  • Norma Kamali's clothing stands the test of time. She has never reinvented herself. She doesn't need to. Her clothes are timeless, and her ideas have always been modern. She was the first woman to do a good sweatsuit, invented the sleeping bag coat, which is simultaneously comfy and cool, cuts the best one-piece bathing suits, and does jersey dresses you can roll up, throw into a carry-on, and be the life of the party when you get there.
Bodysuit and Maxi Skirt: Norma Kamali
    Boots: Peter Doe
    Belt: Max Mara
Earrings and Bracelet: Herve Van Der Stratten
    Ring: Vintage Amarcord
    Bag: Loewe

Dear Carla you may never read this but I just want to say that I think you are fab ! I was born in 62 so fab is okay to use and also I was someone who worked in fashion and have loved like yourself playing with clothing. You know sometimes I have felt as if I have had to almost apologise for just having fun and expressing myself through what I choose to wear. It’s not that I have developed since watching your fun videos but you have just confirmed for me again that you definitely do not have to shy away from being your true self which seams crazy to have to say. My son is 26 and I share these ideals with him so you think I would have them firmly confidently imbedded with myself but life throws you curveball’s and you start to get a little lost … but thanks to you funny stylish wise lady I’m cool again😉

I kept my navy jumpsuit with the big, squarish shoulder pads. I wore it for years with a teensy, shiny, brown belt & teeny silver buckle. I think it looked utterly FAB running around NYC! Great memories. She was an innovator. Love her ideas.

I think it was back in the 80's that I saw Norma Kamali on a talk show, I want to say it was David Letterman but I really cant remember is it was Letterman or Carson. Anyway I was already fascinated with her at that time so I was excited to see her and she was asked if she had really helped her dachshund mate with a female dog (remember her little dog) she laughed and said yes she helped him by getting a book for him top stand on because he was too short LOL! I thought she was adorable and I have never forgotten that story! I still love her!

Thank you for being you and helping us feel the same, be blessed 😇🙏.

She also did the Ethel Mertz dress in sweatshirt fabric. I had the black Ethel. In the eighties. I don’t know what I did with it but it was spectacular. I believe she dated Ian Schrager - co owner of Studio 54 who now owns the Gramercy in NYC. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Norma Kamali had a way of creating very contemporary silhouettes that were at once crazy figure flattering, modern and simple, organic. I owned so many of her things in the 80’s!!!

Carla, may I _please_ beg of you?? Design a line of _those_ belts, the ones that you're wearing in this video? You can design them in your own colours & textures for us to purchase? Maybe the largest part could have a quilted texture to it OR a textured stripe punched into the leather? (there are tools that can achieve this look permanently. I'm sure you know this already but, I'm just excited! Sorry.) Ooooh, could you do something like a dark burnt umber, indigo blue, khaki tan &/or a charcoal... perhaps? Maybe, for the coming fall winter season 2024 or 2025?🤞🍀 OMG where _does_ the time go?
Love you woman, keep on stylin' 💕💕

I was sitting here trying to think of a material that the belt could be made of that would hold its structure, but be comfortable enough to sit down in (love the look of the belt, but can't imagine driving an hour to work wearing it, for example!) Something quilted might just work!

    • @Digitalhunny
      @Digitalhunny 7 місяців тому

@@pjp9383 I was thinking something more long term... like having it _forever._ So, a nice soft leather with a stabilizing inner core of cork, perhaps? It would look amazing & continue to be an amazing piece for the rest of one's life. Heck, pass it onto a younger family member when the time comes!
Personally, I detest no, I _loathe_ pleather, vegan leather, fake leather or whatEVER one wishes to call it. It is thee worst! Well the modern day stuff is. pre90's is still around butm, it is nowhere near the same product that it once was. Today's crap _literally_ falls apart in under 5 yrs. Cause, THAT is what it was _designed_ to do purposefully peel, crumbles & fall to pieces right in your hands so that you _must_ purchase more! Replace the old with brand new that might not exist. You see they think we NEED to continue filling up our landfills with even _more_ crappy fast fashion consumer trash. 😣 Sorry for the rant. I promise I'm all finished now.
In my older age I've truly come to understand that we should always _try_ to pick quality items over the quantity that we have. I _try_ my very best to avoid overly trendy fashion & aim for my classic styles with pops of cheap trendy items. Or I'll make my own trendy pieces from old unused clothing that I have. Doing things this way really is _so_ much better. Not only for the pocketbook but, the landfills & the environment too... and storage I can't stress the storage issues I use to have! 😂😂
