I think the reason she's trying to prove it's supernatural is to clear the names of her father and brother. Her brother's recovery was built on a foundation of lies, and she wanted him to know that he hadn't been crazy.
This is such an underrated film to me, it doesn't get the love it deserves! It is SO good, it keeps you at the edge of your seat for so incredibly long omfg. The transitions? Immaculate. The big thing that happens at the end? FULL BODY CHILLS. Mike Flanagan is a genius, and I hope you dive more into his universe of films and series (Hush, The Haunting of Hill House/Bly Manor, Doctor Sleep) because they are INCREDIBLE. Great reaction guys!
@@JackDanReact Oh man, it's an amazing movie. 1408 is one of my favorites ever. You may actually need to watch a breakdown video after you watch it too because there is ALOT of hidden shit and strange references. Also, depending on which version you watch I believe there are 3 different endings. Each one totally changes the entire story. It's wild.
YES! Love 1408! Definitely agree they should see more of Mike Flanagan's works - Hush is underrated imo, and if they start going into TV series then I hope they do Mike's Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and Fall of the House of Usher! Also for other horror movies in general, hope they do Jacob's Ladder or Possum or something! ^^
Mike Flanagan is SO GOOD with these transitions and time-bending narratives, it's insane. I've never had a director so consistently leave me with this sense of sadness and empathy and just pure despair before, dude's track record is incredible. Every movie and show is impeccable, you can really feel the care he takes in crafting these narratives and everything is SO character driven! You guys need to watch more of his stuff, but space it out because he loves to leave us traumatized and gaslit like he did with this lol
This is one of my all time favorite horror movies. Its a shame it went under the radar for ao long until Mike Flanagan got super popular with all of iis Netflix projects
It was so well done wasn't it? Those transitions from past to present day are amazing, i loved how both the story from when they were kids and the present day were being told at the same time
The Apple and the lightbulb never fails at making me feel uncomfortable. You should check the short film this is based off 'Oculus: Chapter 3 - The Man with the Plan' (think it's on UA-cam or Vimeo somewhere) it shows how well they developed a cool simple premise into such a great film. Anything by Flanagan is worthwhile to be fair but if you haven't seen it the Haunting of Hill House series it's especially great, particularly following Oculus.
About the husbands response to his wife's comment on her scar (at 9:23): It was exactly the right response! He correctly interpreted her previous comment about being "the same old wife" and the one about her noticeable scar to be an expression of her insecurity that she might no longer be attractive to her husband. He got the message and responded accordingly. Well played!
Absolutely loved this film, had a pretty meaningful conversation about hubris and psychopathy/sociopathy regarding Kaylie's drive to solve a mystery that they successfully escaped from once, and putting her brother in the line of fire for it.
Makes sense in some ways - like when she got a poor little Boston Terrier specifically to act as a canary in a coal mine/bait. Part of me wonders if a combo of the childhood trauma and her time in foster care also affected her, as well as her masking her issues for a long time/never going to take care of her mental health like her brother did.
Bless you x 3… I’m so glad you pick up on who gave the best performance in this film, Annalise Basso who played young Kaylie. As a child actress she is solid as an everyday girl wanting her own cell phone to a very intense girl, trying to survive and keep her brother calm. Amazing performance! She was also in Mike Flanagan’s prequel to Ouija, “Ouija: Origins of Evil”. Again, a super strong performance. Did you recognize the other actors? Older Kaylie is played by Karen Gillan, who plays Nebula in “Guardians of the Galaxy”. I would have never guessed that was the same actress. Katee Sackhoff was recently in “The Mandalorian” and two good films, “Riddick” and “Don’t Knock Twice”. The Dad was played by Rory Cochran who was the long haired dude in “Dazed and Confused”. I NEVER thought he would grow up to be a hot man!! WOW! He’s almost as good looking as you, Jack! And yes, Flanagan’s work would not be complete with out his wife, Kate Siegel. She played Marisol.
I always felt bad for Tim like he got out! Kayle just had to prove something. Honestly, after the first time, she really should have let it go. At the same time, I love how this movie talks about trauma and grief.
Well, in order to save future possible owners the mirror had to be destroyed. The dangerous part is doing the experiment trying to prove the "supernatural force" while using a mechanism that could kill them if they were controlled, they could barely see the cameras once to see what was happening, at some point they were always hallucinating. But if the important thing was to destroy it, with a rifle from a great distance would have been easy, or just the same type of mechanism she used but getting out of the house immediatly and activating it remotelly, but obviously there would be no movie without the experiment.
isnt it interesting that it's all about a mirror while their past and present reflect each other, especially the ending that showed tim (past and present) getting dragged into the police car? like exact reflection. small details like that make mike flanagan a genius.
This is one of my favorite horror movies ever. So unsettling and creepy. And so well done. I love how it messes with your mind and has you constantly doubting what's real and what's not. By Flanagan, I think The Haunting of Hill House is also a fantastic watch, even tho it's a series, not a movie.
You can find the mirror featured in this movie in the rest of Flanagan's works! Just brief flashes, or just the frame... But it's always cool to point it out!
Mike Flanagan is amazing, you should really get into his other works, they're all fantastic - plus he hides the Lasser Glass in pretty much everything he makes, it's a fun little game to try and spot it in the background!
Ouiji: Origin of Evil is another Mike Flanagan work that’s fantastic and doesn’t seem to get enough attention- please add to your list! The actress who plays the young daughter is also in that and is great in it
She told her boyfriend to call on the hour. That’s why she was being so specific in the beginning and you asked why she was talking like that. It’s to make it easier to discern if the call is actually her fiance or the mirror.
I didn't know this was a Mike Flanagan movie until the end, yet I was constantly thinking that it's somehow like "Haunting of Hill House". And stupid me was delighted that there are more movie makers as talented as Flanagan... Well, guess he's still unmatched! 😅
Love this movie! Absolutely one of Mike Flannagan's best-underrated works (same with Hush - definitely recommend checking that movie out for a reaction as well too)! Though I always felt bad for the dogs in this movie. What happened to the MCs' childhood dog was sad, imo - and though Boston Terrier was probably the only one that was able to survive, the poor little guy might also be a stray and would need someone to take in that baby/give him to a genuinely good home and family.
Ah that's awesome to hear! Glad to have you here! 😊 I'll get the grudge on the list, one i've heard of for aaaages, but have never got around to watching!
Another great reaction to a great movie. I actually saw this one in theaters and thought it was really well done. Not too many bit jumpscares which I hate but was subtle for most of it and creepy. The cutaways between time were really well done.
I only found your channel the day before yesterday and I've already watched all of your videos. You've got a great chemistry together, you're fun to watch, and you seem like great lads. I'm a huge horror movie fan myself, so I've got a couple of suggestions for you: The Babadook, It Follows, Alien, The Invisible Man (2020), The Silence of the Lambs, Nope. Have fun watching! :)
I am so glad this movie is getting more reactions. It is amazing in my opinion. I love people reacting to how messed up it is. edit: The thing with the mirror, you cannot get away if it does not want you to. Nah not the mirror the Lasser Glass.
I felt SO BAD for Tim. Oh my God. He got locked up in a mental asylum when he was eleven years old, for crimes he didn't even commit. He spent all of his teen years, his whole young adult life, locked up in the asylum, probably forced to take drugs, etc. Then, when he is twenty-one years old, he is set free.... only to be locked up again a day or two later, this time FOREVER. Oh my God. What a waste. The poor guy.
