I watched this video with my Foreign students to teach about Rochester .Really nice video. You are missing few Must See in rochester. Abbott's Frozen Custard is one of them! The zoo is another fun one and finally Seabreeze Amusement Park . Thank you
4:52: Garbage Plate: This USED to be just a late-night dish, sold exclusively at the Nick Tahou's on West. Main st.; a place which used to be frequented after the bars closed by a combination of drunk frat boys, 'ladies of the evening', blues musicians from the blues club down the street, and just about any homeless person who had the price of a cup of coffee on them. It was NEVER about the food. Unfortunately, Nick Tahou's on Main st. now closes in the early evening, so if you want that 'original atmosphere', you need to check out Mark's Texas Hots.
Hate to break it, but the opening footage is NOT of Rochester, NY. Rather, it's Rochester, UK. There are no late medieval castles or period gothic cathedrals in Rochester, NY.
On the outside of Rochester is a museum called the New York Museum of Transportation, surprised it was not on the list it’s so close to Rochester. Anyways it’s a fun place to visit if your into history or transportation you can search up the name and it’ll take you to the website as-well.
5:50: Ontario Beach Park: Avoid this at all costs on the first warm weekend in May; the local high-school 'hooligan gangs' always manage to have a rumble up there, resulting in the occasional stabbing, and dozens of police officers responding and closing off the beach. Once the school closes for the summer (3rd wee in June), things calm down there.
6:15: Lilac Festival: If the lilacs are in bloom the week BEFORE the festival starts, that's the time to see them. Once the festival starts, it's a crowded mess of too many people trampling all over the grounds, food vendors stinking up the air so that you can't smell the lilacs, and all sorts of hucksters in an actual 'carnie village' that pops up with travelling food and game vendors. Has all, the charm of a county fair midway. Don't expect to be able to park anywhere near the fesival....
4:30: You mention the George Eastman museum, but NOTHING about the Dryden Theatre associated with it??? The Dryden theater plays old movies, some of which exist nowhere else in the world, and they have a schedule posted on their website. A must for any old movie buff.
Yeah, but Genesee has been widely known as terrible watered down barely beer for longer than our lifetimes. And there's only one Garbage Plate. Nick's. The rest are strip mall imitation bad food joints.
