Has anyone thought about if the stars "disappeared" due to light pollution from the erd tree? The stars might not actually be gone but simply not visable, thus being conquered.

It could also be tied to the use of the rune of death. If the stars are considered celestial bodies that contain actual life then it's possible that General Redan somehow used the rune of death to "conquer the stars". If the power of the Elden Ring was being abused in that way then the ppl who stole the rune of death might be tied to the Raya Lucaria academy.

Man, I can't wait for Elden Ring. I'm currently almost done with Bloodborne (first time) and have fun piecing together my own understanding of the events and lore, before delving right into the lore videos. With Elden Ring, it'll be the first time I get to play and experience a Fromsoft game and the community and lore hunting on release.

Idk why but your take on this really reminds me of the emergence of science and it's conflicts with the Catholic church in the past. Just the way how the Carians essentially had great power and slowly lost it's authority and influence due to the surging Raya Lucarian academy. Kind of how the Catholic church slowly lost it's foothold and power due to the Age of Enlightenment. The motif of loss of ancient and primordial powers due to new and emerging powers is certainly a theme that can be seen throughout the whole game. This side of the story feels like just a small snippet of what is likely to be a recurring motif for what's left to be discovered about Elden Ring's history. Overall, this is probably my favourite video I've seen about this topic. Very thorough and well explained. Great job!

This is turning out to be very grand and mysterious. For some reason I keep getting visions of the Duke's Archives in DS1, imagining the libraries of Raya Lucaria. Something like Baldur's Gate and other classics. A feeling of a chill running up the spine, a sense that one is encountering a level of craft and love of detail to history that is about to blow all other games out of the water. Elden Ring will be an interactive novel, more than a game.
Thank you very much for elucidating this info. I didn't play the CNT or read much afterwards. This information is a precious distillation.

The thing about the telescope is really cool. Imagine if you could restore the larger telescope by using the smaller one you pick up. That would be the coolest use of the binoculars item in any souls game. Especially if it teleports you to space to fight a boss. I have a feeling that we might be going to space at some point in the late game as it is.

Definitely interesting. It kind of seems like the real mysteries of the world are about the cosmic era and the lunar queen and how that era came to an end and the runes that are the elden ring were created. It's also worth noting that general radahn is the very last piece of info we get chronologically. Him fighting the girl with the prosthetic arm is the last event that leads to the current state of the world that we play through so it's entirely possible radahn didn't conquer the stars until after the academy had come and gone.
Radahn himself is quite interesting because he is tied to gravity magic and his incantations literally bring down meteors. It's possible he was able to use gravity to rip the stars from the sky directly. It's also entirely possible that the stars of elden ring are not giant balls of burning gas many light years away but instead glowing stones floating in the sky.
Another possibility is that before the erdtree there was another great tree that grew into the sky and that it's fruits were the stars in the night sky. Golden amber from the erd tree and glintstone from the sap of the lunar tree.
Honestly theres too many possibilities at this point but I'm quit excited to find the answers. I hope we get to face off against both marika and the lunar queen. I wonder if Melina could be the lunar queen robbed of her memories belonging to the lunar tree where merika is the maiden of the erd tree, literally born of it, and able to convert it's power to runes.

    • @MATCHLESS789

I'm just spitting this out (too lazy to write a 10k word essay explaining it) but I think Elden Ring is essentially Light and by extension the law of causality, aka rules and rhythm of the world. I think stars disappeared with it being shattered.
It commanded the stars, it gave life its fullest brilliance, it is the source of the Erdtree, which bestows Grace, which is the light of the Greater Will. I think Melina is the avatar of the Erdtree - she is burned and bodyless, she was given her purpose long ago by her mother inside the Erdtree, and is now purposeless. What purpose Will has if there are so consequences for your actions?
Will is what gives life fullest brilliance, and Will was "birthed" by the Elden Ring, which is essentially a giant feedback loop, or a ring if you will - you actions have consequences which feed into further actions, which lead into further consequences, and on, and on..
Also, Elden literally means light, luster in Manchu.

  • @MATCHLESS789
    @MATCHLESS789 2 роки тому +9

I had a different take on this, I'll try to be brief cuz it's a youtube comment, but since you've read all the item infos you should be able to piece it together of why I think what I think.
I think Carian royal family lived in the Temple In The Sky and when it fell they were forced underground, to what we now know as Eternal City. This is what caused the "disarray" of the family. Raya LuCARIA is the resurgence of CARIAn ancient arts, probably from a previous age when there still were stars in the sky. Karolos is the forefather of Raya Lucaria, great white stone king and thus these sorceries and Gravitas was one of his abilities, meaning he wasn't forefather of just regular sorceries.
Here comes the tinfoil hat part of the theory. I think Karolos is the Moon or the avatar of it. Glintstone - glint stone, reflective stone, like the moon. Moon's gravitational force affects us even on Earth. Carian family valued meteors as much as they once valued the stars, and if they did live in the Temple in The Sky it could be a sort of Flight of Icarus meets Tower of Babel story of them trying to reach a celestial body, the moon, and being punished for such great ambition, which is a big theme of the game.

Easily the most interesting aspect of Elden Ring's pre-launch lore for me. A more wonderous view of the cosmos, harnessing the power of the stars for science and magic, is a noteworthy contrast from the Lovecraftian influences in Bloodborne. Hearing Rodan addressed as the "conqueror of the stars" set my mind running. I wonder if the branches of the Erdtree connect to other bodies in the universe, and that's how the interdimensional travel of Yggdrasil will be adapted? Note too that amber is a real world material, containing preserved remains of ancient flora and fauna. This might further support that the Erdtree's branches extend to other worlds, it's possible Glintstone cracks and falls through dimensions. Either way, I cannot WAIT to find out more, seeing as I'll no doubt be running an INT/STR build my first run through!

I wonder if maybe the glintstone gains its power by absorbing the light from the stars. It would make sense given its name, "glint" being a word about the light catching on something shiny and reflective. Perhaps these crystals spent thousands and thousands of years reflecting the light from the stars and thus it imbued them with the magical energy of the stars themselves.

I've been hyper fixating on Elden Ring discussion a lot recently, but I've never subscribed to any of those Dark Souls channels. My interest in games is how people react to, play with, and interpret their contents, not purely the games themselves. So after hearing how insightful and unique your views and takes on Elden ring and other games were, I couldn't help but subscribe. While Elden Ring is definitely an interest I'll follow intently, but probably never play unless the modding scene is good, I know that I'll enjoy this gem of a channel's content regardless of the topic you take on in the future.

Maybe the Elden ring is a type of star, seen as though the stars are said to be alive and have their own motivations. Maybe the Elden ring is a star that got to the people first and converted them to its own order. I'm thinking that's why the Elden beast can use magic that mimics glintstone and cosmic energy (he has a similar attack to Astel the malformed star as well) 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ thoughts?

Something cool i've pointed out on vaati's video I think, is how General Radahn's swords bear runes much like our diagrams of magnetic forces. Someone replied saying that it looks like a diagram of planetary magnetic forces, as the centre is a circle, with the lines concentrating on the top and bottom of the circle.
General Radahn conquered the stars, but the question to me is what were the stars? Other planets and other worlds? Or simple manifestations of light, far out of reach of any ordinary being. Perhaps the manifestations of a power before the Elden Ring.
How did General Radahn conquer the stars? Did he drag them from the sky, Did the Erdtree grant him such power? Or was he simply involved in their disappearance?

To me glinstone is a reference to the fact that everything is born from the stars. If you go back far enough all matter came from the stars so it would make sense that there would be some sort of primordial energy that taps into this current. Everything started as helium and hydrogen billions of years ago and as time went on, more complex elements were created which eventually led to starts, planets, systems, galaxies which eventual led to life.

mmmm. idk. i think the idea that glintstone doesnt come from the sky is really unsupported. like there is zero backing evidence that it doesn't. assuming the star "star" mean relatively the same thing it does in real life (as in, they are celestial bodies of some description). if glintstone is the residual life of the stars, it would HAVE to come from the sky as that's where the stars are. as for the "why have glintstone if you have meteors already" you could simply say they are different names for different materials, despite coming from the same place. maybe not all meteors contain glintstone, or only a small part of a meteor would be considered glintstone. this is similar to who we name things in real life. or glintstone could like comets, being "frozen" or crystalized star life(not really caring for correct names, just the idea) that fall from the sky, whole separate from meteors. it just seems that, while there's not conclusive proof, theres alot more supporting evidence that it comes from the sky then not.(though...its not really that much evidence regardless)
now to counter my own counter, a theory on it NOT coming from the sky: two things stick out to me. "amber" and "residual". amber comes from fossilized resin that can be exposed by wounds on a tree, among other ways. and residual is the little remaining and most of a material has left. so its possible that glintstone is the effect of radiation from dying star/supernovas that send bits of life energy(the "resin") across space. the life that hits the realms between seeps into the land and "fossilizes" into glintstone, or stone that has absorbed the light(life) of the stars. this could also have come about as a result of what ever "conquering" happened before the golden order. if the were actually destroying stars, its possible the caused residual star life to enter the realms between.
then after studying it, the noticed its connection with the stars (hopefully I explained that well enough).
who knows it could be something completely unheard of and off the wall and im super excited to find out. will be great to have another content creator who thinks about and engages in the lore discussion. cant wait to see where it goes!

I may suppose that maybe the telescope description has another meaning. The astrology itself is a tool that was used by the members of Carin Royal family and it was a part of larger instrument (Order of Stars), when sorceries indeed were useful. The fact that there is also a hint that Carin Royal family predates the Erdtree (aka Golden Order) means that before the Golden Order there was another one. It also explains Ranni's disdain for golden order as her Age of Stars that predates the Golden Order was removed and stolen away.
There is also a correlation with Dark Souls thematics....in Dark Souls the ring means to chain something as you mention (Ringed City, The ring of fire around curse mark, Ringed city knighth armor etc.) By this idea it is possible that once again, the Elden Ring before The Shattering was chaining the world in stagnation, which by Miyazaki's idea of things is unnnatural.
If we consider The Elden Ring as a sucessor to the Dark Souls timeline the Painter created a "dark and gentle place" which is also reffered to the Age of Stars predating the Golden Order.

Are you a fan of G.R.R. Martin's works as well, by any chance? Since your analyses emphasize a more thematic and conceptual look at the narratives and lore of these games, do you think Elden Ring will draw from ideas and patterns present in any of his works or writing style and form? It'll be interesting to see if there is an effective intertwining of Miyazaki and From's thematic and ambiguously metaphorical storytelling style with Martin's own central themes that are apparent in some of his literature (even beyond A Song of Ice and Fire).

Statues in Roundtable Hold with Erdtree saplings in their hands, symbol from the trailer and the altar piece in Stormveil Castle makes me think there are 8 lesser Erdtrees in total and (stop reading if you haven't seen the leaked early concept map!) it caught my attention that the only tree other than The Erdtree marked on the leaked map was one far to the south beyond the sea. It also looks like there was a bridge connecting it to a path which connects all other Lesser Erdtrees on the mainland.
I think there might be a story there. Personally I think our (Tarnished) ancestors took their sapling and planted it beyond the sea. That's where we seem to be starting the game, that's where the Tarnished are returning from, after all. I assume there's a "kingdom" established near every lesser Erdtree. Maybe originally there were 8 branches of the royal family. Carian, Marika's clan, Godfrey's clan, Wolf-men, etc.
    Just something to think about.

This is just a demo for now and still there astonishingly numerous lores inside, I can’t wait for the release of the game.
This is obvious the lore of the whole is enormous, more than some Dark Souls games reunited.
I’m so hyped, I will watch religiously each of your lore videos when it will come.

From the teaser trailer they said "...That which commanded the stars...giving life it's fullest brilliance. The Elden Ring" and now we know General Radahn is known as the Conqueror of the Stars. Maybe there is a connection? I the lore we have gotten so far can't wait for the full release.

The 'life of the stars' is interesting though, this could mean were talking about aliens of some kind or some cosmic horror elements. The age of the Erdtree was maybe brought in to distance the lands between from these outside cosmic forces, keep it's citizens under control. Might be completely wrong but it's just my thoughts.

For me outside of the stuff having to do with the Golden Order the Raya Lucaria stuff was the next thing that had my interest. I even picked Enchanted Knight for my CNT play through. Thank you for this well done video. You get a sub from me.

Cool video; the speak of organisms within the glintstone or at least their remains gives me genuine hope for sci fi fantasy elements hidden in the late game that is now disguised as high fantasy, like how Bloodborne initially presents as Victorian horror but developed I to Lovecraftian horror.

The glintstone being the amber of the stars kind of reminds me of how many of our precious metals come from the process of nuclear fusion that happens at the core of our stars.

Great video/analysis, though I'm a little surprised you didn't touch upon red glintstone and the blood sorceries and how the Raya Lucraian academy seems to loathe blood magic. Unless you already have plans to make a separate video about it.
