    TYFS - I’m wondering if the “deadheaded” lavender is also seeds? I know that many flowers like marigolds, blanket flowers, African daisies, zinnias, forget me nots, 4 o’clock s, etc turn into seed & will basically reseed themselves if not deadheaded. Will lavender do the same or can I only get new plants by taking cuttings & cross my fingers 🤞🏻 that they’ll root? Thank you 🙏🏻 for any info you can share!

    I've got five (5) huge lavender plants and the blossoms just started fading in July in Michigan, losing the plush purple color. It's a back breaker for me to do what your video is showing...cutting off each spent blossom! I'm 74 and that's too much for me to bend over or even sit on a stool to do. I think I'm just going to grab a handful of dying blossoms and use my Corona red pruners instead of a hedger. QUESTION: I didn't prune the plants this spring 2022...I just let them do their thing...and they all grew new growth and flowers on the non-pruned plants. They kept their size from the season before and still filled in gorgeously as though they had been pruned. Can anyone explain how that happened? Bizarre!!

      @@babsphillips8583 I just use an electric hedge pruner, I trim it right down leaving an inch of green stems just above the woody stems, I rake all the clippings out with a spring tine rake, gather it up, bag it into a pillowcase, hang that up to dry, job done 😁.

    I have never trimmed my lavender plants and they are getting big can I split them? I have hosta alternating with lavender on by front walkway

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  3 роки тому

      Hi Janet! 👋 Thank you for watching and asking your question! Lavender plants usually can't be "split" or "divided" due to how they grow, but they can be pruned back. Make sure, if you do prune them, that you cut back to any point where they have a stem or there are leaves growing below your cut, or you might not get any regrowth. Older, harder wood has a tendency to not resprout on some lavender plants. If you don't want to prune them, you could consider digging them up and transplanting to a new location, if you have space available. We hope this helps and look for our upcoming video this late summer, early fall on hard-pruning lavender, because ours in the front yard are getting wayyyyyyy too big. Hope you have fun with your lavender plants and in your garden! 😃👍

    I have a lavender plant that I am growing inside and it fell in the floor and some of the stems split can I use this same method?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  3 роки тому +2

      Hi Naquil! 👋 Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Sorry to hear your lavender plant took a spill. If we are understanding your question, you would like to know if you can prune away any split stems, similar to how we suggested deadheading lavender? Kinda ....😉 If you have split stems on the flower stems, then yes, you can definitely just deadhead those flower stems away. If you have split or broken stems on the plant itself at or below the leaves, then it would be best to prune away those broken stems back just under the break. There is a lot more to it, but that is the easiest way to say it here. In fact, you just gave us an idea on what we can show in our upcoming spring lavender pruning video this next week. So stay tuned and we hope your plant is still a live and kicking. And thank you for watching and comming! 😲👍😃

    Can you do anything with these blooms? Or do you technically need to harvest prior to blooming?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  2 роки тому

      Hi Linda! 👋 Thank you for watching and yes, you can harvest lavender flowers to have in a vase inside or outside on your table or elsewhere. They do add fragrance and color to any area, especially in a bunch or vase. Hope that answers your question and let us know if you want to know more! 😃👍

    so i didnt harvest my lavender this last season should i cut off the blooms before spring or just leave the blooms on?

      what would be more beneficial to the plant?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  3 роки тому

      Hi Cascading GainZ! 👋 You should cut the old blooms off at the beginning of spring, after the last threat of frost has past. You can remove each flower individually if you want to keep the plant looking more natural, or you can use hedge shears to remove the old flowers faster and also shape the plant as you wish. We have a video coming up specifically about this, because we didn't prune our back this fall, so coming soon. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😉👍

    Do you deadhead mona lavendar the same way?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Gerri!👋 Thank you for watching our video and for your question. Really good question, too! 😉 The Mona Lavender is actually a completely different plant, going by a different genus, Plectranthus, where the English Lavender plant is in the Lavendula genus. We know, pretty technical, but it's good to know. Even though they are two completely different plants, they both have spikes of flowers that are produced at the end of their stems, which does make deadheading them similar. Really good question and thanks again for being here and watching our video! 👍😃

    why are you under quarantine?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden  3 роки тому +1

      Hi John! 👋 Thanks for watching and for asking your question. We started making our "Quarantined Gardeners" videos in March of 2020 when we were mandated to quarantine in our state and wanted to let everyone know that just because we all had to stay home didn't mean that gardening was cancelled, to encourage people to still garden. We decided to continue our series for a whole year and continue to encourage and hopefully inspire gardeners to keep going. We are not currently under quarantine right now. Thanks again for watching. 😊

    How to get rid of bees

    • @smiley_chaos1437
      @smiley_chaos1437 Рік тому

      We need bees. You don't want to get rid of them. Just let them collect their pollen and they'll be on their merry way. If you have a big hive you can contact people that will relocate them. Bees are becoming endangered yet we need pollinating species or we as humans won't survive!!!
