As a preschooler in the late '60s, Mr. Moose was my best friend. I think my warped sense of humor may be a result of my admiration of him. Thank you Cosmo, I hope heaven rewards you for all the joy you brought to thousands of kids.❤
Originally Mr. Moose was supposed to have golf balls dropped but Mr. Keeshan [who was the exec and star] said a big fat 'NO!' since one can get injured by falling golf balls while ping pong balls just were slightly annoying but made a funny sound falling en masse!
As a small child I was always terribly, terribly curious about what was on the other side of that desk. Sometimes it worked as a stairway into the basement (the Captain and others would mime descending it) but then it was also Bunny Rabbit's home. I suppose in real life there was a recliner for the puppeteer, someplace to mount a copy of the script, and storage for the hand puppets.
I have been watching a lot of old television programing during the 50s on UA-cam. It is pretty obvious that very young children like simple physical comedy. Captain Kangaroo started out on Howdy Doody.
no cosmo did the voice of Mr Moose. He danced for dancing bear and Rollo the hippo.anfd I have not heard Grandfather clock in a long time but he probably did that too.He was also Dennis
counting flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all playing solitary till down with a deck of 51 smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo now don't tell me I've got nothing to do
Grandfather Clock always creeped me out, but he was just another one of the lovable characters on this highly-enjoyable kid's show. I appreciate it even more as an adult.
oh i used to love this just so so much!!! even now the only really cute show that comes on similar to this is PBS kids show called Mustard Pancakes and its so so cute it really would have been great in the seventies but they would hve had to change the title of it.
You think Captain Kangaroo would have caught on at some point. But at least they were only ping pong balls. Not much chance of Captain K. getting hurt. (Thank goodness.)
I used to watch Captain Kangaroo when I was a kid in the 70s. I watched it in the mornings before I left for school. A great show!
The Ping-Pong ball gag never gets old, even after 40 years :)
😂Classic!
I agree
Captain Kangaroo was a big part of my early childhood in the early & mid 70’s.
I wish we had more shows like Captain Kangaroo
This brings sentimental tears to my eyes. I watched this show every morning when I was a little girl.
One of my favorite shows as a kid. Thank you for posting it. Great memories.
I watched this every morning before school.......and Romper Room.........
Millions of kids watched Captain Kangaroo from the 1950s to the 1980s 👍
Fond memories

My show is kind of a throwback to this kind of stuff. I love Mr. Moose.
Brings back a lot of memories. I watched this show religiously growing up in the 70s.
I never failed to laugh at the ping-pong balls!
That moose is a real close talker.
My man, Mr. Moose.
Mr moose and his ping pong balls lol

A part of our childhood just died today. RIP Mr. Allegretti.

Mr. Moose is beyond comparison!!!
The ping pong balls were classic.

I grew up on this, I can't believe how old i'm getting... A whole life time ago...
i love mr moose and bunny rabbie too
The bunny has glasses adorable
Classic TV at it's best.Sadly there aren't any shows like these on TV today
raven lord is right. The gag never goes stale.
HELLO! CAPTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOVED YOUR SHOW WATCHING YOU GROWING UP AS A CHILD.
When I was kid I was sure Captain Kangaroo and Walter Cronkite were the same person because they were on the same channel
the sad part is shows like his and those locally produced are no longer on TV
The Captain and Mr. Green Jeans were the best!
OMG! I forgot all about the ping pong balls! Im 47 i remember this show when I was little.
0:22 - I love the double take by Bunny Rabbit & Mr Moose! Grew up with The Captain Dancing Bear & Mr Green Jeans.
Mr Moose sounds like Jackie from the Howard Stern Show lol
Lord, no wonder I am such an obnoxious person. I got my personality from the moose.
Both of us, Buddy!
It makes a lot of sense now.
Sure......blame it on the moose.......just kidding.....
😂
Yeah………yeah…..yah, yah, yah!
I miss this show!!
This takes me back more than 49 years!
LOLLC (laugh out loud like crazy)! Mr. Moose said "ping pong ball drop"! *laughing like crazy* THAT"S SO FUNNY! ROTFL (Roll on the floor laughing)!
And the captain might had said " No!" Than came down the ping pong balls !good thing captain kangaroo had a hard head!
All I can say is... Good morning Captain.... and thank you.
Ping pong balls! How hilarious!
At least it wasn't BOWLING BALLS!
Originally Mr. Moose was supposed to have golf balls dropped but Mr. Keeshan [who was the exec and star] said a big fat 'NO!' since one can get injured by falling golf balls while ping pong balls just were slightly annoying but made a funny sound falling en masse!
" Something Funny ? Funny How , what so funny ? What Funny like a Clown ? "
" Clarabelle "

I'll be seeing you after the ping pong balls drop! Classic!
I loved this as a child. Then again, I was rather... odd.
R.I.P. Bob Keeshan, R.I.P. Hugh Branum, R.I.P. Cosmo Allighetti
I'd forgotten about the rabbit with the red frame glasses.
Ahhhhh... the Good Old Days when you can put a sock with buttons for eyes over your hand(on national TV) and actually believe it's a living character.
I have been watching a lot of old television programing during the 50s on UA-cam. It is pretty obvious that very young children like simple physical comedy. Captain Kangaroo started out on Howdy Doody.
Rabbit's like "Whoa, back off, moose"
When I was four or five years old, I thought Mr. Moose and Bunny Rabbit were real
Used to watch this everyday!
no cosmo did the voice of Mr Moose. He danced for dancing bear and Rollo the hippo.anfd I have not heard Grandfather clock in a long time but he probably did that too.He was also Dennis
Funny when I was five, still funny at age 50-something.
And once you see it again it takes you back to when you were a kid as if you didn't grow up at all
I was really bummed when I figured out Mr. Moose wasn't real...
When TV had something to watch
You know Mr. Moose sounds a lot like Kermit the Frog!
I forgot about his sideburns!!! LMAO!!!!
From 1985?
counting flowers on the wall that don't bother me at all playing solitary till down with a deck of 51 smoking cigarettes and watching captain kangaroo now don't tell me I've got nothing to do
They don't make 'em like that anymore!
Ain't that the truth!
didn't get "Abyssinia" joke. 72 years old. I watched the show c 1959
@@thomashernandez8700 I didn’t quite get it either, lol. Maybe something like: I’ll-be-seeing-ya ?
Remember Mr. Green Jeans as "Silly Billy"?
RIP Cosmo Allegretti....aka Mr Moose and Bunny Rabbit
I was 4 when this was on the air, and it came on before sesame street.
47 years old and I watched this as a kid
I loved Captain but am looking for video of waking Grandfather Clock.
Grandfather Clock always creeped me out, but he was just another one of the lovable characters on this highly-enjoyable kid's show. I appreciate it even more as an adult.
Greg the Bunny!!
Why aren't these old shows on DVD?
I bet Captain Joe Hazelwood and Captain Kangaroo were good drinkin buddies
where can we find full epesodes?
I think ping pong balls really should fall out of the sky, at the appropriate moments. It is so nonsensical that it makes perfect sense.
I always wondered why they tried to push Clara Bell the Clown as a Captain.
Man, we were hard up for entertainment in those days.
I Loved Watching This Show :)
Ping pongs my favorite
oh i used to love this just so so much!!! even now the only really cute show that comes on similar to this is PBS kids show called Mustard Pancakes and its so so cute it really would have been great in the seventies but they would hve had to change the title of it.
I feel a ping pong droppings coming!
😂😂🤣🤣
Mr. Green Jeans!
I think Captain did all there voices
Does anyone remember the Beatles Knock off that was on Captain Kangaroo?
I'd wager that ping-pong balls are eaiser to clean up & can be reused.
I have this show on video! :D
That's a real bunny?!?
Dirtbag! And then you quote the great Sam Kinnison to boot!
Back in the days when children's shows were innocent.
I watched as a kid
You think Captain Kangaroo would have caught on at some point. But at least they were only ping pong balls. Not much chance of Captain K. getting hurt. (Thank goodness.)
great shows
great! awesome!
mr bunny rabbit is cool.
No. No. No, no, no.
XD
does anyone know the answer to this.why ping pong balls instead of confetti or snow?
