did you watch the video? they were attending meetings for multiple jobs at the same time. That means they were working 9-5 jobs at the same time. That's time stealing, and at least for all my work contracts I had to be fully available to the company for 9-5 each day.

If you're somewhat good at your job and can do things twice as fast as the average joe, your CEO won't pay you more for doing the extra work, instead the CEO will expect you to do more work while your colleague can keep eating out of his nose for the same pay

I work at a certain grocery store on the east coast. Two years ago in the height of covid when staffing was nonexistent one of my friends who worked at another store was terminated. She was a full time employee, but she did part time work as a vendor going to various stores. This woman was not only exceptional at her job, but in the years I've been with the company (At various stores meeting other's with the position she held) none of the other people with her position can measure up to her work ethic and the results she put out. Problem was the district manager was buddy buddy with the store manager who disliked my friend. My friend traveled over a hundred miles (Crossing multiple states) to another district to help with new stores opening up. Upon her return she was given the ultimatum that she either picked our company or her part time work (The very one she openly admitted to doing for years, and just now it was a problem) so she left the company. So when Asmon says he doubts ceo's would get rid of good workers, I can blatantly say that's not necessarily true if work place politics are in place where egos override what's best for the corporation.
They literally want you to be poor. In our mandatory "fraud" course, an example was "keeping a close eye on work colleagues who suspiciously improve their lifestyle" .
"A new car? From what we are paying him? Report this suspicious activity to HR"
A family friend of mine worked at a large fencing company. One of their accountants suddenly started coming in with new handbags and a brand new 100k car. Told everyone she had received a large inheritance before leaving the company. A year later the new accountant discovered she'd stolen about 2 million from the company.

The home Depot situation is exactly my current problem. We downsized from a crew of 13 to 5 people. Now the workload is near impossible.
unionize, remind them that when the corporate satisfaction falls, when the store deteriorates, they bear the responsibility to fix things, not you.
Reminds me when I worked at a store that was understaffed. The days when we just had 1 extra person, were like night and day.
Unionize or quit and let the whole thing collapse on itself. Much like how products will never improve if ppl keep buying, jobs will never improve if people keep slaving away regardless of condition or pay.

What you're saying is akin to blaming consumers instead of recognizing the huge flaws built into the capitalist system. It's too easy to blame the bottom of society. As a software engineer, I will inform folks right now that NOT every where you go will make you sign a non-compete. As with most jobs, it depends on where you go

Hahaha @jcfrules I'll let others decide that, but yea, I have no interest in working for those large, "prestigious" companies for many reasons, one being related this debate. I'd say I work in a mid-to-large size company, and there's no non-compete. There's also just tons of debate as to how fair non-competes are as a whole. It's kind of the whole reason courts will first look at the reasonableness of a non-compete before enforcing the document on a legal level. It's a piece of paper that can very easily disrupt one's lifestyle and flow of income even if they're approaching things in the most ethical way possible

Let’s be real here, if you have 2 jobs, you’re not really working 80 hours a week. We both know it, I’m a software engineer too. I think that’s what the ceo was mad about.
I always thought it was unfair that when leaving a job your expected to give at least 2 weeks notice otherwise it reflects poorly on you as an employee but you can be laid off or "fired at will" with zero notice and for doing nothing wrong.
Well, that's the issue of your country's labor laws though, that were collectively agreed on. Where I live, depending on the time you worked at the company, 2 weeks is bare minimum notice from either side, for people who work for less than 6 months. After that, it's 1-3 months.The only exception is being fired with cause or amicable dissolvement of the contract. I think there are some separate regulations for group firings too, but I can't recall from the top of my head.
I never give 2 weeks' notice. I work for money. I'm not there to suck anyone's dick or sniff someone's asshole. As soon as I want to quit, I do. Fuck telling them, I am am not and never was their friend.

At the 5.08 mark the Manager's post is clearly visible. In this he says "This isn't about side-hustles of moonlighting. These were people holding down two, full-time synchronous jobs."
Sure money is probably the motivating factor but trying to do two full time jobs at the same time is quite clearly dodgy.
Especially when you're expected to be handling on-call demands (IT, Remote Automation support, etc) while logging hours for development in-between. I've had coworkers in automation and control panel design do this shit on the clock. One was even fielding his own 'consultation' gig during working hours, where he was using the companies licenses and resources for remote support instead of working on the things he was provided the access for in a timely manner. His ladder code, branch sizing and troubleshooting skills were shoddy, because he spent a majority of time managing the illusion of progress, he wasn't practicing the skills he was marketing to others. With automation and electrical engineering jobs being chronically available in undesirable parts of the country, he'll always have work. @@Quotheraving
At software devlopment it really isn't, more often then not you can finish your job really fast then spend the rest of the week pretending you're still working on it. Speaking as someone with experience. @@Quotheraving
@@brunosouza3326 The fact that it is sometimes possible to finish a job ahead of schedule doesn't mean that its ok to take a second full time job.
While there may be occasions when you finish early and could spend the rest of the time sitting on your hands it's those occasions where you can't, or even over-run, that matter.
As mentioned in the article this situation was noticed because of the negative effects it had on their work - clearly the "I can manage it sometimes" argument has no legs.
The ironic thing is a CEO can have 1 job and bring a company down in flames, yet still get a multi-million dollar bonus.....and keep the job.
It's shitty that CEOs can and often do this. Some CEOs are known for breaking down and selling off parts of companies. However, what you're saying is not the same as what the people who got fired for.

What's more ironic is that CEOs usually sit on other companies' boards, and do that job at the same time.
Yes, if a company is projected to do poorly and they bring in a new CEO and give him bonus incentives to lose X amount less and he accomplishes it then he earned it by the contract between him and the board. Dumbass.

Work in a warehouse. Have a good leader\boss I respect. Mentioned I had to find a job on Sunday to be able to make it with new payments. Within a week he talked to all his upper people and got me a (reasonable) raise so I would be okay not needing the extra day, and not have to be exhausted coming in to the job I already work , suffer in both jobs, and have one less day with my family (I bust my ass I am hyperactive) that is what a good boss would do
Wish more bosses were like that. Sounds like a great guy.

1. informing him (these engineers did not)
2. intended working another job after your job at the warehouse. Not during your job at the warehouse.
3. was open to not get another job.
These guys were not informing their current employee, doing their job during the working hours of the other job and were not open to negotiations at all.

@@FenrisEx true, not really similar situations at all you are doing a physical job, but the truth on this big companies, in the 2-3 that i've worked with, there are certain positions that are critical but don't really have any kind of upward mobility, and they usually need a very specific kind of person for the position, it takes time to be familiar with systems and the people you need to interact with to keep everything going smoothly, and if you get proficient at it, the best case scenario for the bosses, they don't have to look at you, you become invisible because you are doing your job well, it becomes repetitive, boring and in many cases you are paid to be vigilant, not really to do any kind of constant task, so you either watch some videos, read something, or if you want to make some more money you find another job cause IT certainly doesn't really pay more to people doing multiple positions.

i worked at a home healthcare agency in california as what basically amounts to as a front desk secretary. my job was mainly to answer the phone, collect some info from the client, and determine who i should transfer them to. i also did additional paperwork and data entry work for the more qualified people who worked in the office. all that was well and good but the person who had my job before me would take the full 8hr day to do her work... i did it in the first 2 hrs of my day and then had nothing to do besides wait for the phone to ring. for being so good at my job i would get bitched at that i was just sitting around, so i asked what they would like me to work on. they either had no answer or told me to clean the office (we had janitors on staff that did that and it was no way in my job description). none the less i did do as i was told and cleaned up the office, since it took 20mins to an hour tops. when i finished i asked what they would like me to do next... they told me to do it again, i asked why, if i had done a bad job or i missed something. no, they just wanted me to look busy..... Long story short... corporations are bullshit.
Sounds like the person who did that job before you was smart by taking the entire shift to do it lol
I had an "employer" that did this. He signed a contract for my services and the contract specifically stated what those services entailed. He tried to get me to do work outside of what the contract stipulated and I refused. He didn't like it because I finished my work quicker than I usually did; I was training a third person, who I had to pay. He didn't hire me again, but I contracted out my services to a competing venue and made them a lot of money. In those situations I hold them to the contract they agreed to.
My feeling is simple. If you want to retain talent. Pay them like you want to retain them. You can't tell me these people are being paid really well if they're seeking out a second job.
People will hustle. People earning 900k salary for working 6 jobs.

I work for 3 security firms. Apparently they don’t have a problem with it.
The FTC announced that they will stop employers from using NDAs as a means to corner employees.
The purpose is to drive down wages & costs of training. When they should be fair like they are supposed to be. Has nothing to do with the competition. Literally.
Our professor was telling us about this a few weeks back. Specifically how working from home can drastically increase your income depeing on your living expenses and how multiple people would definitely work multiple sub par jobs because working 2 easy jobs that pay 65k is better than 1 difficult job at 90k.
working at home has saved me a fortune in gas and toll fees (if I dont take the toll to work into like a 2 hour drive, taking the toll is a 30 minute drive)

I work in warehousing and sometimes when we don't have as much to do, we either can get voluntary unpaid leave or stay and sweep, it's really funny at the end of the day seeing 20 people holding brooms just waiting for our shift to end. building is already swept we just got to look like we are kinda doing something.

@@WCamden Most programmers aren't paid by the hour. They have tasks they work on for the day that go toward a larger overall project. If they get those tasks done faster than what is required, and the code is solid, then how are they stealing, exactly?

The overwhelming majority of programmers are paid by the hour, very few are paid based on deliverables and even if you are a salaried employee part of your employment contract is that you will be "working" a minimum number of hours. That means if you aren't working or doing things that benefit the employer and you are instead spending 6 hours a day playing video games you are not fulfilling your agreed upon contract. As a developer if you aren't being tasked with enough work then you should be asking for more work, or completing continuing education, or taking initiative to find projects you can work on yourself to benefit the company/customer. I have never worked a job in IT in over 12+ years as a senior developer that didn't have a literally mountain of work that *could* be done but wasn't a priority. People are just lazy/greedy it's that simple.
In Arizona we have anti-competitive laws meaning a job cannot fire you for having other jobs, or even fire you for saying you are looking for another job.
They can only fire you if you have access to trade secrets and could otherwise engage in espionage, which espionage is illegal on a federal level. But "software" engineers having trade secrets? Maybe. But they could prove that the second job in no way was a competitor or even participated in the same commerce field, then that would be illegal in Arizona.
Not all states are as awesome as bipartisan states like Arizona.
I do think this CEO has a point. If you get a second job with the intent to milk to hours for the check but know you will underperform on purpose. Because you just want the free money, and who cares if you get fired? You have your main job.
So I agree with the CEO, only for one reason, it's like stealing from an actual promising candidate, you are taking the chance from someone else who applies.

Had something like that with a boss of mine, telling me to quit my other job(its a different line of work) or he’ll fire me because I am losing focus at work. So I asked him “Do I finish all my work and leave on time everyday?” . He was fumbling his way, trying to change the topic. I told him to answer my question and when he said “Yes” , I told him to get off my back.
Some bosses just feel entitled enough that they feel like their employees should be only working for them.

He was essentially saying that working two simultaneous full-time jobs is a form of time theft from your employer and therefore immoral. The was no mention of employee performance until later in the video, when he was giving what he believes are “tips for spotting,” said employees. He believes working two simultaneous full-time jobs is a problem regardless of performance.
I agree that in this case he had every right to fire them. It’s absolutely a problem and a fireable offense, if working two simultaneous full-time jobs impacts your performance at ether job.
But I see no problem with working two simultaneous full-time jobs, provided there is no conflict of interest and you are performing at the expected standards for both positions. It’s not inherently a bad thing.

@@robrobinson8597 generally engineering jobs are paid on salaries, not hourly. Also if you're prioritizing hourly work as opposed to efficient quality work, you will receive garbage everytime. Industry leaders know this, and in certain fields that is desirable. Not in software.

This totally doesn't take into account the main reason WHY people work more than 1 job. Especially if you live in California. Right now in California, average housing cost is $769,000. On a 30 year fixed loan with current interest rates that is $4,762 a month. Minimum wage is $15. At 40 hours a week, for 52 weeks, that gets you $31,200 a year. Taxes will take 18.4% of your annual salary (federal, state, social security, and medicare). This brings your approximate annual take-home pay to $25,450. You would only be making HALF what you require for housing alone, not including food, vehicles, school debt, other debt, etc. Even if you just take the average rent cost in CA, that is $1,726 a month, equaling out to $20,712. That gives you $4,738 to last you 12 months for food, vehicle, debt, etc. All of this is expecting you to support only yourself. If you have a family, you better hope for more.
Point being, if they want you to only have 1 job. PAY THEM to only have one job. If a company can report 2 billion dollars in profit for a year, and you have employees struggling, your profits are coming from their pockets. You are stealing from your workers, forcing them into poverty or working-poor situations for those massive profits that never go to the people propping you up on their shoulders.
If you’re working remote, you don’t have to live in an expensive area.

The problem is you are comparing the average home price to the lowest possible wage. It doesn't really make much sense. The same thing could be said if you took Jeff Bezo's home in Beverly Hills and compared it to the average wage. They just aren't comparable. If you work minimum wage your around the 25th percentile of earners. I'm not sure what the 25th percentile home value is in California, but I think it would make your argument stronger if you used those numbers instead.
If only people were allowed to move elsewhere....
That shit's happened at almost every job I've ever had. Work crew gets smaller, workload stays the same, individual workload increases, then it becomes a game of how can I milk this job until they have to fire me because there's no way I'm doing 4 people's jobs for 1 person's pay.

IMO if you're doing the job you were hired to do at a satisfactory level, and you don't have a conflict of interest (i.e. working for competitors), then there's absolutely nothing wrong with holding multiple jobs. The key is whether you're fulfilling your obligations or not. IMO this even applies if you're not holding multiple jobs. If you're not fulfilling your duties, expect to lose your job. Period.

I think the main point is "full time job". When you're doing that, you're expected to dedicate specific hours to it, and certain degree of availability outside of those hours. Which will never mix well with other full time job. It just won't.

I think the issue is that the two jobs were synchronous, the hours overlapped. If one started after the working hours of the other, it would probably be fine; barring non-competes and that kind of thing. They were working the same hours at two places and there is no way to be in two places at once, or in two meetings at once, and pay attention and be productive. I used to work a second job, but it was on weekends and at night so they never interfered with each other. It's common sense to me what this guy was pissed off about.

I once worked for a job that the manager reprimanded me for working a part time job telling me that if I needed more money to work OT, but when I started to do more OT get reprimanded for that because "there's no money in the budget for OT". The 2 jobs was in completely different fields and the part-time job was only 4 hours every weekday and starts 3 hours after my clock out from my primary job and I was not under performing at both. Learned that they just want us to dedicate blood and soul to only that company.

The thing about software engineers is that we are expected to give our life blood and every bit of our attention in benefit of the competitive advantage of a company. If you could do 2 things but you were only asked for 1 you still get seen as doing only half than you could.

Being paid a lot per hour of work is a luxury not many get to have, plus you usually (not often everywhere) get paid more for doing exhausting hours, or extra things, like having to live at or near work, moving, losing out on national holidays etc. So yes, if you are paid well, maybe let the next person get a chance at being paid well in your industry.

It's not a tradable commodity. It's an implied contract. "I agree to do XYZ within 40 hours if you pay me ABC." - If a company actually cared about productivity they pay their people salary and monitor tasks completed. Because the company pays the same whether it takes 30 or 50 hours to complete. Most businesses would rather it be done faster. Only micro-managing penny pinching nits take the "babysitter" approach to hiring and those places you don't want to work anyways. In fact, most employees in those environments will actively go out of their way to make tasks take longer to fill up the week. But they're fine with that as long as they have warm flesh bags in their overpriced commercial rental building to justify it's existence.
Isn't this the same story where the two employees were missing meetings and deadlines because they were trying to juggle both jobs on the same hours? If they had a second job on their own time that's one thing. If they are not meeting the requirements of their job because they are trying to double book the same hours, then yeah, gotta say they deserve to be fired.

People-usually inexperienced young employees-fall into this trap quite often. They think that if they do more than their job description asks of them they will be more likely to be promoted, because they’re displaying “initiative” and “competence” to perform greater tasks. In reality this results in them never getting a promotion; if you can have someone who’s doing manager work for floor level salary/wage it just doesn’t make sense to promote them to do the same thing they’re already doing and for more pay
@@kevinc8955 but your case is the exception not the rule, companies are always extremely bottom heavy and very light at the top regardless of how small or large the company is. It’s basic business, if you’re in the business of making money then you’re not going to essentially give money away by promoting someone who already does the work of a higher paid position for lower pay. If you do that then you’re trading in business ethics for personal ethics. It is the ethical responsibility of a company to maximize profits for shareholders and investors, your personal ethics might lead you as a manager to promote someone for going “above and beyond” but that doesn’t means it’s the right thing to do for the company.

When it is time to promote, a well business minded employer will promote those who will provide the most additional value for the money. If you have 10 employees, 8 meet their quotas on time, 1 meets their quotas ahead of time, and 1 is doing far more work than any of the others, it makes sense to promote the one who is performing their duties ahead of time instead of the one who uses their time to do even more work.
Promotion happens, I’m not arguing it doesn’t, but it happens out of necessity and it should generally happen in a way which maximizes the profit to company, shareholders, and the investors

I worked my ass off at the lowest factory position because I'm naturally good at... menial factory labour, and enjoy helping people. It made getting my first promotion, with a crazy 50 cent raise, super easy. In the two weeks of this new position, I've gotten in trouble more in than the last 3 years, for doing exactly what I've always done. It feels like I gave the company 200% and my reward was getting spit on.
Depends on the context. My Foster mother is a Clinic Manager, her secretary was working a second job. Where, instead of doing her job as the secretary in a medical clinic, she was doing online work for a second company.
She was slowing the already terribly slow Canadian healthcare system, by not doing her job. Ignoring it for her other online job. In this case, she is stealing company time, and not providing the service you are being paid to do. Shes not facilitating the people in for medical care, not filing the reports, not getting all the work she needs done. All the while shes using that paid company time, to do work for another company. It's time theft.
Now, if all her shit was handled, and she did it off company time [or at least didn't interrupt her on duty responsibilities] thats a different story.
As a software engineer, seen this multiple jobs thing be a pretty big standard for those that have the extra time to work on other projects.

Software Engineers are not paid by the hour unless it's contract work. If it's contract work you just log/bill your hours. Majority of positions are salary and have flexible office hours or work from home. It's more about features, deadlines, and staying on project schedule/getting your shit done.

I work 2 jobs. I'm in IT and in my free time I animate. It's pretty normal in this field. And it's super useful if you are doing other things like animating, coding, anything creative. Really helps you think about better ways to solve problems IMO. The amount of code I've written for animation plugins is ridiculous at this point and I've used it in my normal IT job to really step up my work in both fields.

Depends how your pay is structured. If u are getting paid by hour for 8 hours then they shouldn't have two jobs. All your hours need to be dedicated to your main job. If your pay is structured by contact completion then have at it, get as many jobs u want.
The cited post from the CEO specifically says he's not talking about moonlighting or side hustles. This is specifically about people who are committed to working X number of hours per day for their employer and then dishonestly doing this again with a second employer and only giving each of them half the effort (or perhaps some other distribution, like 60/40).

Then you send the results to some stack holder, wait for a day for his/her response. On top of that, put a code in production requires other people, so if they are occupied, nothing you can do.
If you can fulfill your job requirements while doing that so what? If you can't, then you deserve to be fired. Not for "stealing", just for failing to do the job.

I work multiple freelance/contract jobs at a time but they're in different industries. And if there could be any conflict I speak with the person I'm contracted with before accepting the new contract. Honestly just trying to pay bills, man. Definitely not "stealing".

So full time turned into essentially never leaving. There's burning a candle at both ends and there's being blowtorched. Burn out was brutal.
I learned that when you ask for more work all the time, you're actually setting an expectation that you can work at that rate for the same pay. Sometimes they might give you training for a different role and responsibility and you can position yourself for an eval and raise, but if they're poop people, they will deny that additional experience and value as raise worthy and just micromanage you to work at that optimal level as if they could just hire someone else just as experienced and capable. Best thing to do is keep quiet, and use that extra time to get another job juggled, and appreciate your good time management.

I worked in recruitment for a bank for number of years, mainly recruiting IT contractors. There were clauses in their contract's stating that they won't work for another company whilst they were working for us. Especially if they were working for another bank which is a huge conflict of interest. A lot of them did anyway but it always went all the way bad for them when they were found out.
So an important thing to note about software engineers that most people probably don't realize: Many software engineers do NOT have non-compete clauses in their contracts because of an ethical issue. If a programmer had such a clause and leave the company, they'd have a real tough time finding work else where.
As long as there's not a conflict of interest with you working for a competitor, vendor/partner for your company, etc, then there's literally no reason for them to be fired. I'd be suing, unless they're in an at will state.

@@mage1439 as a software engineer working in corporate America this is the way of things. You have highly specialized work that is paid on salary. That means I'm paid to do a task and thats all my team cares about. If I can get the task done in 4 hours, I go on maintenance mode and am available if issues pop up. If it requires me more than 8 hours I will work overtime to complete what is needed in a given timeframe. Regardless I'm paid to accomplish something not spend an arbitrary amount of time twiddling my thumbs in a cubicle

Both software companies I've worked for had a section in the contract where you agreed to not work for any other companies without clearing it. I presume because they want to make sure the people they're hiring will make sure to prioritize the company during working hours. At the last company, my buddy did some contracting work after hours and the company was cool with it.
Also, Asmon, non compete doesn't mean not working two jobs simultaneously. It means that in case of severance you're not allowed to work the same branch, in the same state (city, what have you) meaning you cannot compete with the firm you've signed with.
this was in reference to people who are actively being (on the clock) at 2 companies durring the same hour I work from home and could do 3 jobs at the same time without them knowing so many companies have started putting checks in place to make this not happen
I honestly agree with the employer. Software engineers are payed over $120k a year for full time. He literally says they had bad performance. They are paid for 8 hours of work and not 4 hours. They don’t finish their task for the day and go home, they have weeks of work lined up to be completed and if you finish a task you should ask for another. Sure if this is McDonald’s I don’t expect you to do other tasks that aren’t your job but when you are a professional it’s entirely different.

We were three people restocking the cold cut section, and it took me 2 hours longer than if I had done it alone. Some of these engineer jobs come with contracts stating that you can’t take up work with another company that does the same job for at least 2 years if you’re employed with the current company. This typically happens with apprenticeships or companies that hire engineers without experience or formal background and then train them. On paper this is to prevent you from “stealing” the training you received that was paid for by the company, but in practice it kinda just locks you in to the company for however long the contract specifies.
@@zachjackel well usually you get these jobs because you already have a strong knowledge base of the work being done, so the training itself isn’t exactly valuable. The training probably won’t secure you a job at another company, but the experience potentially can, and the training and non compete agreement does secure you a job with the initial company-thereby providing that experience which can be used to secure a second job.
It’s ultimately the price of playing the game; if you don’t have the money for formal training, and find an opportunity to skip the 4 years of education it might just be worth selling your soul for x amount of years. It’s not a perfect deal, but for many people it is a better deal than they ever would’ve gotten elsewhere.

blows my mind how it seems like no1 is realizing that this was people simultaneously working two jobs remotely. aka they were working 40 hours a week, and putting in timecards for 40 hours to two companies when they were likely only putting in 20 hours worth of work to each company. It is no different than if you were working a single job, only working 20 hours, and inflating your timecard to say you worked 40.
Here in Ontario, an employer is not allowed to prevent you from working for a competitor at the same time. Any contract you sign with a non-competition clause in it is automatically void. Ontario banned non-compete clauses on December 2, 2021.

He has every right to be mad about everything you said and if that’s what those people did, then they were justifiably fired. But his message was not really about the points you outlined. His issue was with how some people are not 100% dedicated to their employer and instead spend some of their time working for another employer. It’s a general statement about “you’re cheating on me with another employer, you’re a bad person”. And that’s profoundly narcissistic and petty. Had he kept his message to a simple: “FYI if you work for two employers simultaneously and you do a bad job at one of the companies you work for, then prepare yourself to be fired by said company”, it would have been appropriate. But he went on to make general statements about employees needing to be fully committed to their employers under moral pretenses, when what he really means is that, as the CEO, his employees implicitly owe him their undivided attention and time, and they implicitly are supposed to be subjugated to him and his company. I think that if you list all of the companies you are an angel investor for alongside your employment information, there is an automatic implication that you provide more than just capital for those companies. There would be no purpose to listing them otherwise, unless he is lying or trying to mislead the reader. Josh's point stands.

And it's not the investment itself that holds the implication, it's the context in which he lists it. Why would you list a bunch of companies you just threw money at and don't actually control to some degree? I can guarantee if those companies started losing him money this guy would be all over them in a heartbeat.
@@ChickenPizza I would expect he got shares of the company but having 20% A shares doesn't really mean anything. Just like me having 10,000 B shares doesn't mean I own any appreciable amount in a company. Chances are the company founders will own a controlling share of the stocks and have full say.

The issue is they were working 2 jobs at the same time, IE on the clock at both jobs at the same time.
This happens ALL THE TIME with engineers. Usually it is just contract/temp work for small jobs. But the second you want to have 2 steady incomes, everyone gets all butthurt.
I don’t understand why someone would have an issue with this. As long as you’re performing the duties expected of you (for all your jobs), then why not? Have as many jobs as you can at once (so long as you remain a good employee)

Companies like to peddle the whole family thing, which i find true. They're an abusive family that while you're gone they start to miss you, but when you're there they will do everything to make your life miserable.

I avoid those jobs. All "family" means to them, is an expendable resource. I remember working for a company like that. The owner/manager was a drunk prick that was abusive to his employees. Well, he hadn't done anything to me yet, and everybody quit. I was running around for months, doing everybody's job. Me, the reptile guy, running small animals aquatics, product ordering and setting up promotions. I was falling on some hard times, my lizard got sick and I needed some extra money for the vet and I asked for a raise. I was told to just shut up and do my job, even though that clown had refused to hire more people. I just know reptiles, but had to learn how to run an entire store on the fly, because they wanted to pay a dude minimum wage to do an entire floor staff worth of work. Yeah, "family" lmao.

I think most people are fundamentally misunderstanding the CEO's statement. When he says "working two full-time synchronous jobs", he isn't meaning the conventional linear sense where you clock in to one job for 8 hours and then leave and go to your other job and clock in for another 8 hours for a total of a 16 hour work day. He means you clock in to two jobs simultaneously (synchronously) for 8 hours, for a total of an 8 hour work day, basically double dipping. I think this is stealing, because both employers are paying their shared employee with the implicit expectation that they are going to give their undivided time and attention for the time that they are clocked in, but really they're giving their divided time and attention and still reaping a full paycheck from both employers. And if it's talking about salaried work, it's the same problem. In the age of remote work where you don't have to go into an office and show face, it becomes possible to do something like this.

I think that your experience working for the government was an outlier. Every job I've worked at will always find something for you to do once you've completed your normal tasks. They'll just half train you for something else and demand you do it. I'd love to just be able to focus on completing the assigned task and take a break afterwards.
I think it should be illegal for a company to contact you outside of work hours and be able to fire over not wearing a uniform.
That's fair. If they signed a non-competition agreement to work exclusively for that company, I get it. I wish these companies understood that putting food on the table comes before honoring a piece of paper I signed.

You're missing the part where these people are "clocked in" and reporting the same hours to both companies. They aren't getting fired for working two jobs, they are getting fired for committing fraud by claiming time they are working for another company as time worked for their other job.
They didn't get fired for working two jobs, they got fired for reporting the same hours worked to two different companies when they only worked half the time. It's fraud, and in many places it's illegal and you can go to jail for it.
Some companies have a no moonlighting clause.
I would also say working overlaping hours is questionable.
I assume the "theft" is if you have 2 jobs and you're clocked in at both and working both at the same time, you can't commit your time to one while you're working on the other.

This is very common in southamerica. Here in Chile as a software engineer almost all contracts have a non-compete clause, that's because it's suppose to prevent sensible information leaks, but in reality it's because you're supposed to spend 8 hours and being productive at your company's tasks, it doesnt matter if you're super productive and actually you do your job in half of the time, they pay you by the hour and they will "reward you" with more work, same salary. People is not as productive on purpose because they know that's gonna happen and if you can't get another job you rather do just the minimum effort just to not be as stressful taking long ass breaks or playing videogames in between, as long as you do your job within the deadline. That's why companies wants everyone back in the office, because you need that micromanagement to prevent all those things.
That's why people leave, being productive at home is a punishment so you're punished with being back at the office, and more work, doesn't matter if what you do is profitable enough for the company, you should always do more if you can, doesn't matter if you burn your ass out.
It's ironic for a CEO to say that, as wage theft by companies has been robbing workers even worse than actual burglars for a while now.

Part of the problem comes from how you charge your billable time. If you are charging 60 man-hours to a job, you cannot bill those same 60 man-hours to another job.
When you're on the clock, the company expects you give 100% of your attention to that job
Angel investor implies someone who cash dumps into a company for an expected return, it can imply voting rights, a board seat ect, but even if it did, thats generally a limited position (a few hours a month) depending on the type of company involved.
