Beautiful playing and a perfect lesson for anyone feeling stuck in boxy scales.
This is the way.
Oh my days that mustang is gorgeous.
I think this vertical approach to finding the triads also leads in many cases to nicer voice leading compared to the big jumps you get going up and down the neck 👍
Great reminder that we have every scale and chord available in any 4-5 fret area! Thanks for posting
Wonderful as always. Calming and informative, explained in a way my brain understands.
another brilliant lesson! tysm eric!!
Another excellent lesson!!
A most excellent treatment of triads. Thank you so much. You inspire me every day.
Very useful approach, and very musical as well. Thanks a lot!
Hey Eric, Ever since I watched your Eye in the Sky vid I have been hooked on you're channel. Thanks for what you do.
It's 'your', not 'you're'. You're welcome.
Nice chords Eric , really tasty-mysterious sounding chords . Thanks for sharing !
Thanks Eric, you're always prompting me to rethink my approach to playing and I appreciate that. I was definitely in the linear up and down the neck camp with triads but I'm going to make more of an effort to get comfortable with some of those thicker voicings!
Those are useful too!
Any teacher can only really say what works for THEM, of course your mileage may vary :-)
Thank you, Eric! ✌️😌🎸
Nice to see 'Musty' again. That Hiwatt is forever delivering the goods. Many tasteful triads this week. I can see the connections but they're not second nature yet so i lack your playfulness. I love the combination of open strings against chords higher up the neck and also that wonderful 'rub' when an open string clashes with an adjacent fretted note. Very cool.
Yeah! The JANGLE!
You are one of my fav UA-cam teachers Eric!
Thanks Casey!
Damn it, Haugen!! Those licks are so tasty and sweet, you're gonna knock me out of ketosis.
Good stuff brother , the clean headroom on the hiwatt is nice ✌🏻🎸🎶🍕
I’m actually working on a song right now where my part is a bunch of triads. I found all the options and then went with the triad where the lowest note sounds coolest to start the arpeggio.
Love your Mustang. I can't justify getting myself a nice one like yours, but I have a Squier in a competition red. The dark wood with that red pic guard,off-white pickups. She's a beaut!
All musicians respect the Squier cred tho - playing econo is where it's at!
I dig it!
Right! Building the melody with the triad… instead of just laying down the triad frosting.
Tasty… 😛
This sounds wonderful & teaches triads in an immediately useful way. I got the tabs/backing and would enjoy a longer Guitar Zen on that topic (nudge, nudge, wink, wink)
Hey America and all the World😄 ....... Your playing and Sound is amazing, as allways
Thanks Nic!
I had the 6×10 Silvertone amp, bought it for $50 in 1970 along with a '61 Melody Maker. Man, that sucker was loud! Mom would turn off the breaker when she came home and college dorm confiscated it. Finally blew it up and dont know what happened to it (late 70's, what can I say) but still have some of those floppy Jensens. And the Melody Maker, now with a Lollar P90
I like both ways of using them. It makes sure you really know the neck.
Sometimes you want the movement in the same way as when you move other chords up and down the neck.
This is the way.
Great
nice. Pretty cool. never had a Mustang without perfect intnonation on the G ! great looking guitar though. Thanks for the AM6! subscribed!
Great lesson and video again! I find my G's don't slip as much when I use a wound string. It's not for everyone, but I dig it.
Great for rhythm guitar!
Love all your stuff Eric thanks my favorite teacher next to Patrick on flatpick nation and Brian active melody you’re guys are the best 🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️🔥🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯👻
That's highly esteemed company indeed - thanks!
@@EricHaugenGuitar I get a lot from you tho I’m on a bluegrass phase now but I always stop n jam blues or make something up or I really like your philosophy stuff it’s the best need a shirt that says haugenomics
Another commanding performance, I THINK. NOT EVEN CONSIDERING the technical guitar prowess which allows to share knowledge as you do, I find your accompanying verbal instruction lyrical almost to the point of sounding melodic(WITH dynamics!). Your skills are admirable and your generosity appreciated!
TRUELY,
Ted Furlo
Thanks so much Ted!
Hey Eric, I’m kinda taking the same approach as I learn my triads. I’m just picking one of the five pentatonic positions to improv over a backing track and trying to use all the triads in that position. I just pick a different position each time I practice.
Amazing tone in your sound. What reverb(s) are you using in this particular video?
I always use Valhalla Vintage Verb - it's a $50 plugin that works MAGIC!
❤
Am9 aka the wrist breaker
Oh Long Johnson! Oh Don Piano.
Old man Haugen droppin' the vintage viral yuks
In Syndey, you don't use Triads, Triads use you.
What a country!
A dialed in Mustang
how ?
Tasty.
Hey Eric, love your videos! Do you record your own drums?
Search his channel for “backing tracks” there are at least 2 videos including this one showing how he makes the backing tracks ua-cam.com/video/rS7vcw58RsA/v-deo.html
I use EZ drummer (with the Steve Albini samples) - it's a couple hundred bucks but WELL WORTH IT.
Yeah but where'd you get that cool cap?
Just search for "newsboy cap!"
i have the same guitar lol
😎👍❤🖖
2:15 how you create a Dm with a B natural ? isn't the 6th a B flat ?
Almost!
Buuuut we’re in the key of Am, so that wonky lil B is still natural = bonus!
@@EricHaugenGuitar Thanks for answering ! ok i'll take it as a sort of melodic flexibility due to the fact is in the scale of Am
Great gateway lesson to spending 3$ for tabs!!!!
Very useful, thanks. BTW, I’m a bit disappointed to see you’ve joined the ( unnecessarily ) ‘huge mic in shot’ craze when for years you used sensible, inconspicuous lav mic. I’m guessing there’s a financial imperative involved, but it sure is ugly
There's an awful room resonance at 193hz that the lav mic pics up because it's omni.
The Joe Rogan mic is delightfully cardioid and directional - so it solves that problem!
I've spent over 10k since moving into this new house to get my sound and visuals here!
Stop trying to sell me a mustang
Do you get the cauliflower crust, have portion control, high metabolism??
Your channel is making me fat and I'm considered legal action!

🫡 i been waiting for this one thank you
