    That was awesome! I am going to try this. I spent 166 dollars replacing one of these tires. Never in a million years would I have thought to replace the valve stem and core. Thanks for the video. Subscribed.

    Not that this was "rocket science" but you did an exceptional job as you were clear, explained things very well and did not leave anything out. Most people, can't explain the function of a toothpick let alone anything else. :) Unfortunately there are many professors in universities that can't explain things to save their lives. They are geniuses in their field but "the village idiot" as teachers. And... too many have an attitude on top of that....

    I have the same snap-on tool. I work on some cars too. I've had a small leak in riding mower tires. I do the suds thing like you. I had a blade of grass stuck on the rim one time that caused grief. I also had a thumbtack get stuck in a tire. That one bubbled real slow. It was too small for a plug. I took an air compressor & blew patch glue through the hole. Then I cut a patch to go in the tread on the outside. Luckily it was in the middle of the tread. It still is holding until this day.

    Very good point Cymbal man.
    Now I need to watch your videos on how to get rid of annoying Crab Grass in the deep south. Very tired of it. Going into August is probably not the best time to embark on said mission I have a feeling. The stuff has grown thick and is embedded. It's a yard predominantly of the stuff. Spray from Walmart did NOTHING. A name brand one too. Nothing at all. Not anything.

    Every time air is added or tire pressure is checked, the valve should be checked for leaks. In the case of a chronic slow leak that should be first. Valve cores can intermittently stick.

    I had one on front of a lawn tractor that had a slow leak. I even completely submerged it on 2 occasions. Finally I pulled the valve core and found it broken and it only leaked while I was using the mower. It took a while to find that one

    I didn't see you put soapy water around the valve and valve core. also when you put the soapy water around the valve it is a good idea to move and bend the valve stem from side to side to make sure it isn't leaking between the rim and stem

  • @rickeggers644
    @rickeggers644 2 роки тому +1

    Before pulling the tire and the valve stem, I usully apply soap solution to the valve core before pulling it. Many times bubbles are made by a leak that can sometime be fixed by simply tightening the core...... or replacing it with a new one.

  • @Rein_Ciarfella
    @Rein_Ciarfella 2 місяці тому

    Actually, you should remove the valve cap and apply soapy water to the stem itself. Sometimes all that’s needed is the valve core to be screwed in a little tighter.
    Also, apply soapy water to the edge of the wheel on both sides and around the sides of the tire. The leak can be from the tire bead where it seats into the rim or it can be from cracking around the sides.

  • @RedGoatBlack

    So if i screw the core stem to check how does it fit with the slotted part and the tyre?

    I have a spray bottle of window cleaner in the garage I use to clean the car windows. I spray it on tires with a suspected leak and it bubbles up fine when sprayed on a leaky spot.

  • @ngzcaz
    @ngzcaz 2 роки тому

    First thing we'd check is the valve stem by taking the black cap off and putting salvia across the stem. Same principle only quicker, if it makes a bubble and blows it out you found it.. After that the soapy water. A third possibility and a real pita is a leak between the rim and the side of the tire.

    This isn't how to fix a slow leak, it is how to replace a leaking valve stem.

    Wheel rim edge at the tire bead is another common location of slow leaks. And although sealing an air leak at the bead can't typically be done without a tire machine, it's something that bears mentioning. My 2 cents. Well done video otherwise.

    • @e.t.preppin7084
      @e.t.preppin7084 2 роки тому

      That’s what my first thought was that my tires were slowly leaking at the bead. Guess I’ll try replacing the valve cores first 🤔

      What do you suggest I do with a slow leak I can't find on a new Ariens Ikon 42XD front caster wheel. Brought tire to a tire shop here in st charles MO to have a tube put in I got for it, and the tire shop owner said his machine couldnt even remove the tire off the rim. Blows my mind and I dont wanna spend $100 on a damn wheel it's brand new under 30 hours garage kept and no damage at all to the tire visually.

    • @432b86ed
      @432b86ed 2 роки тому

      @@cashen7384 Have you sprayed soapy water on it yet in order to pinpoint the trouble spot? If the leak is truly at the bead then have the tire shop get the bead off the wheel (if you can't diy)and then brush some permatex gasket maker around the joint. If the tread area is leaking, plug it with a tire plug - assuming it's not a tubed arrangement - in which case use a can of fix-a-flat on it. A tube will be thinner at the stem than a standard tubeless tire.

    Thats the most basic tire leak, most often happens around the rim, should title the video "how to replace tire valve" nothing to do with a slow leak. Those valves basically NEVER fair. More common to fail with A/C systems with higher pressure not in a mower with 5-10 psi lol.

    • @SilverCymbal
