  • Farm Auction, Fence Cleanup, and Machine Shed Update! Spence and I started getting the north fence on the main farm cleaned up. A couple days later I got the Machine Shed locked in with the builder. Spencer and I went to a local auction in Central Iowa, and I was trying to buy a really nice condition Case IH 496 Disk to use on the Corn on Corn ground, CRP, and any other touch-up spots. I thought I had the disk at $10,000 and then an older gentleman stepped in and really smacked the whip on me with the price. It got a little too high..... I had to let it go.

    The most “efficient” way to remove a fence is to get a bushhog into it and watch it pulling a half mine strain of wire in before you can get it shut down.
    ...it’s the hour and a half you spend with bolt cutters and a torch afterward that isn’t “efficient”. Ask me how I know 🙄

      If, your not going to save the wire, and poles, then just burn off everything and turn it into the salvage yard for a profit. Metals are up, is what I'm being told in Iowa.

      It's trying to cut the wire out of the bearings that I find most inefficient....

    Those fence posts, not the metal ones, but the wooden ones, if they are black locust(most likely not) they will be good to reuse. I've reused 145 year old black locusts from the remains of the dairy farm I bought. Black locusts fence posts are harder than re-enforced concrete. If you don't want to use them and they are black locust they sell for $5-10 bucks a piece. More money for the budding farm.

    Hey Grant, not sure if you are interested or not but our old planter is for sale here in central pa. It’s a Deere 1770nt setup for liquid fertilizer, liquid N beside the row and also has a in furrow system. It’s setup woth section control as well. We bought a 1775nt to be able to run faster. Only reason we traded it in. Get ahold of me and I can send ya the info to the dealer it’s at.

    Crazy disks are that expensive. I thought that they're kind of obsolete, everyone wants a vertical tillage tool now. It might be a bit small for an 8110 anyhow?

    • @granthilbert5632
      @granthilbert5632  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah. I would rather keep it a little smaller. I don’t own too much ground, so smaller the better👍. And yeah the disk went crazy high, was really hoping to get it, but at that high of price I should just start looking for a VT Tool.

    I have a suggestion you should use the enclosed trailer as kinda like a tool trailer for when stuff breaks in the field. You can also put seed bags in there as well as you can probably put a fuel tank in there to re fuel your tractor that’s what we did for the first 2 years of farming we had a rolling toolbox in there that was strapped down. It worked really well.

    Your couldn’t pay me million dollars to be farmer. Super long hour sometimes from 4am to past 12 at night and have to take short naps in the day if you have a slow day. Then everything breaks when you need it to work the most. Super cold or super muddy or super dry. I worked on a few farms. You handle a lot of money but never really get to keep it. If you don’t feel good you still have to do your farm stuff. Super hard lifestyle.
