Honorable Mentions: Kenny Aronoff Larry Mullen Jr. Denny Carmassi Mickey Curry Morris Day Will Calhoun Philip "Fish" Fisher Carmine Appice Vinny Appice Terry Bozzio Jon Farriss Chris Franz David Robinson Max Weinberg Liberty DeVito Clive Burr/Nicko McBrain Jeff Porcaro Clem Burke Joey Kramer Debbie Peterson Gina Schock Mick Fleetwood Steve Smith Chester Thompson Alex Van Halen Aynsley Dunbar Bill Bruford Carl Palmer Adam Woods Mel Gaynor My Top 10 Drummers: 10. (Tie) Charlie Watts/Ringo Starr And my number one drummer goes to: 1. Stewart Copeland (what can I say...I love The Police) Well that's my lith lith. Can't wait to see what everyone has on their list.
Hedwig : “So if any of you out there are looking for the song that's going to be your big hit, you should pay attention, because we are talking to Phil Collins' people. But then again... aren't we all?”
My top 5: 1. Neil Peart (Rush) 2. Bill Bruford (Yes and King Crimson) 3. Phil Collins (Genesis) 4. Keith Moon (The Who) 5. Carl Palmer (ELP) Honorable Mentions: Guy Evans (VdGG) and Paul Thompson (Roxy Music) There are many great drummers to list and if I thought about it more I may replace some in this list. Yeah ranking musicians is very difficult for me as well.
Thank you for mentioning Jerry Allison, I have been a lifelong Holly fan and had the pleasure of meeting Him when I was 11...he called me up when I was 10..Wonderful guy
Fun show and there are so many great drummers so I'm going to divide my list into classic legends and personal favorites so for the classics I have Stewart Copeland, Mick Fleetwood, Keith Moon, Carl Palmer, Phil Collins, and Bill Ward for personal favorites I have session legends John Robinson, Kenny Aronoff, Jeff Porcaro and Steve Jordan, Mel Gaynor from simple minds, Adam Woods from the Fixx Alan white from yes, barriemore Barlow from Jethro Tull, Tony Thompson from chic, Roger Taylor from Duran Duran and Roger Taylor from Queen there are many I'm probably missing but these are my top favorites
@djcrystalclear8169 so many great ones however there is one that I missed is the incredible Steve ferrone so many amazing credits to name and yes I'm a Ringo fan I did miss him in my legends list and I've got to say love me some solo Ringo to
Anyone who parrots the “Ringo was just lucky” nonsense doesn’t know it, but they’re really talking about Peter Criss. As for my favorite drummer, far and away, it’s Stewart Copeland.
It IS tougher ranking players than it is to rank albums which is one reason why I tend not to do these kind of lists, or I try but fail and just scrap it, but I'm a wannabe drummer so the "best" or "favorite" drummers is something I was gonna take a bit more seriously than guitarists and singers (though I am a wannabe singer too. And guitarist. I'm a wannabe, basically, but nevermind). Been working on this and since we're forced to do a top 10, I had to pull a Crystal and slip a few ties in there despite having honorable mentions. ;) Props to Crystal (as always) for mentioning drummers that I for one certainly either wouldn't know or forgot about. So, here goes. Honorable mentions: John Bonham, Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa (now that I got those four out of the way, let's move on. Ha!), Peter Criss (KISS my ass, "third best". Ha! To me, he's the second best. First best is in my top 10), Elvin Jones, Hal Blaine, Benny "Papa Zita" Benjamin, Simon Phillips, Zak Starkey, Kenney Jones (he sadly lost his son recently, so respect and props to him), Earl Palmer (drummers like Earl and Hal Blaine might actually technically be the BEST drummers in that they have and can play pretty much everything and anything), Dave Grohl (he is a good drummer, no doubt), Taylor Hawkins (him too. First saw him with Alanis Morissette, actually), Donna C (thanks for reminding me of her), Stewart Copeland, Chester Thompson, Terry Bozzio, Clyde Stubblefield, Levon Helm, Ginger Baker, Tommy/Marky/Richie Ramone (yep, Richie was good too), Bun E. Carlos, Sly Dunbar, Carlton Barrett (any reggae drummer, really. Sorry Paul. Ha), Jim Keltner, Al Jackson Jr., John Barbata, Freddie Marsden, Dino Danelli (pains me not to add him to my top 10 despite the ties on it), Karen Carpenter, Phil Rudd, Alice de Buhr (look up Fanny's performance of Blind Alley on Beat Club and thank me later), Kenny Aronoff, and Cindy Blackman Santana. And now, my top 10 (Yes, there are ties. Kill me. Ha. Wouldn't forgive myself if I didn't put any of them on the top list): 10. Meg White (Jack's musical anchor hence why I couldn't get into anything Jack did after the Stripes called it quits) 9. Charlie Watts / John Densmore (True what you said about the Doors. I remember seeing them perform with your friend Eddie Vedder singing lead on one of those Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame things and it basically sounded like the Doors with Eddie Vedder singing lead. Ha!) 8. Sheila E. (Got to see her twice with Ringo and the All-Starrs. 2001 and 2006. I may have been the only one in the whole Jones Beach amphitheatre in 2001 who knew how good she was when she took her solo spot, and of course she killed and blew everyone away, but I didn't know she played an actual drum kit as well. Shows you how naive I was at the time myself about her. Ha! I think she's gotten her props as a musician, though. She's often appeared on those "greatest drummers" lists by Rolling Stone and the such. Just because some musician friends are stupid doesn't mean everyone else is too. ;) ) 7. Ringo Starr (It seems most people feel you're a good drummer if you can play fast and do good solos. I sort of thought that way too, but the older I got and the more I tried playing the drums myself, the more I realized that just playing a straight 4/4 for two or three minutes isn't as easy as it looks and that it's actually EASIER to do a solo than it is to play with the rest of the band. Most of the drummers I've listed can play a good solo, I'm sure, but I'm more focused on their playing with the bands they were in. Ringo is undoubtedly one of the best ones at it) 6. Phil Collins / Steve Gadd 5. Eric Carr 4. Clem Burke / Tre Cool / Greg Errico (Three-way! Sexy! Ahem, sorry) 3. Max Weinberg / Mitch Mitchell (Two engines. Love your quote Paul about that if Keith Moon was a jazz player, he'd be Mitch Mitchell. Makes sense! I actually find myself looking more at Mitch than Jimi while watching footage of Hendrix and the Experience performing live. Speaking of Keith Moon...) 2. Keith Moon 1. Gina Schock (Belinda Carlisle may not have been a good drummer, but Gina certainly was. Pains me how underrated she is. You never see her name on any of these lists. She's friggin' awesome.) And I'm sure there are many others I've forgotten about, including ones that you three mentioned and others here in the comments. Buddy Rich for Miller Lite. "It's breaking my heart over here!" (If you know, you know.) With the way Paul was introducing his pick for Lars Ulrich, I thought he was gonna say Dave Grohl. Ha!
Yess! Here’s my favorite drummers: 1. Mitch Mitchell 2. Ringo Starr 3. Neil Peart 4. Keith Moon 5. Mick Fleetwood 6. Karen Carpenter 7. Jeff Porcaro 8. Nigel Olsson 9. Hal Blaine 10. Jim Keltner Honorable mentions: James Gatson Floyd Sneed (not really a Three Dog Night fan, but he’s an awesome drummer!) Torry Castellano Meg White (yes, she’s great in her simplicity) Alex Van Halen Roy MacDonald Buddy Rich Clyde Stubblefield Moe Tucker Max Roach Bill Bruford Tony Williams Stewart Copeland Ginger Baker Elvin Jones Dishonorable mentions: Tommy Lee Lars Ulrich Barriemore Barlow Worst drummer: Chad Smith (fuck the Chili Peppers!)
10. Marco Minneman 9. Tony Allen 8. Vinnie Colaiuta 7. Jaki Liebezeit 6. Jack DeJohnette 5. Elvin Jones 4. Jojo Mayer 3. Bill Bruford 2. Billy Cobham 1. Tony Williams
1. Stewart Copeland 2. Keith Moon 3. Ringo (I wasn't hanging on every word as I listened but did not one of the three of you mention Stewart Copeland? (Could easily be the most outrageous omission of any video you've ever done )

Great video folks
Forgot to mention a drummer that at least for a period was probably THE most influential drummer around - Ron Wilson from the Surfaris (Wipe Out).
Forgot to mention Martin Chambers as well. And maybe Brian Chase too. So many good drummers to choose from.
