"Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." Only a beautiful heart can express beautiful things. I have begun to rethink Palestrina, Christian art and architecture, Gregorian chant, and the poetry and delicate choreography of the Mass. These heights of human creation (in my opinion, at least) must have sprung from a true and deep love. Rene de Chateaubriand 's Genius of Christianity is a 700 page tome on this theme as it relates to Christianity -- an attempt to show it is true because it is beautiful and excellent. It's an interesting book, written as an answer to the French Revolution. Thanks, Lubna for bringing these ideas back into focus for me🫶
Thank you for your beautiful comment, Jeremy. It is a perfect illustration of your own statement, “Only a beautiful heart can express beautiful things.” 🌸🌷🌺 You are right in what you say about the grandest works of art being born of a place of deep love. Christianity itself is beautiful and excellent, and therefore true, because love is central to it and is one of its distinguishing features. That is why it is so impactful and enduring. I wanted to add to this that it takes a beautiful heart not only to express beauty but also to appreciate it. As within, so without. So, if you are able to recognize God’s beauty in masterpieces of art, architecture, literature, and music-if these things move you-it says a lot about the quality of your heart.
