    Try recording sounds of loud highway traffic, dogs barking, and lawn mowers, leaf blowers etc and play that on a surround system that points away from you and towards your neighbors to drown out chicken sounds. Cops can't track down and arrest dogs barking and traffic sounds coming from a nondescript location.
    Also if you wanted to free range more plant a 15 foot tall living fence hedge around the perimeter of your property. Then set up electric fencing to keep the chickens in. You can hide illegal deer fencing behind the living fence to keep deer out of your gardens.
    Oh and don't forget the towns and gov like to take away freedoms of owning livestock even if you are supposedly allowed to have them when you buy the property so privacy is the best thing you can do to protect yourself.
    I would NOT ask your neighbors if they are okay with you having chickens because if you ever piss them off they know they can report you, and living with that in mind isn't freedom.
    If you do get caught, you are not "raising" chickens you bought live hens to slaughter yourself and you plan to slaughter and cook all of them this evening, and that's what you do. The coop is one you bought used and are transforming it into a doghouse so you can legally raise a dog to have it bark at all hours of the night and legally injure people with lol.
    Neighbors think they won, you plant the 15 foot tall living fence, install the outdoor surround system, raise quail and rabbits for awhile to make sure complaints are gone, you NEVER mention anything about owning chickens to anyone and you start slowly again raising a handful of chickens on your property that is farthest away from your neighbors to see if they notice, and if their are no reports then you expand cautiously.
    Also fyi paying fines for illegally owning chickens is cheaper than paying hundreds of thousands extra for a piece of property of the same size that is actually legally zoned for agriculture use.
    The good old gov laws "oh you have the right to own property where you can be self sufficient but you won't be able to afford it because it is priced for the rich to conduct evil monoculture farming on"
    Bastards
    As a child I grew up wanting to grow my own food because I didn't have much fresh food, I would steal some from neighbors gardens and I worked under the table even as a kid to buy my own groceries, because my parents were crap. I've wanted this my whole life, never got the opportunity to do it but God's still granted me with the wisdom of how to do it and with his blessing, when the time comes, I'll be ready and I'll be ready to donate my surplus and feed my family. The serenity of homesteading reminds me of the serenity of heaven. Our God is an awesome God.

    I think it should be on every show that you have your little girl sing that country song. Just so precious!!! I have acquired about a half a dozen chickens and a non crowing rooster ( by his own choice) and at first was cursing it but now they are my buddies and I'm plus 4 chicks and eggs well forget about it, too many to count ! 6:52 6:55 6:57

    Thanks for the video!
    I'm trying to get 3 to 4 hens in my backyard soon. I'm building a small but appropriately sized coop that'll be blocked by raised garden beds, a small greenhouse, and a fence enclosure. I live on just over a half acre in Texas.....but it's in an HOA.
    Texas might get a bill soon that says you can own up to 6 hens even if you live in an HOA. Hope it works!

      Sorry to hear about the HOA but that would be great if they signed that bill! I’m not supposed to have chickens but I’ve had 2 roosters for six months and none of my neighbors cared at all.I guess it all comes down to the relationships you have with your neighbors. Good luck with your chickens!

    Just want to say hell yeah brother. Thanks for the video we are going to try the don't-ask-don't-tell approach. We live right in the middle of the city and we have neighbors on every corner of our property but we have a very tall privacy fence. I think I'm going to go with a smaller breed of chicken, it's hard to find a quiet breed, but we'll see how it goes. Wish us luck

    • @onceuponatinyfarm
      @onceuponatinyfarm  Рік тому +2

      That’s awesome good luck! The tall privacy fence will definitely be helpful. And no matter what they are noisy when they lay eggs but other than that you won’t even know they’re there. You could look into bantam breeds they’re just smaller versions of larger heritage breeds. I’m also a fan of the white leghorns they’re small birds and I’m shocked at the size of eggs they pop out every day.

      Did you do it? Any update?

    • @SirCatWaffel
      @SirCatWaffel Рік тому +1

      @@leonoraliciousI have built the coop and created the run for them but we have decided that things are not quite bad enough yet to warrant breaking a rule like this. I'm absolutely insane and that's sort of a big step to me. Without incriminating myself, my food security is a hill I'm willing to die on.. that's partially why i don't want to to it yet because we really don't need it yet. We have moved our rabbit colony where the chicken coop is, but in the case SHTF, we will not hesitate to move the rabbits back to their previous spot and get a chicken or two from my buddy. Sorry the update was me chickening out lmao I just hope you understand I don't want to go to five stars over some chickens. Not quite time yet.

    All of my neighbors were cool with my chickens except one who built a privacy fence with a deck so she can see in your yard but you can't see in hers, and she reported me to the city as well as came into my yard to get pictures, so I'm going to try and move them to my garage before the city makes me get rid of them

    Can i put a buzz zap stop barking collar on an rooster 🐓 to train him not to crow?

  • @alexandraderry7086

    Can you put that collar on the hens too if they are too loud?

    • @onceuponatinyfarm
      @onceuponatinyfarm  Рік тому +1

      I wouldn’t put that collar on hens, from my experience hens that get even the tiny bit stressed won’t lay eggs and that collar will definitely stress them out.

    Some Neibor’s are nosy and horrible, even took videos and HOA wanted to fine me for every day I have them, I gave them to a friend.
    Later I found out I can have up to 5 no rooster and in a secured place. 10 feed away from the house. Glad HOA changed and horrible Neibor moved and I have now an awesome Neibor yeah. Now I have 3 chicken Heidi, summer and spring and I planted 2 Areca Palms so the stupid neighbor could not look into my place. And now, lol mine love to be under my 2 Areca palms, plant 40 cm apart. Yeah bushes around is a good idea, shade, privacy protection and cuts the noise down.

    I live within an HOA on 1.4 acres. We have an amendment in our CC&Rs against ownership of any and all 'fowl'. Due to the open nature of our land we have neighbors 2 acres away who can see our chickens and coop. They will report us very quickly and have before. Our only option is to put a coop in the garage or build a giant privacy fence which isn't very economical right now. Any suggestions?

    • @onceuponatinyfarm
      @onceuponatinyfarm  10 місяців тому +1

      That’s so sad people that far away would be willing to report you, unreal…but in that case I’d honestly want to find a property without those kind of restrictions, or at least find a place with neighbors that won’t report you, that’s how we get away with it. If you’re set on staying there, I’d probably build the tall privacy fence. Maybe you could source materials cheaper on Facebook marketplace and save some money. Another option which would take longer, but arborvitae trees grow so tall and bushy they make a great green fence. Eventually your neighbors wouldn’t be able to see over those fully grown trees lining your chicken area. Hope you figure something out!

    I am with you on this. My small town feels strongly against although more people are pro. They say chickens draw in more predators. We are close to the mountains and they don’t want bears and things coming into our town. I really hesitate on how real that issue would be. Any thoughts?

    • @onceuponatinyfarm
      @onceuponatinyfarm  Рік тому +3

      I think everyone should have the right to own chickens as long as they’re responsible and do it right. I also live in a mountain town but I just don’t free range my chickens, I give them a large run to access bugs and worms, and I also protect them from aerial predators and any other predators that could harm them.
