If you attach it to a "Small, Parabolic Style Dish", you can actually make it perform like a "directional antenna." If used @ home, you can even use an outdoor style antenna with a repeater every 50 ft. if needed and cover a much broader area for Wi-fi signal's. When I used it as a mobile device for my laptop, I could easily cover 2 plus miles in any direction I pointed my antenna mounted on a tri-pod. A lot of fun!!!!

For TP-LINK network adapter There is a solution to the problem of Tl-wn722n v2 , v3 by writing a set of commands and then it will support the injection and monitoring feature I tried it personally and it worked when I discovered that I had purchased the third version
For the BEST range, eBay has some 25dB Yagi antennas for under $20 but for 2.4Ghz only. I have one. They only come with poor grade coax so you may want to replace the coax (with the shortest length possible) of quality microwave coax, such as Times Microwave LM-600. Another alternative is to cut the cable short and install an RP-SMA near the antenna then mount your WiFi adapter there as near the antenna as possible. If necessary, use a USB extension cable or active repeater cable. You need soldering skills to change the cable and an RP-SMA connector. You don't want all of your incredible gain to be lost in bad coax. For 5GHz, you can get 6dB or 8dB for about $50 or you can go with a dish for 30dB but only a single band (2.4 or 5) and again, get a good cable. Some of these come with an N connector and a very short cable so you can get an N-to-RPSMA adapter, change it to RP-SMA or get a microwave cable with N on one end and RP-SMA on the other. A dish or Yagi is NOT an antenna that you can conceal. Another choice is a single or dual-band patch antenna for under $30 with 6 to 10dB gain but more easy to conceal. Watch your connectors. Some may be SMA, RP-SMA or N.
I’m using the alfa 036ACM with my pi400. Works well. Using debian11 and plan on wiping it and making it into a kali-pi. Alfa 036ACM is supposed to be compatible with Kali. We will see. Glad I bought it.
Hello Mr Bombal , thank you for your excellent job , there is a Small correction in your script in order to return all the adapters not only wlan0 , below is the correct one : pattern = r'^wlan[0-9]+' check_wifi_result = subprocess.run(["iwconfig"], capture_output=True).stdout.decode() wifi_adapters = re.findall(pattern,check_wifi_result,re.MULTILINE) print(wifi_adapters) Thanks
Hi David. I've recently fallen down the hacking/pentesting rabbithole thanks, in part, to your videos! I've downloaded VMware, I've got a Kali build for it. I bought a wifi nation WN-H2 (its the one you showed on the leaflet without the antenna). After downloading some drivers I've got it to a point where Kali detects it. I can change the mode to monitor in iwconfig but when I run airodump-ng nothing is detected. I've tried the adapter in every USB my machine has and I've tried messing with the USB 2.0/3.0 settings in VMware and nothing works. Any pointers?
Could be the settings on your VirM make sure the network adapter is bridged in the settings. IIRC airodump uses a separate capture method for the handshake from programs like wifite or wifihoney. So if it is not bridged its read as a wired connection. That could be why the pentest stops at the capture but still reads your configuration. Hope this helps. If I were you I would try a few of the other methods like cracking with rainbow tables after you capture or a dictionary attack which you can use in promiscuity mode.
I am from Nepal and for getting a good wifi adapter I should do bus travel for more than 15 hours and then also I could get hardly good one. It's quite trouble in Nepal if you are espically belong to remote area like me and if you are a programmer or a hacker. Love you sir from Nepal. Huge respect.
I want to learn all this with you sir. And I don't know anything about this how it happens. But I know that you will teach me everything. for the benefit of society,
Cool video Doug! I started with a Broadcom. In the end it didn't work out so well but I learned more about repo's, bash, modules and sysctl, blacklists, adapters, nm, oh man it goes on and on what I was forced to learn along the way. I suppose not too bad a thing but I must say watching your video is probably better. Lastly, another pretty good reason to have an external (2nd) adapter is that many scripts and tools make use of multiple adapters, not always necessary but you can do some neat stuff when you got two in play. Hopefully I didn't just miss you already saying that.
I really appreciate you David, you have the potent and in depth knowledge on the topics you discuss. You really do a lot of background work before revealing the videos. God bless.

If you want to check whether your In-Built Wifi Adapter Supports Monitor Mode Do the Following: Download and Install a Official Tool from Microsoft Called *Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4* (Don't worry still works with windows 10) - Next, launch the app and on the Start page, click on “New Capture”. - On the New Capture tab, we want only the Wi-Fi card to listen to the packets. To do that, click on the “Capture Settings” option on the top toolbar. - On the settings dialogue box, uncheck everything else apart from Wi-Fi and click on the Close button. This is to ensure that the Wi-Fi card only listens to network traffic. - Post the setup, click on the “Start” button to start capturing the packets. -In case you get an error popping up, it means your Wi-Fi card doesn’t support monitor mode. Whilst, if packets are being successfully captured, it means that your Wi-Fi card supports monitor mode. Hope It Helps :)

And that's given me endless hours of experience because I can change it to resemble a corporate/home/super hardened environment easily, and with old hardware or a cheap pi 0/other iot device/old phone added here n there to setup a network I believe using virtual machines can't do proper justice
If you don't have a video on using old pis and other hardware to make a low-cost/free home lab, I'd suggest making one, as I'm always looking to learn more ideas for improvement of my abilities

Always love your work sir...
I wanna say plz Take TP Link WN722N v2/v3 into consideration, as I used them and they work both for monitor mode and packet injection and to create fake AP too.
THE REASON WHY: I'm asking you is that many peoples like me won't be able to purchase these expensive adapters. AND IF YOU MAKE VIDEOS on what are other possibilities that this particular TP Link Adapter(costs 8.16dollar) can do, which i don't know, It would be very beneficial for us.
Thank you so much, I've always considered myself to be your student.
Thank you for your great content sir !!!
@@rajeevchourasiya3889 I covered the adapter in the video. The v2/3 don't work. Only the v1 in my tests and from what I have seen on aircrack website and elsewhere.
David please give a adapter. In my country there are not available any adapter which support monitor or injection. I am from Bangladesh.
@@davidbombal It is working great by some custom drivers.
@@rajeevchourasiya3889 Can you give me a link to the documentation showing the driver installation and process etc? I'll create a video showing that.
This is my 1st time here. I just happened to see you based on an interest in computer's and programming. The ALPHA is what I started out with, and still have. What I really love about it is that I can use it as a mobile antenna and not just at home. Mine is the old 2.4 ghtz.
David your a hero, I've had this questions for years and you're the only person on the planet that made this education accessible. You're truly helpful thanks for that!
I saw this video a few minutes after i made my purchase (after extensive internet search for the best model). I was lucky enough to see I purchased the best option !!
-Great content and extremely important Professor David.
-After all, knowing the interface models is important to know what to buy and create a cost-benefit relation when buying an interface for training or work, even more people from poor countries like me who need to train and every tip of ideal models is very important, why any money that we can save some money is vital, thank you very much.
-Thanks for the knowledge .... !!!
I was thinking about to buy WiFi adapter for my Kali machine to practice WiFi cracking. Thank you for everything you are doing! I wish you and your family all the best!!
Thank you Gabriel. Happy to hear that :)

This is going to be a video that people will reference in 2024 when trying to buy a antenna. thank you for this david; very rare that people invest this much into their own content!
Must be analogs noobs😉
i use cheap terabyte and tenda wifi adaptor and they both works out of the box on kali. Both supports monitor mode.
Tenda wifi adaptor which one? can you put a link? Thanks
Hi which models u r using?
Planning to buy adapter but confused which one select 🤔 after watching your video its clear now😃
Really happy to hear that Ganesh :)
Thank you David. Really appreciate this sort of content for some of us noobs

10:09 Even if it's version 3, you can install drivers that support monitor mode and packet injection.
It doesn't . I bought a win722n v2 for 10$ but unfortunately it doesn't work neither on kali Linux nor on other Linux distributions like wifislax . Yes of course , you can install the drivers but you will end up wasting your time because it won't work .now I am looking for win722n v1 is the best option in my case.

Hey David, I would encourage you to make a video on how to download and use Parrot OS in VMWare.. as most of us are interested in Parrot OS
I’ve switched solely to parrot, much nicer GUI, CL is colorful and tools like bettercap and other are pre installed. Service ssh start is the only bummer cause with out that line no ssh. Kali just end ssh right after boot up.
i got every single of my adapters in monitor mode on several linux distress. Kali, Manjaro, Mint you name it I finally figured them all out scanning and injecting
Please update the new adapter for 2024.

*Best Wi-Fi adapter I used so far is the Alfa AWUS0S036ACU it’s 2ghz and 5ghz and easy driver install on Kali Linux. Works like a dream. If anyone needs help with the driver it’s like 2 commands and it installs*
David! Chuck has crossed 1 million subscribers. Now let's make your youtube channel cross 1 million subscribers.
Well you are becoming smart from fat.

For TP-LINK network adapter There is a solution to the problem of Tl-wn722n v2 , v3 by writing a set of commands and then it will support the injection and monitoring feature I tried it personally and it worked when I discovered that I had purchased the third version
Definitely test and review some antennas. Itd be interesting to see whether that dish shaped one performs better or worse than the long ones.
Glad I bought it.
a review of the antennas would be awesome too by the way
I second this! and would also like the use of extension cables, DIY antennas, and LR equipment to be gone over. Please.
Hello Mr Bombal , thank you for your excellent job , there is a Small correction in your script in order to return all the adapters not only wlan0 , below is the correct one :
pattern = r'^wlan[0-9]+'
check_wifi_result = subprocess.run(["iwconfig"], capture_output=True).stdout.decode()
wifi_adapters = re.findall(pattern,check_wifi_result,re.MULTILINE)
print(wifi_adapters)
Thanks
If I were you I would try a few of the other methods like cracking with rainbow tables after you capture or a dictionary attack which you can use in promiscuity mode.
could be that you need to install the adapters driver
I am from Nepal and for getting a good wifi adapter I should do bus travel for more than 15 hours and then also I could get hardly good one.
It's quite trouble in Nepal if you are espically belong to remote area like me and if you are a programmer or a hacker.
Love you sir from Nepal.
Huge respect.
I want to learn all this with you sir. And I don't know anything about this how it happens. But I know that you will teach me everything. for the benefit of society,
David is right some unbranded adapters are pretty solid. Github will have every driver you'd need.
God bless.
Thank you :)

If you want to check whether your In-Built Wifi Adapter Supports Monitor Mode Do the Following: Download and Install a Official Tool from Microsoft Called *Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4* (Don't worry still works with windows 10)
- Next, launch the app and on the Start page, click on “New Capture”.
