  • In this video I show you how to paint the Romans that come in the Warlord Games, Caesars Gallic Wars Sets and the old Roman Invasion of Britain sets. In other words, Republican Romans and EIR.
    But this technique will work equally well in paint any historical models, from 'swords and sandals' to 'horse and musket' periods.
    Its a technique that will get lots of models painted up quickly to form the units you need for your Hail Caesar, Pike and Shot or Black Powder games.
    The video is relatively long, as it is not only painting, but also covers varnish, applying decals and basing. Basically everything you need in one video!
    I have primarily demonstrated GW brand Paints and Contrast paints but the equivalent products from brands like Vallejo or Army painter will work equally well.
    I hope you find the video helpful in getting your units painted up and ready for the miniature battlefield!

    I like the soundtrack. The Final Days of Rome by Two Steps from Hell is one of my Favorites. Very nice Video, quick table ready schemes, the kind I prefer.

      Yes well spotted, I found it when I searched "Rome" in Filmoras audio catalog, it seemed very appropriate to what I was painting! Glad you liked the video. Cheers Scott

    Have painted thousands of the ancient army 1/72 over my many many years of painting ministures. HAT do a wide and varied range that are quality moulds and nicely detailed..

    • @kapitihobbies9360
      @kapitihobbies9360  Рік тому

      Oddly Ive always considered 1/72 plastics as 'kids toys' as I played with them endless as a 'rugrat'... plus the soft bendy plastic is a nightmare to trim and paint (YVMV)... I just like the 28mm scale for painting, I like the hard plastics and happy to work with older style metal figures, I just dont like the resins they have brought out recently as you cant scrape/file off the mold lines without getting a fuzzy burr you cant get rid... you have to slice the mold lines off removing bits of the model if youre not careful. Im not a fan of resin!

    The metal beads on the imperial legionaries frontal groin area were to make noise while marching to sound more numerous and scary, Great video btw😊

      That's just a guess. Nobody really knows why they wore them. Contemporary sculpture implies that they might originally have been a gladiatorial costume item that was adopted by soldiers.

    well done I like that you did an EIR at the same time. The amount of upside decals I had to fix...... :)

      @kapitihobbies9360  Рік тому

      I think EIR is what most of us visualise when you think Roman soldier, so good to include. Upside down decals... erm um yes, I blame insomnia and Sunday mornings! Buts thanks for letting me know Im not the only one whos done that! :)

    Thanks, I am just about to start a 20 man napoleonic unit, so will follow this, particularly the tip of gloss paint first on the contrast. As an aside, my older ears have a bit of trouble separating sounds, so I like your narrative and I like the music, but struggle with them both at the same time.

      At some point this year, though not necessarily 'soon', sorry. We need to manage and deal with the Leviathan launch , then we'll be in a position to sort out a mats order.

    The "gold" should actually be bronze, which in the classical and early Dark Age period actually looked more like our modern brass. I always use Dark Star brass on my figures.

    • @Andrew-pp2ql
      @Andrew-pp2ql Рік тому

      What color do you recommend to provide a shading effect to the brass?

    • @kapitihobbies9360
      @kapitihobbies9360  Рік тому +1

      Yeah I just found the gold with shade and drybrush was satisfactory for my needs. You could obviously start with a more brass specific color if preferred.

    • @neilcook9088
      @neilcook9088 Рік тому +1

      @@Andrew-pp2ql I usually paint army painter quickshade -soft tone or vallejo game wash -sepia over the metal area, and just wipe the areas that would receive the most light with a cotton bud to lift most of it off. When all is finished I spray a matte varnish over the whole model and then paint over the metallics with an acrylic gloss varnish such as warcolours gloss varnish but any acrylic gloss varnish will work.

    I hate decals. Most of them come from Trajan's column and have nothing to do with was was actually painted on the shields.
