When using the 'Geek, make sure you are putting direct pressure at the reed, holding the tool on edge 20 degrees or so. (don't let it flop around) The weight of the tool is creating the balance. When removing larger amounts of cane or severe warping from the table you will have to add more pressure. Please refer to other tutorial videos or contact me at reedgeek.com for further help.
How much pressure do you apply when using the tool? When i "Let the weight of the tool do the work" it doesn't do a damn thing. i gotta press pretty hard for it to actually shave off some cane from the reed.
Is it crucial that you do it very lightly and let the weight of the tool do the work? I've been having issues with the tool, but I'm wondering if it could be a problem that I'm applying too much force.
Kyle, for sure just let the 'Geek balance and let the weight of the tool find any areas of the reed that are out of square! Keep the 'geek on the reed and apply a smooth back and for motion. I am posting a new tutorial video this weekend!...Mauro
Mr. Peace...Definitely will work on doing a more thorough video with Dave! Do to his schedule etc. I feel blessed when we can get a little time together to 'Geek out!! ...Mauro
i never understood why you have to spend 60 bucks on something when a regular razor blade applied correctly does the same exact thing? your shaving off a thin layer of wood.
Hi Sam, ReedGeek’s are extremely balanced with an ultra fine and completely true edge. They will actually leave the reed flatter then it left the factory and aid in sealing the pores. Also, they have specific curves to perform very precise balancing and profiling to the top side. A razor blade is not only dangerous and refined at the edge, but will tend to chatter and leave gouge’s and nicks in the reed when pressure is applied. … Mauro

No, this is not true. Sandpaper will not give you a truly flat surface. The ReedGeek utilizes the worlds most wear resistant alloys and is machined square and flat to tolerances -.0005" with a proprietary "True Edge" process. THAT will give you a flat surface. Thanks! RG
the reed he would throw away sounds way better than I have even imagined myself playing.
Dave is so chill and laid back, so classy. David Sanborn is awesome!
One of the nicest sincerest cats out there!RG
I'd literally lose my mind if I got the chance to see David Sanborn play in front of me. Such a legend!!!
I met David Sanborn backstage once. Very nice guy. Been fan for a long time.
haha thank you Dave. with an iconic sound like that who wouldn't want to buy a reed geek? i have 2 of them myself. great product!
The way Dave puts on the reed...I simply adore every move of him.
Gayyyyyyy haha jk
Sounded better before
Also Dave the lig should go on first then the reed that way theres no chance of knocking the end out.
David has inspired me for years
Rest in peace to our Legend 🙏🏽
Dave is a sweet guy. I knew him well when he was in his thirties. He’s still as cute as a button.
Haha come on man.. dont say that

It's kinda... you know
I have just ordered one of these but it seems to me that any sharp edge would take the warp or rough edges off the reed without the 40 dollar cost ..

please tell me when I have a special in that tool thanks
Fantastic
I think it takes more than just flattening the back of thar reed to fix it. Honestly it sounds as crap after as it did before.
Would have preferred listening to the same few licks before and after, but regardless i will be purchasing because i love my gadgets

@ReedGeekTool well I’d love to try one without the investment! I like using the plasticovers, can those be adjusted?

Con lija de madera de grano fino Truper se logra el mismo resultado.

Dukoff
Yea, that was one of Sanborn's original Dukoffs from the period!...He played it until it was ready to fall apart..LOL!!...Mauro
ReedGeek he does not play with Dukoff anymore?
Dave, is currently using a copy of his Dukoff out of the same metalite made by Drake. He has spare vintage Dukoff's also.
is he not using the SAXZ david sanborn mouthpiece?
I know this is 8 years ago, but put on some rubber gloves if you’re touching something that is going in my mouth.
The days before Germ phobia!...
Omg lol
That Reed still needs some work.
