    I’ve been alternator charging my Delta 2 Max with 2 Victron Orion 12 to 24 V DC DC chargers turned up to 30V and charging through the solar input ports. I get about 850 Watts charging speed. Cost $280 + cables.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  5 місяців тому

      How many amps

    • @Blztrls
      @Blztrls 5 місяців тому +3

      @@johnnysweekends the Ecoflow app only shows the charge rate in Watts but you can work backwards from that to get the amps. 850Watts @30V = 28.3A at the solar inputs, @13.3V at the input to the Orion DC to DC the current is about 64A.
      My alternator can output more than that so I actually have a 460Ah Epoch 12V battery charging from the alternator then the battery connected to the Ecoflow through the Orion DC to DC converters. It’s a messy system but I had bought the Ecoflow Delta 2 Max before I realized what a hassle it would be to charge it from the alternator. In hindsight I would never have bought the Ecoflow unit.

      @@Scat.original there’s no video I know of that details my specific method but there are some that detail how to use a 12v to 24v converter to boost the input wattage into Ecoflow or other systems.
      It’s fairly straightforward just get 2 Victron Orion 12V to 24 V converters, there is a dial you can turn to up the voltage to 30V. Then hook the output to the Ecoflow solar inputs using an XT60i connector. Make sure you use a genuine XT60i connector as the XT60 connector will be recognized as a low amperage connector and limit you to about 100watts.
      Also make sure you use thick cables on the input to the Victron Orions as it will be pulling about 70 amps. I got all my parts from Amazon.

      A inverter in itself is inefficient and also needs to be direct plugged to a battery verses the 12v socket. Unless you have an onboard inverter in the car then that could be utilized. But there are other cheaper options but much like Apple Ecoflow keeps things simple as a “plug and play “ but at a higher price. But the price has dropped already. And I assume another will be coming.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  4 місяці тому

      If you have an appropriate HD alternator it will handle the loads no problem. Sure anytime you put more load on anything it will wear it quicker.
      Just like a lift with larger wheels and tires put more strain on the whole drive line. Even adding very large sound systems strain the battery and alternator hence you buy a bigger alternator and other components to handle the increased load. Hence I talk about that issue in the video.
      Driving you vehicle 80mph all the time will age your tires and engine quicker as well.
      I think you point is unfounded, as you haven’t done enough research. Everything can be corrected if addressed properly.

    I use a Delta pro max in my 18-wheeler for tv, cooking, etc. It took a while, but I figured out how to get my 1800-watt inverter to recharge my delta pro max. I have it set at 1000w, and it takes around 2 hours if my delta is ever very low. This unit will definitely put a work your alternator so you should be very mindful of that. I obviously have a heavy duty alternator and after an hour or so, I can see my alternator amps begin to dip. The only problem with my setup is that I have to remember to turn off the inverter whenever I shut off my truck, sometimes I forget. If this unit will shut off automatically, that is a huge plus and I would buy this just for that feature alone.

    Not sure if I need alternator charging but…
    When I try to use standard 12v 100ah batteries to act as an expansion battery for my delta, I run into the problem of a hard limit. 12v x 8a = 84 watt, be generous and make an even 100 watt. That’s the max dc charge rate I can put into the EcoFlow from a standard battery.
    With this dcdc charger, I can fully utilize the EcoFlow AC output while still putting a decent amount of energy back in. Or simply letting it do its pass thru charging. This is a cheap alternative to those super expensive expansion batteries.

      It can send back through the DC out at 13.6v or 70amp max. This is the same as just the normal dc out for dc loads but I guess can charge a battery as well. Although I have not tried it. I may send the DC out at 24v then to a battery charger and step down to 12v. So a 24/12V charger. Im changing my setup and getting rid of my on board solar setup for the house battery and adding more solar to dump into power kit and then dump the excess to the house from 48v to 12V so that will actually be easier. Curious what the outcome of was for the reverse charging. Did it gradually stop charging and sense when the battery was charged in your Truck?
    I am contemplating if i should go this route and would be curious to know your thoughts. My setup below.
    Duramax Shuttle bus with dual alternators feeding a big 400-amp dual isolator with 2 start Batteries on one output and 2 House Batteries on the second output. I also have a Delta 2 Max with one extra battery with 1000 watts of solar coming in. My thought is to run everything 12v related off the House Batteries and everything AC related off the Delta 2 max. it seems like this and the reverse charging capabilities i would be able to keep my house batteries topped off with solar when the Engine isn't running. Only downside I see is not being able to use Lifepo4 batteries for the house batteries but not sure that really matters since my 12-volt load will really be low.
    Let me know your thoughts on that. Would love some feedback.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  5 місяців тому

      This system is compatible with all battery chemistry’s and will charge the house batteries. Lithium has its own bms so it will stop charging once full. But needs the 14.4 volt to fully top off. So if it only 13.8 max then it may only charge the battery 95%. Not sure.
      This is still so new and in beta more updates will be coming out. And im sure maybe added features or accessories. Who knows. They added extras to the power kit so will be interesting what else this is doing in 6 months.

    I am a Delta2 user with extra battery setup. It seems this can't be used at the same time as the Extra battery for Delta2, since only has one port. Any chance the alternator charger can plug directly into EXTRA battery and charge it independent of the Delta 2? That port looks to be the same format on both the Delta2 and the ExtraBattery? Not sure how safe it would be...but may offer another way to charge up your extra battery? PS - Thanks for the video and the savings links - great job!

    Great product makes me hesitant to buy the anker powerhouse 767, but a charger like this selling for 599 might be a bit pricey for what it is. Ecoflow has also released a 500w charger in some region that uses the xt60 connecter, which about 150 bucks, it is a much better deal compare with this one. But from the video this 800w charger seems to use a fanless design, probably thanks to the Gallium Nitride technology that brings less consumption. I probably wouldn't consider buying it in the short term, preferring to wait a year to get the right price or coupon.

    Thank you for this video you just answered a question I had sent to EcoFlow support that they said wasn't possible. I asked about the reverse charging and how that worked. Answer they sent me and I wonder if this was just an AI response if the documentation is still in the works.
    "Based on the information provided in our documentation, there is no specific mention or guidance on a reverse charging setup that allows the Delta Max 2 to charge house/start batteries directly. Our current product design and documentation primarily focus on charging the Delta Max 2 and its extra batteries through various methods, including solar panels, AC shore power, and alternator charging while driving."

    "However, your scenario of charging the Delta Max 2 while driving and then using it to charge your house/start batteries when stationary, although innovative, is not directly supported with the current design and accessories. This setup would require additional equipment, or a custom solution not provided by EcoFlow at this time."

    "We appreciate your innovative approach to utilizing our products and understand the convenience such a setup would offer. Your feedback is invaluable, and we will forward your suggestion to our product development team for consideration in future product designs or updates."

    The price of this proprietary dc-dc charger is ridiculous. You can get a Victron 700 w dc-dc charger for half the price (and size). You can use the Victron on anything. This can only be used with EcoFlow .
    Gross company that just keeps feeding UA-camrs free product and all they want is an ✌️honest✌️ review. I’ll give you an honest review of EcoFlow. Their service is horrible, the product knowledge of the service reps is ZERO. They are trying to create the monopoly of apple in the solar world. They also make you buy coupons for the “honor” of buying garbage first.

    I like it. Would be awesome for things like this to start working its way into market. I have seen some folks build a small HP mower type engine with alternators for charging battery banks. But, it would be a great setup if a company made a setup that you can plug into car and charge your off grid battery setups for low power generation days. I like the ecoflow but, since many people already have off grid components in separates would be nice for a universal setup to be used without having a main component as the ecoflow.

    • @johnnysweekends
      @johnnysweekends  5 місяців тому +1

      Agree, there is always an optional build you can do that’s universal. But when things are more proprietary then you are kinda stuck. But again most companies make products to work with their products. It like apple, why would they make something compatible with Samsung 🤷🏼‍♂️ or any other company. Needs to be a 3rd party to make some universal set up.
      But for those who want quick and easy this is more for them.

    Can you charge an EV from the EcoFlow with it?

      You can, but the Delta pro is only a 3600wh battery so not much range.

    Mine has red light and says “car battery port under voltage.
    My battery is reading 14V running but no matter where I set the voltage in the app it won’t work. Not at 11, 12, 13 or 14

      Did you update the unit, and is the EcoFlow power station you are using updated.?? If yes then I would file a work ticket through the app or on facebook

      @@johnnysweekends it was a broken little fuse! Exoflow sent me a damaged fuse! I went to local automotive shop and bought a cheap 125A fuse and used it wrapped in electrical tape. Working fine now!
