I saw this theory posted in NicoNico:
a user theorised that Sense was meant to be the final boss for this dungeon to be made by the Spiegel, but Frieren's mana is so much greater than Sense that Frieren got cloned as the Final Boss instead.
How is that supposed to be a theory exactly? Sense was never supposed to be the final boss because Frieren was always meant to tag along into the dungeon 🤡🤡🤡
@@elstrangeenemy887 No, it does make sense (no pun). In any other year the Proctor would be the strongest mage in the test and therefor the mostly likely to be selected as the final boss. That's why in the next episode Serie says that the inclusion of Frieren in the test resulted in an abnormal amount of students passing (although in the end Serie apologizes since she ends up passing so many of them herself). Sense, like the other first class mages, sees Frieren as a skilled mage but nothing more. Only Lernen had an indication how powerful Frieren was. So it's natural that Sense wouldn't consider that Frieren might be significantly more powerful.
@@wow_horac4663 Sense literally saw Frieren destroy Serie's barrier, Sense was well aware that Frieren was stronger than herself just based on that and could have changed the test in advance EASILY... Serie said Frieren was an abnormality because clearly she considered most of the attendees below her standards (Not of power only mind you, but of mentality towards magic as well; hell she was gonna turn down Denken) and that they only passed because Frieren was there (Which wasn't true, Denken even stated that if everyone jumped Frieren's clone at the same time they would result victorious but majority of them would die...). Serie even ends up APOLOGIZING to Sense because it turned out power isn't exactly everything to her, what matters more is the mentality of a mage (Which is why she will never approve of Frieren)
Again the "Sense was supposed to be the final boss" holds no grounds on the fact that she was well aware Frieren was stronger or at the very least more skilled than her from the previous test... If anything Sense chose the tomb BECAUSE Ubel would have hard countered her, but not Frieren

this show is a shonen though.
@@druidicdwarf Yeah, but it doesn't feel like one. It feels more mature and thoughtful than the average show for excitible pre-teen boys.
I think it’s wonderful that it has something for everyone.
