I wonder if he believed that 2 is his lucky number: he played Beethoven's sonata, Brahms' sonata, Tchaikovsky's piano concerto, and Brahms piano concerto, ALL No. 2s!!! LOL What a magnificent musician. Brahms, in particular, among many other composers he has played, must be so proud of him in Heaven. I've never heard these two Brahms works performed so RICH and LYRICAL, so ORGANIC, ORGASMIC almost! Hahaha
Chopin, Saint Saens, Prokofiev, Liszt concertos 2, and they’re all marvelous performances! Number 2 is truly crowned to him, a musician with full of depth, colors..
Staggeringly great playing, as was his earlier round too. How anyone only 22 years of age could play with such maturity and depth of understanding is hard to fathom!
In music, maturity and age are two different avenues, seemingly. Nothing more breathtaking as a musically mature young musician ... Think of the young years of Zoltan Kocsis, for instance, of Gulda, of Sultanov ... Is there any more maturity after that ? Or loss ?
Not very many pianists can be convincing in Brahms. But Alexandre Kantorow is not only convincing but plays Brahms exceeding well, and at a young age too!
Kantorow The weakest Tchaikovsky competition Winner Ever! The greatest pianists of All Time Are really Artur Rubinstein Grigory Sokolov Emil Gilels Wilhelm Kempff Maurizio Pollini Sviatoslav Richter Radu Lupu Mikhail Pletnev Vladimir Ashkenazy Alexei Lubimov Stanislav Igolinsky Solomon Cutner Maria Grinberg Natalia Trull Rosa Tamarkina Ekaterina Novitskaya Dimitri Bashkirov Andrei Gavrilov Victor Eresko
The Shigeru is an amazing piano, probably the best today, hence why Alex picked it in the competition. Argerich and Pletnev play on them from now on aswell
The piano sonata n. 2 was dedicated to Clara Wieck, wife of Robert Schumann, brilliant pianist and composer herself. Between Brahms and Clara, probably, there was a love relationship, expecially after Schumann's death.

@@tangistanguy I was fortunate to see Sultanov play live exactly once, in Carmel, CA, not long after his Cliburn win. He was stunning.
Oui! J'aime Brahms! Merci, Alexandre. But his Firebird is mesmerizing and beyond spectacular!

Can’t believe how clear his tone is. Even on a shigeru kawai! it’s just amazing.

@@alexanderpower2195 By the time he starts with Faure, it is already out of tune...
A good Shigeru which this one clearly is is a magnificent beast. The equal of anti reckon.
