dan is very wise for his age....... i have worked with mechanics 10 yrs plus older than him that have absoutley no idea. and im a qualified mechanic and i wouldnt know how to refresh an auto properly if it hit me in the face........so fuckin well done
This blokes knowledge on cars is pretty goddamn good
Dan's little pep talk at the start was beautiful.
the best bit of motivational speaking in the first minute. good job mate sometimes you've just gotta jump in and get shit done
Excellent job
What a positive attitude this guy has
Self confidence without being cocky
Great vid !
A man after my own heart.... always a first time and you might fail, but that's how you learn. Nice job!!
This is EXACTLY the sentiment i get when i say design an arduino colour controller or something. "Where did you get the plans from?" i get asked. "i did it myself" i respond. And they say "nah, someone has to have done it before and you used their plans" . No... every single THING you ever touch/see/use/break/fix was originally designed/made/broken/tested by someone who sat down and said "i want to do x" lets see how we go. So I do that. Starting from scratch is not impossible. Nearly everything can be fixed or made given time and motivation. Good work Dan!
Mr. Thorough is Dan’s new name!
Thorough in his work and a thorough explanation to go with it!! Really good video again 🤙
Hey mate, I lost my job at the start of the pandemic in may 2020 and decided to take a diesel mechanic apprenticeship that started 6 weeks ago, your vids are really fast tracking my knowledge.
Cheers love the mullet too pal
Best video from you blokes, old mate did a great job presenting and explaining this do’s and donts and any little trick
Great video Dan well presented and explained
Too right!
Excellent Dan !!!!! You know your stuff inside out ....Its not very often you can be simultaneously entertained and learn stuff but you manage to accomplish this every time 👍👍👍
Found this channel by accident, subbed! What a knowledgeable bloke.
well done, good to see someone not scared to give something a go, finally a youtuber living up to what it means to be a true Aussie
Love it. Usually people would scrap it or go manual conversion, great to see someone keeping a clean classic old patrol on the road and taking the time to rebuild it
Those Holden Trimatics are also known as traumatics for good reason. I went through three "Reconditioned" ones with leaky valve bodies before I changed over to a 4 speed depress.
These old Patrols are so cool, and the trouble so worth it. There is something about Nissan’s, though, that is distinctly more difficult to work on than Toyota’s. I just replaced the clutch, starter, etc, on my old Nissan D21 and it was a bear. The front suspension, exhaust, chassis cross-members, and some of the front steering components had to be removed just to get the job done. Oh, and most of the interior, including the seats. It’s like the car was built as a knitted quilt where they knitted the whole thing all at once, not loop by loop. Nice work, love to see these Patrols back on the road!
We rebuilt the gearbox on my d21 years ago not too hard but anything with a torsion bar front makes it hard as you said having to remove half the front end 😂
Impressive work there Dan and knowledgable. I can't wait to see it running.
Loving this video mate . Huge fan of Dan great bloke
He looks like he has been rebuilding transmissions as a job full-time for years. Great knowledge and great video.
Nice epp with some great info
some ppl just got what it takes in front of the camera and you got it
An auto is a big job, lot's of bolts that only fit in one specific spot. It's very rewarding to do it yourself though.
Kenny Powers knows what's up.
Awesome vid
I haven’t even watched it yet...
But it’s More Aussie Arvos!
You blokes are legends, and Dan honestly your the man at doing shit mate love your work
Looking forward to the next video lads. Great job and solid explanations along the way.... Stellar works!
Subscribed.. purely for the first 2 minutes of the video. We'll spoken
Absolute mad bloke. 😂👍
there are mechanics and there are mechanics you blokes are what stand out above the rest there is no dout you guys will be very successful in your careers soon to be empires its only man made enjoy
Dan is..The Man
I love how much Dan knows and he doesn’t tell ya bull. Great vid as per usual.
Awesome vid mate!!
Thanks Nick!
Good job! I’ve always been super daunted by autos, and I run one (especially older autos), epic effort! Was waiting for the moment of truth though!! Hahahaha!!
Great job keeping them coming . Martin Thailand 😎
Thanks Matin!
Awesome vid guys 🤙
Cheers Nollsy!
Lucky he likes your video or he’d be coming for your misses and your mum 😂
Good stuff guys
Thanks Steve!
Is there anything this rooster can’t do? I’m Fucken impressed.. what’s he do for a living?
Old mate Dan what a bloody legend, seems super chilled. Great video! Fucken dream of doing stuff like this meself, keeping a close eye for a bargain on an old weapon
Tip top job dan
Big up on your rebuild, got to do my NJ Pajero box now. Your vid gave me inspiration to Cary on with the work. Also my 1st auto rebuild. 😎👍👍👍👍
Great video mate. Cheers from nz
just want to say i fucking love your ute i learned to drive in the same one
The only real hard part about rebuilding autos is that none are the same or even similar to other autos
Dan flexing with the damm knowledge bombs. #mindactuallyblown
good work mate top job
Ooft another quality vid boys!
Impressive effort.
Did you film the transmission dismantle/reassemble process? That would make a great video that I would definitely like to see.
Unfortunately we didn’t film the whole process of rebuilding the auto as I did it whenever I had time and it would have been near impossible to capture it all.
@@dantheman7647
Oh well.
I'm impressed by your resolve. I'd like to have a go at it one day too.
Eggy at sde builds a mean convertor. U wont have an issue. Great vid young fella! Cheers
Well what should you do if you have greased that U joint too much on the drive shaft, did a 2 inch lift and thought while I’m under I might as well grease them then watched this a few days later like oh💩, any advice would be appreciated I was thinking if I just switch it out before stuff goes wrong (manual TD42 94) any advise much appreciated
The uni joints are fine it’s the slip joint that’s the one to watch just crack the grease nipple and release any pressure that’s behind it 👍
If man built it man can fix it
Genius!
Thats my attitude on everything. If someone else did it before me why cant i learn how to do it
Hallo guys and many thanks for your video(s)!
Can you specify where from you got your trans repair kit?
There are some in ALI EXPRESS but I don't know if they are genuine OR reliable!
Thanks again, 1991 42TD AUTOMATIC
Wow, well done. I though the converter was pretty much sealed so nothing from that should have got into the tranny. Or have I missed something?
You are missing the fact the converter has trans fluid pumped into it so it works
@@sexyfacenation Yes, thanks for letting me know.
Hectic
Well shit if you can rebuild an auto everything else on the patrol will seem like child's play.
I think I’ll just stick to my manual boxes
WHERE IS THE TEST DRIVE?????
Who the hell disliked this video?😡😡
music was a bit loud this ep boys
got abit excited !
@@AussieArvos so was I just had to change the volume a few times 👍
@@zealith6371 Thanks for the heads up Zealith, ill make sure to mix the audio a bit better next time! cheers mate :)
Mateeeeeeeeeeeee
You could lower the car up lol
There is no such thing as Carnt or won't nothing is impossible. It's just some thing are a little more difficult , time consuming and expensive than others..
There’s 2 main and most complicated thing in the world. The first is automatic transmission and the other one is “woman”. 🤦🏽♂️
Op
I kinda want to rebuild an auto now. Just kidding!! I don't give a fuck.

NEVER use Vaseline on a seal. If you don't believe vaseline can destroy a rubber/neoprene seal, so be it, but prove yourself wrong on a seal that's easier to replace than the rear main :)
In my opinion any seal that was intended for use with petroleum products such as oil or atf will not be damaged by petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and I have used it on many seals.
Both the atsg rebuild manual for the auto and the Nissan workshop manual recommend it.
👍
@@dantheman7647 There are thousands of opinions agreeing with my point of view. If those manuals recommend it, then the OEM gaskets are not rubber or neoprene, but your aftermarket ones could be. It's not as if there is no easy alternative to Vaseline, now is it? Using Vaseline on your condoms is also a good idea, then? Yeah, Nah.
@Ein Felder both neoprene and nitrile rubber are safe for use with petroleum products, latex however is not.
Thanks for your concern
Have a nice day
@@einfelder8262 Hmm, random baseless opinion vs workshop manual, tough choice
@@mikebaz7843 You probably believe the world is flat, too.
