏🏼🙏🏼

Yes! 😀
Velvet (more usually velour) is essential if you have cats. I have been able to invisibly mend so many kitty sins... couldn't do that on that Togo.
So happy with my basic Chesterfield sofa. I can’t stomach most of these strange designs lol
I have 2 Restoration Hardware leather Kensington (Chesterfield) sofas and I’ll have them until I die 💙

The way he said "Ma Rio" Bellini.... 🤣
Great reviews. Bang on. I would like to hear what you have to say about the Mah Jong from Roche Bobois, the Andes from West Elm, and the Vladimir Kagan Serpentine.
I had those on my list for this video but it was going to be too long so I’m going to make a part 2!
Le Corbusier LC2 is office vibe, low back and not soft as should be but still my favorite. Bellini looks like physiotherapy device for a good posture.
Couldn’t have said it better myself
What a great job! I want to do this Thank you for the advice! I have been debating on painting my refrigerator black. If you can do it, so can I!!!!

the price tag with these sofas are wild. But if I could afford a Bellini I would. I would definitely create a frame to lift it off the floor.
I personally love the Roger sofa from Minotti so sleek 😅
I love this channel!

Right? You need to have balance with these kind of things, especially with the budget.

I know! I’ve loved it for so long 😭
I'm in love with the togo! is it good for sleeping on?
Not so much! The ridges dividing the seats make it difficult to lay flat. Definitely only meant and designed for sitting
