    My depression took years from my life that I will never get back. With therapy, medication, meditation, and regular exercise I am finally starting to feel "normal" again.
    This channel has been an immense source of hope and inspiration for me in the past year or so.
    Thank you, Dylan.

      I don't know how bad yours was, but besides medication, yes meditation, yoga, and doing daily cardio (it had to be either running or cycling; walking didn't do anything) really helped me! Also the daily exercise was really great for removing generalised anxiety too! If I go a week without any exercise it starts coming back again!

    your thoughts on solitude resonated with me Dylan and I'm grateful that you spoke them ; seventeen years ago I wrote these words - Being at home gives me opportunity to read. I read for short periods of time and during spring and summer I thoroughly enjoyed The Kite Runner (the Afghanistan tragedies).
    Another book I had the time to read slowly and enjoy was The Pleasures of God (by John Piper) reminding me again of the supremacy of God in all things, and the delight that I am to him. I am currently reading Sigurd Olson’s The Lonely Land, a true tale of white-water adventure by canoe down the Churchill river.
    I also get to spend much time at home in solitude and silence, a topic that came up frequently in November; I enjoyed reading Henri Nouwen's book, The Way of the Heart, perhaps because I felt it ‘validated’ my new ‘monastic’ lifestyle: “Intuitively, we know that it is important to spend time in Solitude. We even start looking forward to this strange period of uselessness.” (H. Nouwen)

    This was so nice- I’m remembering sailing basics from my childhood watching this. And alone time: most of my life, vans, mountains or just alone- there’s so much to achieve inwardly/outwardly alone!

    There was a certain calmness expressed in this solo sail by night that was so peaceful. Glad to see you're becoming one with your sailboat. ⚓

    Dylan, again, thank you. Don’t know if I’ll ever go to sea but I sail vicariously in each of your videos. I really appreciate your view on being alone. I have a very quiet place in the woods I can retreat to. Being the introvert that I am I need to go there to recharge on a regular basis. But what you said rings so true with me. Even if I am by myself it is still so difficult to completely unplug and listen to the great “nothing”. It is indeed a practiced art to get there. Thank you again for what you’re doing and for sharing it with us. I always enjoy and learn from your work.

    Some spectacular scenery. something about the way you edit your voice over is really conducive to the sort of deep thinking that you do on your videos. I was shocked to not see one mask in the entire video. Are there no cases in these locations?

    Modern society forces people to work their lives away. Work = stress, stress = unhappyness. So quite simply work makes people depressed and we are forced to work.

    why did you not fly the main to make better time? could have reefed when over canvased.

    • @Dylanmagaster.
      @Dylanmagaster.  2 роки тому

      Because I was single handing. I have to do everything at the mast for the main including reefing. So it’s safer and easier to just use the headsail for a sail like that and I was keeping a decent time with the Genoa.

    • @tedhoppe5918
      @tedhoppe5918 2 роки тому

      @@Dylanmagaster. You were doing a trip I dream about and plannig to make someday on my own boat from California. I single hand a lot myself in some pretty rough waters. I saw the lazy jacks on your main (makes the dropping of the mail sail easy) and mentally noted that having a good reef in the main before leaving the dock would have made your boat bit speed better and safer. Running a jack line and clipping in are all part of safety at sea and are a great part of sailing solo or passage making with crew. I hope you continue to have great adventures, find new places of the world to explore and with good company to share it. Fair winds.

    i am french dermatologist and i can say that , on the right cheek you get a skin disease, whose name in France is Lupus chronique. you need to protect from sun very well.
    not a good new for a sailor.
