    I think this vertical approach to finding the triads also leads in many cases to nicer voice leading compared to the big jumps you get going up and down the neck 👍

    Thanks Eric, you're always prompting me to rethink my approach to playing and I appreciate that. I was definitely in the linear up and down the neck camp with triads but I'm going to make more of an effort to get comfortable with some of those thicker voicings!

    Nice to see 'Musty' again. That Hiwatt is forever delivering the goods. Many tasteful triads this week. I can see the connections but they're not second nature yet so i lack your playfulness. I love the combination of open strings against chords higher up the neck and also that wonderful 'rub' when an open string clashes with an adjacent fretted note. Very cool.

    I’m actually working on a song right now where my part is a bunch of triads. I found all the options and then went with the triad where the lowest note sounds coolest to start the arpeggio.

    I had the 6×10 Silvertone amp, bought it for $50 in 1970 along with a '61 Melody Maker. Man, that sucker was loud! Mom would turn off the breaker when she came home and college dorm confiscated it. Finally blew it up and dont know what happened to it (late 70's, what can I say) but still have some of those floppy Jensens. And the Melody Maker, now with a Lollar P90

    I like both ways of using them. It makes sure you really know the neck.
    Sometimes you want the movement in the same way as when you move other chords up and down the neck.

NOT EVEN CONSIDERING the technical guitar prowess which allows to share knowledge as you do, I find your accompanying verbal instruction lyrical almost to the point of sounding melodic(WITH dynamics!). Your skills are admirable and your generosity appreciated!

    Hey Eric, I’m kinda taking the same approach as I learn my triads. I’m just picking one of the five pentatonic positions to improv over a backing track and trying to use all the triads in that position. I just pick a different position each time I practice.

    Very useful, thanks. BTW, I’m a bit disappointed to see you’ve joined the ( unnecessarily ) ‘huge mic in shot’ craze when for years you used sensible, inconspicuous lav mic. I’m guessing there’s a financial imperative involved, but it sure is ugly

    • @EricHaugenGuitar
      @EricHaugenGuitar  Рік тому +2

      There's an awful room resonance at 193hz that the lav mic pics up because it's omni.
      The Joe Rogan mic is delightfully cardioid and directional - so it solves that problem!
      I've spent over 10k since moving into this new house to get my sound and visuals here!
