It's cool you guys are showing ppl how to upgrade their old stuff, especially if they are on a budget. My brother was gonna buy my nephew a new unsealed headset for his bike & I had to step in & make him get the mission headset. It rides better than ever.
Literally have learned everything I know about bikes and their parts cause of this dude. Always has the most tedious random information needed when you’re stuck on a build .
been riding for 25 years, and went to mtb recently what this guy is saying is straight true everyone. Very good sound advice!! Did you see the zs44 ec44/40 press in outer for bottom cup to take a tapered fork, and put it onto a non tapered frame. its really cool look it up :)
The Tange MX 320 headset with precision bearings works perfectly with old school 1" threaded forks. I would only have a bike shop install it, because you need to press in the cups, it won't survive banging or a vice, needs a Park Tool headset press to install. Smooth as butter.
@@Patrick_Andrews917 the 720. Frame still holds up with the rest. The pedals and tires gave out quick tho. Went with odyssey stuff. Kinda tired of servicing the loose bearings tho so I wanted to convert to sealed.
Thanks for this. Working on my single speed road bike and realized I might have to change headset types to get a lighter gravel fork on it. You showing everything made it clearer. Now I know at least what I'm looking at spec wise.
My midschool Freeagent stock forks actually came with an integrated race crown, I guess it was ahead of it's time lol. I did cop the Mission conversion headset a while back and it was one of the more, bang for your buck, upgrades.
Great video! Was looking at that headset to convert my 2005 Haro F2! Haven’t rode in about 15 years and pulled out my old bike and started looking into upgrades. Lots of new brands out there now. I feel lost. lol
It’s cool that you did this video so people can convert their old parts to new parts. Cause once they stop making the parts the frame isn’t any good anymore.
I made a vid about this topic. But Phu laying down more knowledge. I haven’t been able to work ona bmx in so long. This has really got me itchin to just tear my whole bike apart just to regrease it.
I still run my Chris King headset on my mid school Hawk with Brand X forks and bars,Jad cranks with Crupi hubs and pedals . Now I ride a custom FBM before they closed shop. Can you do a video on a Trails style of bike and then park street ect...... the difference in the 2 and why. PHU you the man
I remember i had to make my own headset for a dyno compe that was all loose ball bearings in a oversized 1 1/8 headset bearings and cups with a plastic compession ring from a conduit or something in my junkbox that made 1 inch threaded gt forks fit perfectly. Man i Wish they had these headsets, adapters, and converters like 15 years ago.
Hwaaaw thanks for the info! Have a 26er with 1 1/8 headset non integrated and plans to make it integrated. Hope you discuss advantage or disadvantage of the 2 like price handling...
Yeah back in the day I uesd to have a STA model R with a fsa Pig headset on it which had beefier lower bearings plus it was out of my price range but I always wanted a solid bikes headset as it had needle roller bearing which look super smooth!
Great Video!! I got a challenge for you, What is the lightest modern freestyle complete bike can you make? You should do a build video with a parts list...
Sealed bearings on my circa 2000 frame just like a mountain bike 1 1/8 set up but the head tube is straight. Only thing to watch out for is some of those mtb branded headsets can be too fat if you want to run a gyro. I think the angled race being built into the fork is a bad idea. Taking a race off and putting a new one on can be a pain sometimes but it's got to be better than replacing the whole fork. Both of your frames flair out at either end of the head tube. Aren't the both integrated but one takes loose bearings and one sealed?
I been binge watching this your a smart dude dude you should do some wide hubbed bikes to like a Different chapter there ain't much out on them type of bikes jus saying tho
you can hammer out the old cups with a flathead screwdriver, as for installing the new cups i recomend getting a bolt styled press as hammering them in can damage them if you slip up.
@@Fifty_bmx I checked right after I made the comment. They still make it. 16 year old me had to have it because that's what Nyquist used, and he was doing bars with, into, and/or out of everything before everyone else.
Hello Sir! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience. Are you familiar with any conversion kits or or conversion adapter / headset kits that would allow a Trek SLR stem and bar set to fit any road 28.6 headset? Thanks in advance.
So my 2023 Sunday primer has sealed bearings on top and plastic caged bottom bearings. Am I able to just convert the bottom to sealed if I remove the race on the fork and in the steering tube? Or do I have to do a few other mods? I want to get different forks and might as well go full sealed when I do
Id be mad curious to hear about parts or conversion kits that could fit on old road bikes, for example i know some people will use a euro bb to fit bmx cranks on an old road frame to build just a fun bike or for fixed gear especially, lots of fixed gear riders like bmx parts, no one has a channel talking about what can be used from bmx parts.
Wanted to up grade my old school 93 Dyno. My og fork won't work with this set? It's the og 4130 fork and I'm I'm trying to retain as much old with the new tech.
can i ask some question?i have an old japan folding bike and i want to change its headset what can i do to change it or what other types of head set can i use?the one that i have now is a threaded type and the size is 22.2
I've been trying to look for a integrated freestyle headset with a hollow Bolt for the front brake set and I can only find it in Black, is there another company that makes them in different colors like white or yellow, with a white or yellow cap?
Shot for the video and explanation, so the Mission conversion kit is only for frames with 1 1/8" inch headset. I have a Mongoose Supergoose Black Classic Repop which according to the specs is 1". Is there a conversion kit available for 1"?
I have a question, can a Star Nut headset be installed on a INTERNALLY THREADED forks? meaning the forks have threads but they’re inside the steering tube. its from a Haro 26”. I wanted to change the headset but ran into that issue. Please help? thank you
What will I need to convert my old Mongoose Villain frame. I am rebuilding it for my Granddaughter! Let me know what I will need to convert headset, and a new bottom bearing that will accept a 3-piece crank.
Is seat hight important? I usually ride with my seat pretty high compared to what I see online but recently I’ve been getting better at hopping higher and found myself getting hit in the nuts with my seat. Am I doing something wrong with my hop or should I just lower the seat

I got the Jet BMX knockoff from Amazon. Its great for my older eastern.
I love the way phu be sayin “ but look , it won’t wrk “
I'm glad I found this video. Saved me a headache because I was thinking about converting to sealed bearings on my non integrated headset and frame.
I did this to my '99 ep a few years ago. Very simple to understand. I installed odyssey forks with an integrated race and it works awesome.

Tx you explained it wonderfully. Only wish that you would have Installed it on a frame. Watching your assembly videos is so satisfying.
i give thumbs up for the bearing grease you use in your hair
I converted the headset on my fit series one using the Verde Neo conversion kit to fit my odyssey forks and it works very well.
Trying to do same but have OG forks for my series one. Do they have the race or no? Thanks
Finally. Thanks guys. Wanted to do this for a while. Got a mongoose I wanna convert.

Who sell that kit?
idk why but i think i like the tech videos more than riding clips. i think it's cuz there's so much riding and less tech reviews.
Do a shop tour video showing what you've got in stock behind the counter on that wall and in the display cases. Also the completes in stock.
Always coming with best timed videos. I was just thinking about this. Keep it up phu, max, and Alfredo. Liked

Great video! I'm trying to convert my 93 Mach One with a new headset. Will this Mission Conversion headset fit into the Mach One head tube? Thanks!
Great information!! So is there a way to run threaded forks on a integrated frame??? Don’t judge me I’m just asking the question.
I think the mission sti headsets been out for a few years. But it's definitely perfect for wanting integrated headset. Used it on a few bikes
How difficult is it to get the old stuff off and new installed. Special tools, or is there a good d.i.y. method for removal and install? Thanks 🤙
you can hammer out the old cups with a flathead screwdriver, as for installing the new cups i recomend getting a bolt styled press as hammering them in can damage them if you slip up.
You mentioned two types of crown race’s.
What’s the name of the crown race that’s for integrated bearings and ball bearings?
Is that chrome frame a Patterson, and is it for sale 🤔
Yes you can semi sealed headset I’ve used them several times
Do they not make sealed press cup bearings anymore? I've been running an FSA Pig DH Pro on my mid school bikes since I built my first bike in like 01.
Damn! I had that headset! 🔥

Great job! Those epic tees for sale?

Do have a video on placing the cups into the old frame
Is there a kit to convert a 1 inch threaded to 1 1/8 Threadless
There is!! Contact Phu on Instagram instagram.com/_epicbmx
Is there a 32.5 press fit cups that fit in 1-1/8 fork? What have to look for in the headset? It doesnt matter if it is sealed bearing or not. Thanx.
what frame is the chrome frame you are using as a demo ???
what kind of reducee we shoud do if I use thread type fork into an oversized fork?
Any conversation headset and bearing kits for older 1inch threaded frame for 1 1/8 threadless forks?

what about tapered headtube?
Have a question on Inner tubes. Heavy duty vs Non. Heavy duty soo much thicker. Is the weight worth the protection? Pinch flat and thorns
