Great review. My friend sells Yamaha and stopped stocking the DXR because the DBR would sell over the DXR when he played a side by side demo for his customers. The DXR is better but not by much. For the price, you can’t beat the DBRs. Yamaha purchased NEXO and you can tell they put their new engineers to work.
I think I paid $350 each for a pair back when Guitar Center had a crazy sale. These compare very well to the Mackie SRM450's first generation. If you look at the promo video from Yamaha there is a guy who goes over the construction of the DBR series and they put foam tape on not only the grille but also the inside of the front cover where it mates to the cabinet. That is attention to detail that keeps this sounding clean without any rattles! I use these for side fills or DJ monitors when my DSR112's are running mains duty.
Great review Lee. I have the DBR10's and compared to the ZLX12 BT, the Yamaha is cleaner and really sounds great. And Yamaha went the extra mile with an internal cooling fan to keep the expensive parts running cool. Alone or coupled with a sub, Yamaha is the way to go.
thx so much for the information extremely informative..i think we will buy these for stage monitors we have 3 10's now but need a few bigger monitors you rock brother thx...looks like your building a nice studio down there too!
I am right now between DBR12 - ZLX12 - Eon712, I want them for outdoor party. which one in your opinion has a fuller bass and is better overall? I want to add some sub in the future
Merci Beaucoup mon ami. J'est repondre en anglais... I have both the DBR12 and DBR15. The DBR15 is loud but the bass lacks a punch. I just bought two RCF 15" tops to replace them. But the DBR12 is a phenomenal 12" speaker that is also loud and can go head to head against most other 12" tops. It is very versatile. If you need more bass just add a subwoofer.
DBR 12 for sure. It blows the ZLX-12P out of the water from a sound perspective. The ZLX-12P is better looking with more advanced design and convience options but I sold them to get 4 Yamaha DBR12. Very loud with great bass response.
Hi Peter, Pro tip: you never want to play anything, speakers, amps, mixers, at max volume due to possible distortion. Also, it depends on the event. I've done a house party of 50 people with two speakers and no sub comfortably. I could've have probably stretched it to 100 by keeping the speakers up high on a pole. You can definitely do more people if it's not a party situation, like a speech, wedding ceremony, or cocktail hour.
@@djhd3000 thank you, also I'm interested in knowing if its actually 131db or is it just an advertising technique, in conclusion I can get away with around 70 people with just one ? (House party)
@@petarcholakov9352 yes. Without a doubt. These speakers are very loud with a lot of headroom. I'm impressed especially because of the price.... By the way. The scenarios I mentioned above are for teo speakers. Not 1. I definitely wouldn't do 75 people with only 1 speaker.
@@djhd3000 how do they compare to the qsc k12 since they are also listed at 131db, I just want to get a very powerful speaker and feel the base and if its worth spending more money for the dxr12 mkii
@@petarcholakov9352 I can't speak on the DXR because I have not heard them play. But I have heard the QSC K12.2 and it seems that the DBR12 has more bass. I played several indoor house parties with them and it was plenty of bass. A sub is always better but these were great! If it were me, I would only get the QSCs because of the image that goes along with the name. As far as performance, I am not missing anything. I even bought a second pair, so now I have 4 of DBR12s.
I gotta say brother, Great straight up real life practical reviews from a DJ, for the DJ

i agree. yamaha is the truth
i have the dxr10 and i have more confident in them than any other my previous 15 tops
you wont go wrong with yamaha

I don't need max volume. which has better mids/ low end, DBR10 or 12?
DBR12 for sure. It has a fuller and richer sound.
Is if normal for the fan to be running all the time in these speakers?
I noticed instantly the Yamaha is much cleaner.

Did you manage to come to a conclusion..wondering similar
appreciates the review! Very informative.
My pleasure!
Hi, how many people can handle of two this.. thanks
very nice review, is it possible to use insert 2 with a separate mixer at the same time as a mixer in line 1 ??
Yes, I run a mic and a laptop on that same channel at the same time during ceremonies sometimes.

Did you notice and resonances or noises from the plastic box at higher spl’s!
Hi Stan. I do not hear that from these. Played these next to my JBL SRX 815p's and didn't hear any resonance.
Worth buying Yamaha DBR12 for room filling bass and sound quality? My room is 5meters length and 2.5 meters in width.
With the DSP set to FOH and low levels its a very good full range speaker that sounds bigger than it is.
@@captmaverickable I got it a week ago, it is phenomenal!
in Lithuania, the price is the same as the jbl eon715, 729€
Nice video, do they have universal power supply?
Thank you! Yes, a regular IEC power cable.
