    "Look, he has your eyes..."
    "They are full of fear."
    A lot of people seem to misinterprit the meaning of this line.
    The Batter simply states that Hugo's eyes, unlike The Batter's, are full of fear.
    I remember seeing RecDra, the english translator, mention something like that.
    The original version of the line is, apparently,
    "Look, he has your eyes..."
    "His are full of fear."

      Vengonva I've played the French version, and this is indeed true, except it's more akin to 'his eyes are frightened' rather than 'his eyes are full of fear', but that's a minor nit-pick. I can go replay and make a screenshot of the scene. :P

    [SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN'T FINISHED OFF YET.]
    Call me insane, but honestly, would the Zones be better off if they were left as they were? We've got Dedan *(the ruler of Zone 1)* who lost his kindness and ended up being bitter and even abusive to his people, Japhet *(the ruler of Zone 2)* who lost faith in his people and ended up condemning them all through the spectres (which made matters worse for everyone), Enoch *(the ruler of Zone 3)* who literally thought of himself as a god and controled his people to work through sugar (a.k.a a cannibal's edible cocaine), Vader Eloha *(the Queen)* who watched the world corrupt like this and didn't even do anything about it, and Hugo *(possibly the world's GOD)* who had to go through watching his friends become mad due to his sickness. Basically, we _purified_ a world that was _already corrupt_ in the first place. When you think about it, I think what the Batter's mission was to be a sort-of failsafe for when Hugo became sick. The bad thing was that the world became so disordered that the Batter ended up being not a failsafe, but an emergency _OFF SWITCH._

      One interpretation I have makes me think that's kind of what the battle was supposed to represent. In this interpretation, I feel the game was sort of the imagination of a scared, isolated, sickly little boy with an abusive father and a loving but distant mother. The child knows he is dying and is terrified by the way his parents fight; just hearing your parents yelling at each other the next room over can feel like this huge, horrible battle to the death. Uh… you know, something like that.

      +Yamsmos Not really anyone's fault for misunderstanding. It was pretty ambiguous from what I hear in the English version, so if people played that rather than the French one I do not blame them in the least. I can't really even call it a misinterpretation on the reader's fault but a careless choice of words from the translators.

This fight stirs parts of my heart that I wish could be in a perfect cyclone of a soul, harmonious. I enjoyed this fight so much. I found the relationship between the Batter and the Queen so intriguing...
    We know they have something in beetwen, as the Batter claims to her for not taking care of Hugo, is hurt by her words on the battle and stills acts a bit melancholic, even trying to console her at the end. "It all went wrong, time to forget it and have sweet dreams"
    Is not a typical dramatical and victorious phrase that the hero would say to their worst enemy when defeat them. Is sad, and hurts deep inside when you remember that, in other circunstainces, they could work togheter to fix the world, to help little Hugo or at least, spend good moments with him for the remaining time, but thats not gonna happen.
    They both were being selfish, only thinking on them and what THEY wanted. "... So busy preparing the birthday party, that we forgot who was for". And now is everything or nothing. An suffering existence or the void.
    I dont think they hate each other, and i dont think Batter really likes to kill the Queen, or Hugo. In the game, that was his purpose and only option, and in the story, their ideas were so different one from another that, on his desesperation, it was the only way he could find to fix everything.

    • @mrreyes5004

      I would agree. Their dialogue implies that the Batter and Queen used to have some kind of close relationship (maybe lovers, maybe not), but they eventually fell apart and their different ideas for how to handle the world's corruption resulted in this tragic final fight. Neither seemed to truly want to kill each other, but it had to be this way.

    This game was the first one i’ve actually sat down and gave my full attention to, and damn was it worth it. i actually cried at the end of both endings (MAJOR SPOILERS), first when The Batter pulled the switch and killed The Judge, then again when i had to fight The Batter’s true form as The Judge. seeing The Judge wandering through the purified zones was sad enough, but paired with his calling for his dead brother and the end music it was too much. i even cried when i killed Sugar, the secret boss in zone 0. instead of fading away, her bloody corpse just lay there. even her final words, something about telling Zacharie goodbye, hit me hard. i got attached to the characters in a way that no other game had achieved. overall, this game is incredible.

    I've read quite a few comments about how we as the puppeteer are at fault, sure go ahead blame us "the player" this still does not change the fact that Hugo is sick and most likely dying! Even with everything that is in the world he is stuck in a small room he senses who is defeated when the batter "purifies" them. We look at the batter or at ourselves as the evil ones we will never truly know who is at true fault hence why this makes it so much better then what we are looking at. The big picture is that we can come up with as many theories as we like and we can choose the theory that we like the most. No one person is wrong or right unless that person is MortisGhost. It is most likely safe to assume that he will never tell though

      +398cecilio I haven't played this game, and out of all the vids I've basically only seen all the endings. So I think I can make some sort of judgment that, at least, is unbiased about the endings. Spoilers...
      The first point I'd like to make is within the differences between the final battles. The Batter, despite going out of his way to slaughter everyone deemed "impure" inculding whole families, still seemed to have something that the Judge did not: a sense of clarity. Batter saw Judge as Judge would see himself; the opposite was certainly not true if you compared both scenes. Combine that with Judge's strange attacks and you start to wonder how mentally unstable he was. How much of that came down to what he knew, particularly with the 4th wall and the puppeteer, and the consequences of such knowledge, we may never know.
      The other point comes down to the endings. Batter's ending sees what I imagine to be reality as it's known to be changed, along with everything with it. Of course I can't tell you what that reality would be. But which realities would be worse than one that remains corrupted (?) and with almost nobody left to experience it?
      Either reality to me sounds bleak in their own right. It makes me wonder if Ape ending was Best ending (don't hate me for that comment).

    I have found a great explanation [please don't be rude to me, since It's not mine] that I completely agree with. Won't ever be deterred from this. Forgot who it was from, but it was a #2fab UA-cam commenter. Ilysm.
    "(MAJOR SPOILER) Easy, because if you pay attention in The Room you will find the pages of Hugo's diary.
    He refers to the Batter as 'Papa' and to the Queen as 'Mama'.
    When you go throughout the chapters of The Room you will find out that Hugo is very sick, probably terminally ill caused by the smoke.
    The Batter made Hugo take pills so he could get better, Hugo also mentioned The Queen was almost never around.
    When you meet with the pure Guardians Dedan says the Queen is a 'very important and busy person',
    thus he'd be referring she can take proper care of Hugo as she is reconstructing the world.
    So, who was taking care of Hugo? The Batter, he did all he could to cure Hugo but again, apparently he was terminally ill.
    The Batter possibly loved Hugo as his father and as his child
    (Hugo created The Queen and The Batter possibly in need of parental figures).
    He couldn't keep seeing the little one suffering, he could have felt remorse towards the Queen for not taking proper care of Hugo.
    He then could have decided to purify the world,
    kill the guardians of the world the Queen reconstructed, take revenge on her,
    kill his son/father to keep him from suffering anymore and by last
    killing himself and any other living being in the world by pulling the switch OFF.
    More proof that the Batter did this because 'If Hugo can't live then no one else can':
    -He gave Hugo the Music Box and Panic in Ballville
    -The soundtrack of the battle with the Queen is called The Meaning of his Tears, referring to the Batter.
    The Batter apparently was crying when he battled the Queen.
    -After he defeated the Queen she said "Look, he has your eyes" and The Batter replies: "They're full of fear".
    The Batter was terrified, terrified of battling Hugo, terrified of killing himself and everyone else by pulling the switch.
    -When you kill Hugo the last thing he says is "I'm scared of the dark" and Batter replies with
    "From now on there will be no more darkness". The Batter was trying to comfort Hugo.
    It is up to you to judge his actions, I see them just and I share with you the why.?"

      Pablo's role as the Judge is litteraly to see if the player wants to either save the 99% purified world, or end it by playing Batter and smashing the only thing that could save the Off world.
      So, it is our judgement to say " I want to save the world " or " I want to end this world " , but by ending it, we end a world of eternal suffering, it seems...

      beautiful theory ! thanks for sharing !
      I kind of agree. I never thought the batter was an evil guy taking his beliefs as a pretext to destroy.
      I've got another theory, idk what you'd think about it :
      ////// WARNING : MAJOR-MAJOR SPOILEEEEERS !!!!//////
      ////
      //
      Hugo is sick before the creation of the OFF world. he uses his imagination to figure things out (many children do that ), so, when he is told that his sickness is really bad, he imagines that his imaginary world is invaded by spectres.
      the queen may be an imaginary representation of his real mother.
      his father was the one who gave him the ballman comics and the music box.
      the real hugo is given a medication by his father, who tells him that the drug will fight the sickness.
      Hugo imagines that a batter (representation of his father?) starts fighting the specters.
      however the medication only makes the pain worse, the child thinks his imaginary world is being destroyed (death of the guardians and the queen who were keeping him safe)
      he finally dies of the brain plague, or because the drug wasn't suitable. (the batter ends up beating him... )
      //
      ///
      ///////////END OF SPOILER///////////

    From everything I looked at. I came up with my point of view. I see no good and evil in this. I interpreted that Hugo is a sick and near-dead child that feels lonely and so he created the Batter and the Queen to keep him company. I do not know what happened prior the game but i can see that the Queen was building a kingdom with the help of 3 guardians. However, time goes by and they forgot what their purpose were and the world become corrupted. The Batter see no good in this and also doesn't't want the child to hold on painfully like this and decide to purify it. In the fight with the Queen, Batter said that "you were busy preparing the birthday party while forgetting who it really for". They were supposed to make a happy funhouse for Hugo but instead turning it to world domination and chaos. They also seem to care less for the child. The Batter want to turn OFF everything because he thinks it's better that way. He killed Hugo and assure that " From now on, there will be no more darkness". It's painful for him yet he have to do it. He doesn't't want Hugo to continue suffering. I will not judge about Good and Evil in this because it's all up to people's interpretation. After all, what really matter? What is right or wrong? What is the meaning of pure?

    • @killingfeveronline_archives
      @killingfeveronline_archives 9 років тому +19

      That is a very interesting thought.
      Hugo created the world, thinking it would all be good. He assigned the duties of guardians to three utopists. However, he didn't take their competence in mind.
      All of the guardians failed their duties one way or the other, and the fact that almost all of them turned against their own people means that the world would've been plunged into total chaos, with or without the batter.
      Perhaps all elsen are stricken with some wicked sickness transforming them into horrifying mutants that is triggered by intense stress. It's unclear whether or not Elsen are actually human and if Hugo is able to create more Elsens, however, meaning that there's no chance for Humanity to survive in this world.
      Perhaps there is still hope for The Judge ending, though.
      Maybe The Judge will be able to find the power of creation in the completely devastated world, and attempt to create his own utopia.
      All of this is the biggest reason why I think that "Hugo is in coma and we're going through his mind" theory is kind of lame. It's much more interesting to think of the world of OFF as either a seperate universe or a post-apocalyptic setting of our world.

    A thing:
    Remember Zone 3? Well, if you explore it when is pure you will find an Elsen (The only elsen) and he will say something like:
    "No spectres, no people, no colors. I forever safe."
    The zone is pure. Is safe. And that is Batter's mision.
    His mision is make this world pure. Even if that mean kill it. He don't care about Elsens, he don't care about nothing
    "We were so busy preparing the birthday party that we forgot who it was for"
    That describes all Batter's mision. But yes, its insane

    All this talk of motive and reasons.. If we all remember, even in the end, the Judge blames us, the puppeteers, not the puppet, aka "the one beyond the eyes of the cat". The Batter has no way of defying the strings we control, yet we did NOTHING to stop this mad crusade of purifying everything impure. To the batter, and this you who control him, what is safer than absolute nothingness, that goes for Hugo, both son and creator of the Batter. Even moreso, what is our motive for wishing such destruction? Vengence? Revenge? On who? For what? Why?

    • @towerknight5012

      Motive? That can be summed up easily on our part:
      Entertainment.
      To Reach the end.
      With no such consideration as to the one we control because to us the lives we blindly take away, the world that we reduce to the precipice of nothingness is naught but a game.

      Hence, nothing remains except

      our
      regrets.
      But as much as you deny it,
      Escaping form your
      purpose
      is
      inevitable.
      We, the puppeteer, are the true enemies. We guided the batter to 'purify' the world and we have regrets fully growned at the final battle,even during the battle you have to pick one or the other and both brings you regrets.
      (spoiler alert) during the end, you have two choices: fight along The Judge to kill The Batter or fight along The Batter to kill the judge.You have unintentionally, yet successfully, destroyed the world and want to kill The Batter yet, you can not. You have been with the batter from the meat factories to Bismark to Enoch to eventually The Queen herself so, you just can't kill him. Either decision you chose, there is some form of regret. If you decide to fight along The Judge and kill The Batter, nothing remains except for our regrets and the remains of a destroyed world. If you decide to fight along The Batter and Kill the Judge then, you have succeded the mission and have 'purified' everything. But in the end, you can't deny it that you, the puppeteer, the player, are the true enemies behind it all. That is why if you pick The Judge's ending, The Judge says "Hence nothing remains except for our regrets" after the final fight. BUT HEY, THAT IS ALL A THEORY! A GAME THE- oops wrong channel...

    i see everyone arguing about "you are the villan because you controlled the batter". i mean, yeah, sure, but it's actually not what i see. i played the original vertion of the game, and a sentence maintain my attention : "L'opaque brouillard de la trame sénaristique est elle une excuse pour tuer femme et enfant?" which i translate it as "is the opaque fog of a story an excuse to kill woman/wife and child?". I think this question isn't about us and this game, but more us and every game, or even our daily life : let's take an exemple with an other game, undertale. In this game, you have the choice. The choice to kill everyone, or no one, or some monster. You are the one in control of the game, but is the fact that you can kill everyone is an excuse to do a genocide run? it's not because you have *the possiblity to do it you have to*. it actually question you about your moral.
    in off,it begins with the batter telling you that you have to help him with is misson. pretty classicle for a game, right? zacharie is here as a merchand "because every rpg needs a merchand to gets new stuff". this game actually remind you that your actions are somehow non important, since we are in a game. and then, when finish the game, the question is here. you did what they told you to. but, is it the right thing? when i said "even daily life", i meaned when everyone is telling you to do one thing, is it really the right thing to do? did you think about it? i think the game has a lesson, but i can't explain it ><
    also, well, yeah, this game got me in a psycological way, i couldn't stand killing hugo, since he's innocent :c

      There are plenty of indications that "purification" isn't what it seems. Makes you kind of wonder who is to blame, the Batter who wanted to do it, or the player who unintentionally controlled him into killing his wife and kid? The way I see it, everything in their world is morally ambiguous. There is no "right or wrong".

      seg162 We can see that as The Batter's limited control over your actions.
      The true puppeteer here is The Batter himself. HE is the one who makes us belive we're doing good. HE'S the one who proclaimed the guardians "spectres", when they aren't. He controlled us through dialogue and made us belive we are saving the world until his reveal at the final battle.
      Heck, some curious players might've caught on to The Batter's evil intentions after purifying Zone 1, and they STILL went through and helped him achieve his demented wishes simply because of entertainment.
      OFF is amazing in how it portrays US, the players, in a bad way. Our desire to see everything through to the end meant destroying the fictional world time and time again.

  • @LilxPipi
    @LilxPipi 11 років тому +11

    That really makes me think that all the "spectres" that the Batter encounters might just be people. Whenever he enters a new area, the Elsens always think he's a spectre for some reason until he justifies himself. I think every character's appearance is in the eye of the beholder.

    This is my favorite song in the game. SO SO GOOD.
    Alright, since everyone's all speculating in the comments, I'll give my two cents on the whole "WHOSE FAULT IS IT" debate.
    I hate to bring Undertale up, but I swear it's related to OFF and it helps my argument. HEAVY SPOILERS for both games below btw.
    I don't think the PLAYER can be considered a villain in OFF in the same way that you can with Undertale. Undertale you can pull that argument off very very well because in that game you get the CHOICE. But in OFF I feel as if the player is just one more victim of the Batter. He is manipulating you into doing the things he wants to do. There's even that moment at the end where he tries to tell you not to go with the Judge. Cause he NEEDS you. So he misleads you into doing what he wants you to do.
    Though you don't know the exact details of what it means to kill monsters in Undertale, the consequences and such, it's still pretty freaking clear from the beginning that the monsters are benign and actually quite lovable and are in a very tough position. It's quite obvious that killing the monsters is the EVIL/WRONG thing to do.
    Meanwhile in OFF it's sort of a nightmarish landscape with odd and scary beings all over the place. The Batter claims he is here to purify the world. And the word purify is always used in a positive context in real life. So without any more information, it's safe to assume we were doing the right thing... In fact, I didn't even begin to doubt the Batter's intentions until we got to that one corrupted Elsen that didn't attack and just screamed HELP over and over again. Before that moment, there was no other real indication that the Batter was a merciless destroyer of worlds (oh also if you go back to a Zone after purifying it...that was also a very big red flag...).
    And even then it's not until the very, very end that you get a choice...though honestly the choices you're given are shitty ones and pretty much comes down to just doing the right thing for the sake of doing the right thing even if it doesn't make one lick of difference.
    So it's like Undertale if there never was Frisk and you're only Chara and there was no ACT or MERCY button. You can't really blame the player then.
    One of the reasons I love Undertale so much is that I feel like it's a lot like OFF, but with choices and a more concrete storyline. OFF is abstract with abstract imagery and themes. It's hard to really pin down with any real certainty what any of it means and more times than not you cannot even ask the creator for answers since they probably never came up with any answers to begin with, leaving it open to interpretation on purpose (AND OMG DOES IT PISS ME OFF WHEN STORYTELLERS DO THAT SHIT ...Toby you do this too, you little shit...).
    Ahem. There. Have an essay no one asked for. ...I'm just putting off work XDDD

      +Amber J. Gardner i just cleared the game early this month and i gotta say, i don´t see why people asociate it with undertale so much, Off has a pretty intricated and surreal story while UT pretty much spells out everything that´s going on.
      Regarding the story, i think it´s more about a sick child, and a father coping with a decision to "off" him so he suffers no longer.

    • @angelicambyence
      @angelicambyence 8 років тому +14

      MANNLIERMANNCO OFF is too abstract to determine anything concrete like that. I could also say it's about a kid with powers that has survived the apocalypse and created a new world and in the end, created the batter to kill himself to end his own suffering, and honestly it would still fit.
      UT is intricate in its own way with its SAVE and LOAD themes. For me, what reminded me the most of OFF was the music (Ghost Fight, and the atmospheric music during a genocide run), the backgrounds (especially The Ruins and The Capital), some of the bizarre creatures (Omega Flowey and the amalgamates) and the fact that at the end of genocide you can destroy the world, much like OFF.
      Also let's not forget that in both, it's heavily implied that there is a Player by the game that has a choice to do the right thing or the bad thing, probably the biggest similarity and why I used it in my comment.

    • @MANNLIERMANNCO
      @MANNLIERMANNCO 8 років тому +5

      Amber J. Gardner
      Yeah i guess they´re pretty relatable in the sense that they acknowledge the player´s existance, but apart from that i can´t really compare the two.
      Also. I read somewhere that the translation for OFF was a bit... "off". for example, in the ending where the queen states that she and the batter are Hugo´s parents, aparently in french the she said they were his creation, not viceversa.
      Soooooo yeah i think i´ll stop triying to crack the story, it´s borderline imposible when you combine surrealism with mistranslation.
      But anyways i think UT>OFF in many ways. I don´t really get why they call it a "gem" tbh.
      Love the music tough :D
      i´ll stop typing now...

    I have to say, this is my favorite song from OFF. There is so much emotion conveyed into this - it's the kind of song that makes you feel bad for the villain... Except there are no heroes, and both the Queen and Batter are villains in their own right. The Queen, of course, letting her zones degenerate into disrepair through the spectres, while the Batter, of course, is eradicating all life as we know it. Perhaps the meaning of his tears is that both of his parental figures have become twisted extremes, failing him in opposite ways.

    A lot of people says that you, the Puppeteer are the bad of the game, and that The Batter is a mere puppet, because you control it and you decide his actions , but I think that the Batter is the true villain of the story.
    At the beginning The Batter says that he has a "sacred mission", and in the end, when The Judge comes and talk to you, The Batter says that he "Needs you to purify the world". What does this mean? The Batter always knew the meaning of his mission, he agreed with your bad choices and actions. Yeah, in the end you know that you make a horrible mistake and destroyed the most part of the world. You can repent of your actions and join The Judge to kill The Batter, but you don't force The Batter to do a thing he doesn't want to do,without knowing the seriousness of your actions, you helped The Batter to accomplish his terrible mission. The Batter is the TRUE villain, and you, from ignorance, are only his accomplice. But still, I think that The Batter did nothing wrong purifying the world, a world that was rotten to the core and where his rulers became crazy and forgot his objectives.

    I really feel sorry for The Queen, but if you think about it, honestly, she was the one that started it all. Like the Batter said, her job was to take care of Hugo, but she failed, because she was too busy creating and organizing all the different Zones, something that should have been done with much more attention. Because of her, The Batter had to destroy it all. That's the job of The Batter. To end it all in case The Queen fails. But was it really the right time to do that? Or maybe the world still wasn't completely messed up? That's the real question here. Create or destroy?

    Actually there is a lot that can deciphered from the game and Mortis Ghosts's posts on deviantART. First is that their so called "son", Hugo, is a human. While the Batter & Queen are not. Mortis himself said that. Another thing to take notice of is that while confronting The Queen, The Batter called The Room the "cradle of his father". This heavily implies that Hugo made the Batter & Queen so as not to be lonely. Not to mention that like the guardians, when Hugo is purified, so is The Room.

    I think the spectres are physical manifestations of PTSD gone wrong. The world ended, I'm sure you'd have some trauma after that.
    The Burnts are Elsens that gone mad with grief or rage and just "snap" and become hostile (thus the one that goes Burnt in front of you and even goes "KABLOOSH!". The exception is Critic Burnt, but that could just be a strange translation for "Critically Burnt" so the Batter just "puts him down", for the lack of a better word.

    I wouldn't hold my breath on a translation update though.
    My assumption is that Hugo represents reality and innocence, and that he first made the Queen to try and save the world, but the damage done to the survivors (Elsen) and the world around it (which was mostly fake now, like plastic for water) was so great that it was just a band-aid fix.
    He then made the Batter to help "purify" the world and fix his mistake.
    Hugo's death was the world losing it's innocence due to the calamity.

    Wait wait wait. If Hugo made that world, doesn't that mean that Hugo is like God? Or God himself...? Batter, who is like human (Hugo's creation), is aware of evil existing in this world. Other people (elsens?) see it too, but are too afraid to do something about it. So they live in constant fear... Batter decides to purify it by turning is OFF... O_o Eh, uh... Don't mind me.

    No. Those tears are the tears of a man who sees the truth. He has seen the world for what it is, for what life is like in there. Addicted freaks, living in a shitty world filled with plastic, meat, life had no meaning. Everyone was either scared, ignorant, or psychopathic.
    He went through hell.
    And in order to fix this world, to stop people from living like this, to stop such a disgusting abomination of a world, he had to turn it OFF.
    He is The Batter. And he was on a sacred Mission.

    theres a few things about the batter some people seem to forget
    - he was a puppet
    - after announcing his mission he grants the player with nearly complete control over the his body
    - he never completely controlled his actions
    - the batter had no way of knowing that what he was going to do would cause so much chaos
    - the batter was afraid
    - the batter was very afraid
    - the batter ADMITTED to being afraid
    - the batter had emotions, many emotions
    - zacharie didnt care about the batter, only the player
    - batterie is just as likely as battnoch (not very likely)
    - the batter cared about hugo
    - the batter loved hugo like a son
    - hugo never loved the batter back
    - the batter tried to be the hero
    - the batter
    - was
    - afraid
    and there we have it

    • @reeba4824
      @reeba4824 10 років тому +5

      Well just because someone is afraid doesn't make them any less bad. BUT, I do understand that you say he didn't have complete control. So with that being said, would that mean that The Player was the one that was bad? And if so, was The Judge wrong when telling The Player to go against The Batter at the end? Like he didn't realize "you" were the bad guy the whole time? (Which actually can be contradicted since The Batter even said to go through with it.)
      As a third idea, are you perhaps saying that something else was controlling The Batter besides The Player? Because, as much as I love The Batter, I can only see him as a villain (depending on interpretation of the whole story I suppose) since they never stated that there was another person in control.

    • @oshmkufa
      @oshmkufa 10 років тому +25

      You can't exactly say the player (you) were in control..
      From what I can see, the Batter is in control of his goals and motives, whilst the player is in control of _how_ he executes the actions required to meet those goals. You can't choose whether to fight the Queen or not; and I swear, I really didn't want to; but you can control how to defeat her.

      @@deltathedummy2303 Dedan was still doing his job the best compared to the others. While Japhet got the spectres to turn against his own people, and Enoch made his Elsens become a slave to sugar, Dedan did daily checkups to make sure the place wasn't falling apart, and also to get rid of any spectres that were messing with the Elsens. He even guesses the Batter's "holier than thou" motive correctly just from his actions. The worst he did was yell at people and look like a typical rpg boss monster.
      Get rid of Japhet and Enoch if you wish, but keep Dedan and his first zone.

    Insanity? There is a difference between knowing what you are doing and being crazy. Whether you find it good or bad for your morals The Batter is not crazy or insane. He actually had a reason or a mission to accomplish. Since Hugo made The Batter & The Queen from the beginning, The Queen seems to have neglected him to rebuild the zones as her "nation". But the nation became corrupt. The Elsens had to work to even have smoke to breath. The zones couldn't support life on their own without Elsens.

    I don't know what it is, but when games have final boss music that's like... Somber and soft like this, it's just so much more intense than when the final boss has huge music. Another prime example being Dark Souls here, with Gwyn's theme.
