I don’t care what you cook. I just want to listen to you talk! Your voice/accent, just made me smile with joy! Thank you! And this dish looks delicious! 💕
I used to go for ride-alongs with a Scottish veterinarian in Newfoundland and his accent was something I could listen to all day and night long. No matter what he was talking about.
I just wanted to tell you thank you because I refer to your video often to cook this recipe! Food is the main way in which I feel like I really get to connect with and respect my ancestral roots. xxx
Your accent makes me homesick...... I was born in England but my family are from the Highlands originally and I called Auld Reekie my home for many a year, even started getting a wee accent masel..... Smashing....
i really appreciate your video format - concise and friendly, without overexplanation or fake overhyped chatter. this made me super happy and feeling like i should go grocery shopping tomorrow :)
It's so interesting to me that Scotland has such different areas within it. I spent three years living in Fife and not once did I hear of this dish. It looks delicious and ill give it a try. So nice to hear your accent, I miss Scotland so much!
I do a 'Christmas dinner' rumbledethump on Boxing Day. Leftover roast potatoes, all of the brussel sprouts that people refused to eat; roasted carrots, parsnips, stuffing, bit of turkey. Chop it all up in the magimix. Season and form into a pattie and fry them. Serve with slices of turkey. They all love it!
This video just warmed my heart, no end! Missing my Scottish granny... And don't you just love how she says Bye twice? LOL It's been real cold out here in Montreal this week so I'll try the dish, although without the ham and seasoned with sea salt and a touch of cracked black pepper. Cheers!
Was looking for something to pop in the oven & fell across your posts!...never ever heard of Rumbledethumps!....& I'm from there!/here!/ Scotland ! gonna give it a go at the weekend as a Winter warmer..wish me luck !
@@WhatsForTea gawn yersel hen .just learned this today..always thought it was bubble n squeak.. and learned about clapshot Aswel 🏴❤️🏴❤️🏴
Just when I was wondering what to do with the cabbage in my fridge during our -25c weeks in Canada. Root veggies are what we have during lockdown. Big thank you for this idea!
I had to click to find out what a dish with such an awesome name could possibly be! Looks great. And easier than bubble and squeak too. I’ll give it a try when cabbage comes back into season.
What a terrific recipe! Hubby and I are trying to cut back on meat so this is perfect: hearty, hot, filling, and we can add more or less meat as we want. Subscribed!
American south here - this is great for using kale too, make this often in winter. (PS: had a glaswegian boyfriend years ago - your voice reminds me of his Mum's, so nice to hear after so many years)
Thanks for showing us your lovely cooking. I've made this for years and I love it. I like that you added the ham to it, I'll try that next time instead of the bacon I always use. Your's looks absolutely delicious.
Don't know why this was suggested, but I'm glad I took the time to see it. I'm a 64 year old American-Mexican, not familiar with Scottish food, but since I love cooking, and this looks delicious... I will be making it soon. Truly loved the video.
I will have to try this. I usually fry my potatoes cut in rounds with onions then I add the cabbage once the potatoes are browned but not all the way tender and some ham cut in cubes. Cover and stir to make sure the cabbage gets cooked. A crusty loaf of bread and you have a meal. I bet the beets would be delicious with it.
Being English I cannot get those well known types of Scottish potato: "modest paper" and "hang edwards" Shall have to use King Edwards instead... a later king not any Edwards that need hanging if you are Scottish....
I fry bacon cabbage and onion together, cook egg noodles, mix those in with sum garlic and salt and pepper and serve it over mashed potatoes, it’s so addicting! Very close to this! Awesome👍🏻
Rumbledethumps; nope never heard the word before... actually the title brought me here and stayed for Tea. Irish colcannon sounds like a religious ceremony and Bubble and Squeak a couple of dancing girls or two of the Queens corgis. Looking forward to the 10mins and time spent in your kitchen :) Oh just might give this a go, looks delicious!
It's so tasty Christine....really easy to make too! The more ham, the tastier it is :) Just don't add *TOO* much potato or it can be a bit bland :) Thanks for stopping by x
I’d never heard of Rumbledethump. My wife is from Glasgow and I asked her if she’d heard of it and she said she had. My next question was why she hadn’t made it for me! She said she didn’t think I’d like it. Needless to say, it’s on the menu this week sometime.👍
margaret davis That’s what we call it ‘down south’. Usually made from left overs if you were lucky enough to afford a roast on a Sunday when rationing was on. No cheese available or ham in those days and nothing wasted either.
New sub here. This is my kind of cooking - sort of making it up as I go along but with an end result in mind! I'm English but have Irish, Scottish and Welsh family (don't most Brits!?) so the accent is an added bonus. x
I also put carrots, swede and parsnips in, but I need to try it with ham. I quite often top my cottage or shepherds pie with it. I used to make this for my mother in law, because she didn’t like vegetables so I hid the veg in my rumbledethumps and she would eat it with meatloaf.
I'm not even going to make these I'm just going to go where she is, talk to her and I beg her to make them for me. (I meant tuck me in, read me a bedtime story, and lull me off to sleep. what a wonderful brogue!!!)
This brings back so many good memories. My granny used to make this and serve it with haggis and clooti. There were never any leftovers. I'm going to subscribe to see what else you have for tea. :)
Nancy Fenity In the netherlands we are used to a couple of vegetable-potato-stamps: a carrot-onion-patato stamp that is called ”hutspot” and also famous is a potato-kale-stamp with little bacon cubes and served with a special kind of smoked sausage. And then there is the stamp with potato and raw endive...hmmmm delicious, but for people outside The Netherlands often weird looking dishes.
Making this for dinner tomorrow (though I do want it right now!) I have all the ingredients in my pantry. My family (MacIlwraith) is from Skye. I live in the USA, and hoping to see our family's homeland someday. xo Laurie
I think instead of using the ham (or in addition to) I'd add some crumbled fried bacon or lardons. That's what I'm going to do when I make it for dinner tomorrow. Leaving the cheese off and frying in patties. Serving it as a side with pork chops. Thanks for the recipe!
Thanks again for sharing. This wAs interesting ...I’ve never heard this before so must be a scottish boarder tradition...but def gonna start making it up here
Don't know what's better. The dish or the accent

Aw thank you :) That's lovely to hear! Thanks for watching
Did anyone else "hear" her answer in her lovely accent? 😊
I never knew how much I needed to hear a Scottish person say bubble and squeak until today
There is something relaxing about the Scottish accent. It reminds me of a warm fire place and a home feel and fresh baked bread and soft rain.

I'm in the US, and had to look up the conversion for the oven. So, a gas mark 6 is about 400°F.
Yes :) Sorry about that! I keep forgetting to convert...but thanks for watching!
204.444°C
I’d bake at 375 and just keep an eye on it. Everything is cooked, essentially youre just melting and roasting the cheese:)
@@elainenextdoor Well perhaps but thats why we have BROIL to brown it up =)
No, I think it is probably 100 degrees for each mark. So mark 6 means 600 degrees, sounds about right.
