My mom died two years ago and she was 90. She used to tell me how her and the family would gather around the radio to listen to stories and she would wait for the secret code from Ovaltine. I never asked how old she was at the time. But now I see what she was talking about.

4:30 - it's not immediately obvious, but I think they were trying to get kids interested in becoming a block warden or get into some other Civil Defense position when they got older. This was during the start of the "red scare", where the Soviets could launch an air raid against the United States at any moment and begin dropping nuclear bombs on American cities (ICBMs came later).
The "emblem" bears some resemblence to the Civil Defense armband that a block warden would wear.

The Corrigan Ranch was the location for many early Lone Ranger episodes if I remember correctly. BTW. As a kid this man looked stern and I was afraid of him even though he smiled. LoL

The full collection of decoder messages forms as one that reads:
"GO TO THE PLAIN GREY BUILDING WITH THE RED STRIPE AROUND THE TOP LOCATED IN THE DOWNTOWN OF YOUR CITY. ONCE YOU ENTER, SIT AND WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS"

No cocoa or chocolate in Ovaltine.

      Space Age Simulated 'Chocolate'!
Which is futuristic so it must be better!

What's interesting is that this is still so early in the television era, that the 'monitor' behind him is nothing more than a light box, with the text overlayed on the 'screen' being done post production. A TV with a screen of that size will become common and affordable about a decade later.

Good lord. They laid that cold war propaganda on us pretty heavily.
