When I was in elementary school, there was a skunk that would show up every day on the playground. when the principal noticed that we kids had basically adopted it as a school pet, he took it into a veterinarian and had it de-scented. The skunk lived a long happy life, loved by all the school children.

When I was 5, back in 1966, the folks down the street had a skunk under their house and had the exterminator come out and get rid of it. Well, it turned out that it was a female, and she had a litter of babies that were discovered the next day. So they were taken to the vet, were descented and we took the only female. We named her Chanel. She was a great pet. She ate dog food, caught mice and bugs in our unfinished basement and garage, and she used a litter box. When the Sears repairman came to fix our dryer, Mom forgot to tell him about the skunk in the basement. He took the stairs 3 at a time on his way out! We had her for about 3 years until we moved and had to stay with my grandmother for a few months before we found a house. We gave her to a local petting zoo. She was a big hit with the kids.

Yes Andre' skunks really do "do that thing with their tail" when they are going to spray you and YES they really do stink that bad! Their smell is extremely pungent and it is so thick you have a hard time breathing! There are a lot of skunks that get hit on the road at night by traveling cars and if you drive over the same area for up to hours later, your tires pick up the stench and brings it with you through the engine compartment! Lastly yes, they are problematic! If you have a doggie door they are known to come into your house at night to get food from your pets! Our county "exterminator" tells us each year to not put food out at night for your animals as that is a real attractant for them to come in.

Our one cat came as a stray kitten so I was feeding outside, we live in rural Pennsylvania, a skunk was eating her food and she came bouncing out of the bushes like she wanted to play…I’m so glad the skunk didn’t spray her…it jumped back when the kitten came out…

@@janetbaker645 Our next door neighbor had a doggie door like we do when a skunk came into their back yard. Their dog went out the door to confront it and got promptly sprayed. He then ran back into the house, directly into their master bedroom where he jumped on their bed and started to roll around in their white comforter trying desperately to get the smell off of him. We see them all the time around March as that is mating season and we see mama's and babies all the time. The county trapper basically has told us to not bother calling him as this is just what they do and we have to learn to live with them. He did say they are notorious for actually entering houses with animals and they get into the food INSIDE. He told us to never, ever feed our pets at night, and especially never leave food anywhere, including indoors for them! LOL

The spray from skunks will also temporarily blind any recipient. They stand on thier front legs doing a little hand stand and spray up over thier backs using thier tails to disperse the spray in the direction of the enemy. So they are the most dangerous when they are facing you. The smell can be detected for a VERY long distance 1.5 miles to up to 20 miles. The spray can travel up to 20 feet. So you dont have to get too close and still get directly tagged. They are very gentle creatures with a heck of a chemical weapons arsenal. They actually put the arse in arsenal😂

Ok, I love your channel and positivity. Disinfectant: have you smelled Fabulosa? Leaves your home smelling wonderful after cleaning! You’re welcome. Abercrombie & Fitch: haven’t been there in years as my children are grown. Never noticed a smell and my nose is very perceptive. Cinnamon: like you we love the smell of cinnamon during the holidays. Pine cones are dipped in cinnamon oil to put near the fireplace, and many traditional holiday recipes have cinnamon. But the rest of the year you only smell it at donut shops where they make cinnamon rolls or Cinnabon, a chain store for said rolls. Skunks: I live in Texas and skunks are nocturnal animals. They are most active when the moon is close to full. It is a regular occurrence to pass a dead skunk and its terrible scent when driving on the extensive highway system. Now, my friend, trust me when I say you do not want to get skunked personally, nor hit one with your car, nor have them spray under your home. There is no bear spray that is more horrible than skunk scent. It will leave you nauseous, vomiting, and eyes running with tears if it happens. It doesn’t wear off for a minimum of a week, usually longer. Oh, I forgot. Don’t let your barking dog get skunked, because that scent does not wash off even after multiple shampoos. Been there, done that, wore that t-shirt. They also are one of the worst for carrying rabies, which is another whole ball of wax. People that keep them as pets have usually had scent sacs removed, if they still do that. Not sure if vets these days would. But my friend, if a skunk turns its backside to you, runnnnnn! 😂. Hope you and your family have the best day ever.

According to an employee of Abercrombie and Fitch, they spray their own brand of cologne on all the clothes in the store. That is why it smells so strongly. You can smell the store about 4 stores away in any direction. One of my favorite comfort foods is to put butter or coconut oil on a piece of toast and sprinkle a mixture of cinnamon and sugar all over it. I know I am not the only American to eat this, though everyone seems to have a different name for it. We do use cinnamon in LOTS of foods, apple sauce, french toast, breakfast cereals, breads, desserts, drinks, even some savory dishes use cinnamon. It doesn't stop there, but I figure you get the idea. I have only seen skunks in real life once in my nearly 40 years of life. I have lived in heavily desert areas too much amd skunks don't love the desert. My sister lived in a house that had a family of skunks living under it. No matter how hard they tried to catch and remove these creatures it never worked. Her whole house smelled of skunk all the time. This meant all her clothing, bedding and other porous items obsorbed the smell. To my undrstanding the liquid that skunks spray does not act like a liquid that can be washed off. It actually binds with the skin and hair and cannot be washed off even after multiple washings with soap and water. Basically it stays until the skin and hair sheds and is replaced with new over time. This process can take weeks. This also helps skunks identify preditors that have been previously sprayed and they can more easliy avoid them in the future.

Skunks can make nuisances of themselves by burrowing under buildings or getting into trash cans, but they're neither as dexterous nor as determined to get into the trash cans as raccoons. People who keep skunks as pets have their scent glands removed; otherwise, it would be impossible to live with a skunk. Skunks typically give some warning signs, like hissing, stamping their feet, and lifting their tails, before they spray. The spotted skunk actually stands on its front legs and does a handstand, the better to aim with its rear end.

Skunks are night animals and feed on grubs. They do live in suburbia, but many people are unaware of them. That is until their dog chases one and gets sprayed in the face. You HAVE to bath your dog with something immediate,y because if you bring it into the house, the house will smell of skunk for days. Even after you bathe your dog, it will carry some of the scent for several days.
Mostly you smell skunks while driving. These are animals that have been killed by cars, and as the body decomposes, the smell os horiffic. If it is near your house, you will (or get someone else to) bury it as soon as possible. Then your shovel will smell for quite a while.

Cinnamon is common in a lot of desserts and some breakfast foods, especially one that use fruit. It is more common in the fall and winter because it is most strongly associated with apples and pumpkins, but you can find it all year round.
Most skunks kept as pets have the glands that produce the scent removed

Skunks are not a problematic as raccoons. They mainly dig small holes in your lawn. And the smell isn’t that bad unless you’re directly sprayed. But they will stink up your dog.

Is skunk odor really that bad? Yes. Yes, it is. However, when traveling by car the instant anyone notices a skunk odor you're supposed to shout SKUNK! and everyone rolls up their windows for the next 5-10 minutes until you pass beyond the source of the odor. Also, the people who keep skunks as pets will very often (always?) have the scent glands removed by a veterinarian. The secretions from the scent glands would contaminate everything as it is very, very had to wash off (especially off of any hapless dog who gets too close to one in the wild.) Oddly, tomato juice is one of the few things that will wash away skunk odor. If I lived in the country on a ranch or a farm, and let my dogs roam my property, I'd keep a case of the big, family-sized, cans of tomato juice on hand, just in case.

Cinnamon is everywhere fall through Christmas in America. It's true. I love it though.
Also, yes skunks really smell that bad. If you get sprayed by a skunk, or more likely your dog, the smell can linger on them for up to a week unless bathed in special soaps or tomato juice.

Here in New Mexico Fall is green chile roasting time. Every grocery store and chile stand roasts chile for their customers and to us the smell is divine. Burning piñon pine in winter is another divine smell. Cinnamon, not so much, though we do use it in baked goods. Lots of skunks around my neighborhood and mating season is the worst for eau de skunk. Skunks are cute, docile little animals who eat bugs and don't bother anyone.

Abercrombie & Fitch was in the mall not far from me and it used to make me gag just walking by. Go in? No way. When autumn comes, everyone starts selling cinnamon-coated pinecones and it’s a nice smell, but it’s sooooo overwhelming! And skunk is bad, but we have skunks around (so cute) and you can get used to it.

12:53 a lot of times if someone has a pet skunk they will have the glands removed. Similar to de-clawing a cat minus the pain that comes with de-clawing.

We had a border collie who had several unfortunate run-ins with the neighborhood skunks. Dog shampoo dies not work on skunk spray! The only thing that helped was to soak his fur in tomato juice . It still took several tomato baths before he could come in the house without making everyone sick.

Skunks are definitely cute. Some people keep them as pets, but they de-stinker (anal glands removed). Based on my experience with ferrets, who are related to, but not as stinky as skunks, removing anal glands is not 100% effective.
They are no where near as problematic as raccoons, but they can on occasion get into garbage.

Abercrombie & Fitch was originally a Sportsman's Outfitter. Set you up with a Hunting or Fishing Trip, or even a Safari. They would sell you all that you needed to go. Clothing, shoes & boots, guns & ammo, tents, you name it. A great, huge Store in New York City.

Yes, BBQ smell is amazing and it tastes even better. Yes, skunk stink is incredibly bad, but if you don't scare them they are cute and don't get into trash. Also they can be de-scented, but since they enjoy their owners when they are pets and would never spray where they live and eat de-scenting is not really necessary. I personally never shop at Abercrombie and Fitch, but their signature scent wafts all over anywhere near their store. While I was in the military I was in Europe several times and there are definitely many differences. Obrigada I enjoyed your comments.

Skunks do occasionally raid people's yards for food, eating kitchen garbage from spilled trash cans, or vegetable scraps and bugs from compost heaps. They usually aren't large enough to topple the cans themselves, but will eat the leftovers from ones tipped by raccoons, coyotes, or stray dogs. Skunks are omnivores, scrounging all sorts of edibles, and can be quite stubborn about standing their ground if they find a rich food source.
Most of the concerns people have about skunks living in their neighborhood are about the risk of dogs getting themselves sprayed and bringing the reek home with them, as well as how skunks are (rarely) carriers of rabies.

When English explorers were approaching the American coastline in the 1600s, they always knew they were nearing the end of their journey when they began to smell the aromas of the forest: trees, leaves; there was actually a smell of green living things that wafted over the sea and welcomed them even before they started to see seagulls, which were the second indication they were getting close. So America really does have a smell, and to weary seafarers, anyway, it was heavenly.

Yeah, skunks are that bad. I was the manager of a manufacturing plant located in an old apple barn. The boss came in early and heard animals fighting under the floor. He stomped really hard and turned out it was skunks. By the time I came in the place reeked of skunk. The boss left and the rest of us opened all the windows and doors and started working. After a few hours I had a headache and felt nauseous. I asked the other employees how they felt, they all were nauseous and had headaches. I called the boss and told him we were all leaving for the day. Skunk spray is chemical warfare, and the skunk always wins ... except against cars. I think that is why they get hit so much, they are fearless little buggers, if you run into one in the woods they don't run, they stomp their feet at you and then turn their back and wave their tail and will spray you if you don't leave fast enough.

For the most part skunks are not very problematic. They are shy and only come out at night. It is not common to see them. We smell them when they get hit by a car or if a dog tries to attack them. The scent on a dog can last for months and if the dog goes into the rain the skunk smell on them gets worse.

I love cinnamon. I don’t put it on everything but it is especially popular in the fall. Many people even use candles that smell like cinnamon.
Funny thing about skunks is there warning signals is the same as dog friend signals, so dogs get sprayed in the face ALL THE TIME.

Skunks are actually quite cute and curious. I’ve had a group of them approach me and I had to keep trying to avoid them, because I didn’t want to get sprayed. But, they aren’t aggressive. Usually, it’s dogs that tend to get sprayed and bring the stench home. A tomato juice bath is supposed to help, but I haven’t had the need to test that theory myself.

Cinnamon is used alot during Christmas, so the smell of cinnamon makes most people happy, and it gets used a lot by retailers. I live in a part of the US with many skunks and the only thing that smells worse is rotten meat or rotten milk. They are very cute and are only a problem when they try and live in your yard. Thanks for sharing this video ☺️🙏

Skunks aren't as problematic as Raccoons. They tend to keep to themselves and don't cause as much trouble, they are less common in urban areas. Raccoons are curious and not particularly afraid of people, so you see them more often.
But, when you are out on a hike and see a Skunk, you absolutely keep clear!

Skunks are usually shy and avoid people so you smell them more often than you see them. Normally the only risk is if you leave food out and surprise one in the dark.
