Great review!!! As i'm just starting out as an older rider, this review helped me tip the scales and deiced to go purchase the 2017 model yesterday. Also got them to change the exhaust with a Vance & Hines Competition slip on... Gives it that more Harley sound. Cheers!
Mate I've owned my street 500 for a while now and it's the best thing I've been on. I spent so much time trying out bikes from the Honda vt400 to the Yamaha v star 650 and the volcan s and many more but all of them lacks one thing its just not a Harley and what the street 500 brings to me is that feeling of when I was a kid seeing a big Harley rolling down the street you wished you was him. But all so the Community of joining with the Harley owners group "HOG"s you make life time friends and that's what Harley's are about Ride it every day and hang with your friends. Oh and mine is fully worked motor and Vanicen Heinz and it's the best sound you can get without spending to much money if you ever want to ride with the Sydney hogs come down to Harley heaven on the first Tuesday night of the month and join up Stay safe and stay up
Hello from the US. Very good honest review. I recently bought the Street 750 and I love it. This is my first Harley. I've been riding sport bikes and dual sport bikes for some 35 year and I adapted to the 750 really quickly. Harley made it very easy to take the stock muffler apart, so I did and modified the baffle a little.....sounds much better now but still not too loud. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful review . Yes, you are correct, the US versions are built in Kansas City, but I would have still bought it if mine was built in India.
I test rode this bike today and the 750. I did like the extra power of the 750 but this will also be my first bike and wanted something smaller to start out on.
Hey, great review. I intended to buy this bike after seeing your review. When I got to the dealership the sales guy said, "What about the Street Rod? It's a much better bike." So I test rode the Street Rod and bought it without hesitation. I love the aggressive looks and sporty performance. The engine is quiet, but since it has cam chains instead of push rods it's understandable.
I'm an older(58)first time rider. I like the Street 500 & 750 MC's. At 5'8" tall, I think they'd be just the right height and "oomph" for a first, and, starter bike. I believer after '18 they were built in St. Louis, Missouri's plant. I'll be looking at a 2019 or 2020 model myself. After that, I go for the 883 model. Doug🏍️🤓👍🧸😁
I test rode a 2015 today and fell in love with this bike! This will be my first bike and I felt so comfortable riding it. I'm kind of a big guy, 220 pounds and it had plenty of power to get moving and getting up to highway speeds.
You sir are a fantastic reviewer thanks! I'm an older new rider and I'm considering this bike as an entry into the Harley family. One question does it have enough power for highway cruising? Thanks!
Thanks mate! Yeah it'll be fine on the highway... you won't be doing fast overtaking but there's enough power to cruise and some overtaking. If you're going to do it a lot you might want to get a little fairing as well to make the wind a bit less intense...
It seems like a cool bike, just hate the fact that it is 100% made in India. People buy Harley cause it's an American brand. Kinda ruins the whole point of buying a Harley I believe.
+Ben LeBlanc (BenLeBlanc1) yeah true! It's a tough one because it helps them put it on the market at a lower price, but people don't like it not being made in America. I hear a lot of people saying they wouldn't but one because of that...
+TheGto389 I am under the impression that it was a bike intended for the Indian market. In order to get the price down, they needed to make them over there. The overflow is then shipped over to us here in Canada/ the states. I don't think they manufacture the bikes here.
the us market/canada bound bikes are made in kansas city kansas google[ where are harley street 750s made] then click the link to cycle world.com you can read the whole story. they are a real magazine and online magazine they review all makes!
I had a look at the Street 500 for my P's and it was too small and under powered for me. I ended up getting a Hyosung GV650 and it was a lot more bike for my money (twin front calipers for starters). Also unlike the Harley parts for the GV650 are insanely cheap and simple to replace. Also for me a 5'11 foot rider the GV650 had a long and short peg option and in long mode is was right on the money.
I have to left hands with manual gear change. I just sold my Piaggio BV 350 scooter (awesome btw) and consider now this HD Street bike. Looks like a decent entry level bike for a fantastic price. Thx for the review as its supporting my decision to get one myself. 😊 👍
WeNeedASaga Haven't rode either mate lol but from what I've seen on other UA-cam videos the Vstar is a much better buy if you want the Harley look. Anyway love the videos mate keep em coming ✌️️
for me to decide to have an harley is an experience to have one(at least in my lifetime), next the price is so achievable, i got my used one with 7 kilometers on the clock(yeah you read it right seven kilometer) with heavily discounted because the salesman is the son of my family friend ,
Just needs a "ROO BAR"and a rack on the back for a slab of VB stubbies for a cruise to the beach to look for some white pointers to make ride authentic Aussie! This seppos as dry as a pommy's towel, time to hit the turps! Nice Vid. mate! I've got to do the Harold Holt! Cheers!!G'day from Cali!
I’m not sure if I want a street 500 or a Honda rebel 500,I’m 4”8 so I’m really small,Does the Harley “leak” oil? Do you think it’s a good overall bike?
Production from the Kansas plant shifted to York, Pennsylvania as stated by the company before the plant closed thereby implying its built there now. Not that it matters. A bike is a bike, American or not.
Very nice review btw...very informative..I realize now I'm more of a Cruiser or Touring type rider than a Crotch rocket/sport style zipping on bye sounding like a bee in your ear type rider if that makes any sense LOL
You haven't mentioned the stigma that comes along with an Indian made "American" bike. In the 'old days' if you came across a set of Harley riders on this thing it would be nothing short of a scene straight out of a Mad Max movie.
You need to ride a Ducati Monster 796 and up (821 1100). They have the comfort of a cruiser , The sound if a cruiser(mufflers removed:) and the Speed of a sports bike :D
+Charlie Johnson I've only ridden a Monster 659 so far, but I totally agree dude - Monster was super comfortable bike and had heaps of performance. Really good mix. I can't wait to try a Monster 821 or 1200!
Was thinking about upgrading, was looking into KTM 390s and CFMoto 650NKs, maybe the Yamaha R3 (though i never have liked super sports) then i seen this, 3k more but its fucking beautiful. Honestly might have to think how urgent of an upgrade I'm in for because i think this might be worth waiting and saving for. Shame its made in India but so's the KTM i was looking at and the CFMoto is Chinese built so its in the same boat. Quality Bikes for the Price but still noticeably Cheaper Quality.
quite a variety of bikes you mentioned there! Can you give the Street 500 a go before you pull the trigger? Do they sell the street 750 where you are? That looks pretty sweet too..
WeNeedASaga Im a long way off pulling the trigger lol. Watched a couple more reviews and notice the ground clearance on the bike sucks. All the bikes i listed have a problem with then and its going to come down to price, features and a test ride.
I have noticed a lot of second hand street five hundreds lately. I could not bring myself to buy a five hundred Harley it don't look like a Harley and it don't sound like Harley. shop around and get better value but the choice as always is yours to make. But will we see another second hand street five hundred for sale in a few months. work out what type of riding you would be doing most and other factors that are important to you like reliability performance handling and style also cost, weigh these factors up then you will have a more informed view of the motorcycle you need. and good luck to sir
Great review. Just wondering would this be a good bike for a returning rider who was looking for a cruiser, who maybe might upgrade after a couple of years.
Perfect review on cruisers and literally say it how it is and tick every box! Your a top bloke and hope you keep the videos coming! Ps. The street 500 imo are ugly and girly AF haha
I understand HD is trying to expand their customer base.. But it just sucks that they went to far from what H-D motorcycles are known for.. if you hear or see a H-D in the road, you will know it's H-D! But this? ! I'm not so sure!
+Patrick Tupas yeah i agree it's a bit "mild", but you could say the same about a Ninja 300 compared to a ZX-10R (for example) I guess? Yeah the Street500 isn't the biggest baddest Harley but I reckon it's right on the money for a new rider!
+WeNeedASaga Yeah! I agree. As long as the rider/owner is cool with it. it's just that, being on a Learner's, knowing that I could ride a h-d , I was like "ohh, d*mn I'll be able to ride a H-D?", but when I saw some vids and your review about the street 500, it didn't quite lived up to my expectations.. Great review tho! keep it up! keep safe! 👍
I was excited about the motorcycle when I first heard about it, but it was a huge disappointment. It's cheaply built out of cheap parts while costing more than it should. A MT07 is a much better motorcycle for around the same price.
wingscancer hmm, they're pretty different bikes... what kind of riding do you want to do? e.g. commute to work? sports riding on the weekend? road trips? have a think about that - it will help you decide. then, test them both if you can! I hope this helps.
really informational video, enjoyed watching it, I have bought this bike two years ago, it was my first bike, very good experience, it has high clearance, very comfortable in city, not that good for highways. I have changed grips and mirrors and it became much better to drive. My bike has one issue - it has kinda "limit" while in first or second gear, after 3-rd it goes smoothly, I was told that it was test bike, therefore it had this restriction. does anyone know any other explanation?
Don't get me wrong guys its a good little bike and probably rides just fine but it is way overpriced if it was a Honda or a kwaka or yammy it would not sell at all. The only thing selling this model is the brand name and to me that does not warrant the price the dealers are asking for it . Ask the dealer why you should shell out the extra bucks for this bike over the competitor's bikes and see what they say and see if he can show you all the extra Quality or features it has. It actually has less ask him about the extra power it has over the other bikes again he will say I don't know ( it does not have more torque or power) but I will guess mr dealer wont be pinned down with that question. My guess is the dealer will avoid that question altogether and probably say BUT MAAAAAAATE ITS A HARLEYYYYY.
don't know the exact stats of the street 500 but I would be surprised if it was better than the metrics. The yammy Vstar 650 is learner legal and nearly 2 grand cheaper than the baby hoglet that's a whole lot of cash for upgrades helmets or whatever. The Kwaka ER 6nl is only a couple of hundred cheaper than the baby hoglet but you do get a bloody lot of bike for your buck with the Kwaka. Suzuki also has bikes like the baby boulevard C40 thumper way cheaper and perfect if your after that classically cruiser style bike. its not hard to find a great deal my friend now go test ride some bikes and judge for yourself what bikes you really prefer to lay your hard earned money down on. I just don't see much value in the baby hog liquid cooled sure is a good thing but the metric bikes have been doing that for years and most of the other bikes have ABS as well and come fully loaded with extra goodies to make your road time safer and more fun. Me I like all bikes and yep Harleys too but my Honda never lets me down. My advice to you for what its worth is buy your Harley after you have your full licence and then buy a sporty only three grand more than the street 500 or one of the other more desirable models they will hold there resale value a lot better when you decide to sell.
I see, thanks! What about modification? One of the things that makes this a good bike, at least on my opinion, is the amount of modifications that can be made. Not officially by Harley though but it's a great way too add those personal touches.
I totally agree mods are a great way to personalise your ride and make it your own but it seems like you would be spending your money just to make the street 500 look and sound like a Harley. Harley should have done this already but they seem to have taken a cheaper approach with this bike. Now wip over to our friends Yamahas website and then check out the Vstar a Classic cruiser I think the yammy and the new baby vulcan look way better than the street 500. That's just my opinion though and if your already convinced the street is what you want so be it. Nearly eleven grand before you start spending a cent on it and you know Harley wont miss your wallet when you start to talk mods. a handlebar change to say apes with the cables lengthened as my ridding buddy has done on his new Harley TWO GRAND and you can start to see what I mean. Of course you just have to change those pipes its a Harley and its gotta sound like one now your wallet is getting ridden harder than seabiscuit. Should I tell you now you could have brought that sporty and the sporty goes hard and screams HARLEY straight off. The street 500 looks like an old style jap bike from twenty years ago and what's with the ugly fork boots. My opinion on the street 500 is not to buy it there are way better bikes and deals around. If you don't mind spending your cash the street 500 would be a good base for a classic café racer styled bike I could live with it then otherwise I would buy one of the metrics and enjoy more options and the extra cash I did not have to shell out for the Harley.
Baby hoglet, that one is a keeper. Back in the 1970's we called them hardly ableson's And now they are just more expensive. When we went on rides everyone at least took a tow rope for those that ran out of oil before running out of gas. You could always tell a Harely was out of oil when it quit leaking. Ah! those were the days. s
Good question - Harleys generally have pretty good resale value here in Aus and I know HD give you good resale if you trade it in for a bigger bike, but who knows really...
resale is good, still getting $8-$9k apparently. I purchased the 2017 model yesterday and the guy who i was dealing with said so, i'd researched my self and found they hold their value not bad...
thats the most harleynian (fanboy) answer you could get. That and "oh, I bought one for my wife". And dont get me wrong I love harleys, I got myself a street 750 and btw its faster than the iron and the bolt so... suck on that air cooled fan boys... The bike is awesome, feels good, rides fast, the painting options are top notch and yes the price is spot on. Put a Bassani exhaust on her and DAMN, you get one heck of a street brawler with exquisite devilish/annoying roar. BUT alot of the harley owners are just morons, bashing the other brands and posing as real bad boys jajaja you know cus SOA histeria.
ITs hard to shell out the extra thousands of dolleros for a very spartan bike like this when the yammy vstar will save you at least two grand has a bigger motor and looks like a cruiser and you get so much more from them but if you look at the competition the same is true with all the metric bikes. I cant understand why anyone would shell out so much money for this bike its not worth it all your buying is Harleys name save your cash people until you don't need a LAMS bike anymore then go Buy your Harley a real Harley not this pretender. Sounds like im bashin it and maybe I am a little all I can put it down to is the brand. You heard it in the vid people Listen to the sedate bland motor sound Yeah real Harley sounding isn't it NOT. If you don't like how it looks or sounds I am sure Mr Harley dealer would love to shear you of some more money to make it more Harley looking and sounding. Ever priced Harley parts kachinggggg $$$$$. But if you really want one head on down to the dealership but go into it with your eyes open people.
The sporty would be a better second bike bike a Vstar or shadow would be good starter bikes and if you bob them out just as tuff looking too. If you buy a metric bike you will have a lot more change in your pocket to add accessories or bob the bike for that way cool look. If you need any help just ask I love bobbing bikes its what I do.
As far as budget is concerned,...the V-Star 650 or Shadow 750 would probably be best to start on cruiser wise! Harleys are nice,...but very expensive! I was going to consider a sport bike, but backing out on that as a cruiser would be more comfortable for a 53 year old man anyway,..and I don't need a super "go fast" bike, either! The V-Star and Shadow would be better than the Street 500 as a first bike?
Great review!!! As i'm just starting out as an older rider, this review helped me tip the scales and deiced to go purchase the 2017 model yesterday. Also got them to change the exhaust with a Vance & Hines Competition slip on... Gives it that more Harley sound. Cheers!
good on you mate, enjoy the bike!

+michael pinto tralhao that's awesome mate, sounds like you've found your perfect bike. And thanks for the invite to the HH night - much appreciated.

thanks for the feedback! I reckon the extra power and torque of the 750 would set this bike off nicely too. Glad to hear you're enjoying it!
I test rode this bike today and the 750. I did like the extra power of the 750 but this will also be my first bike and wanted something smaller to start out on.
That was the best review of anything I've ever watched
Ha, glad you enjoyed it!
Jesse Davis nice one! Yeah I've heard the street rod is a nice bike, and they're a good price too! Congrats on the purchase.
I own one and its a great first bike for someone who wants a quality brand but can't afford 12k. sounds great. very good for urban riding.
+Michaela Torrens glad to hear it's treating you well! I can see how it would be easy to use in traffic - it feels really nimble!
I think for another $2k a Triumph Street Twin is $6k more motorcycle than the Street.
Good to know.
Piece of pig shit made in India.
I'm an older(58)first time rider. I like the Street 500 & 750 MC's. At 5'8" tall, I think they'd be just the right height and "oomph" for a first, and, starter bike. Regarding the basic things ,, that’s perfect ,, wanted an original old school look and feel on a bike
Had a look at one today very nice indeed looking into getting one now , Thanks for your review
I have to left hands with manual gear change. I just sold my Piaggio BV 350 scooter (awesome btw) and consider now this HD Street bike. Looks like a decent entry level bike for a fantastic price.
Thx for the review as its supporting my decision to get one myself. 😊 👍
Thanks for the great review. I am looking to get one of these and just a few days.
well done mate! thanks for this video. it helped me get to know the bike.
you're welcome! thanks for the kind words!
Yamaha V-star XVS 650 would be my choice for a learner legal Harley style bike
I'd like to try one of those... how does it compare to the Harley Street500?
WeNeedASaga Haven't rode either mate lol but from what I've seen on other UA-cam videos the Vstar is a much better buy if you want the Harley look. Anyway love the videos mate keep em coming ✌️️
Ah cool, no worries! cheers!
Older Aussie that got my L’s last Friday. I’m 6’4” and thinking of getting one of these over the V-Star because they look comfortable….
Sweet I'll buy one Saturday maybe
for me to decide to have an harley is an experience to have one(at least in my lifetime), next the price is so achievable, i got my used one with 7 kilometers on the clock(yeah you read it right seven kilometer) with heavily discounted because the salesman is the son of my family friend

moparbee lol - you've got the lingo down!
Nice Review. Looks like a great entry level bike.
A motorcycle that you can ride for many years. It is fast enough to blow away the Indian Scout.
Momz rofl no it isnt.
Not even close.
Great review WeNeedASaga!
thanks! :)
They sound awesome with exhaust mods
I seen in your video that your riding down towards botany next time you should try the national park down passed Sylvania
ah yes, I'm familiar with the National Park road. Good fun.
That's near my area! You went to la perouse lol, I also own a street 500 I've customised it myself.
I’m not sure if I want a street 500 or a Honda rebel 500,I’m 4”8 so I’m really small,Does the Harley “leak” oil? Do you think it’s a good overall bike?

Avikash Ram nice one! congrats dude, enjoy...
Very nice review btw...very informative..I realize now I'm more of a Cruiser or Touring type rider than a Crotch rocket/sport style zipping on bye sounding like a bee in your ear type rider if that makes any sense LOL
ha yeah I know what you mean... I can definitely see the appeal of taking it easy and soaking up the miles...
The engine sounds like an angry sewing machine 😆
I actually like the nice quiet engine, especially when coming home at 12:30am after work.
Def needs thunderheader pipes on her. Although the th on my night rod didnt last long at all, they sound nasty!
Jesse Davis same! I think I’m in the minority when I say I don’t like loud bikes. Same goes with cars I think they’re obnoxious.

i weigh 58 kg 168cm. do you think i can handle it?
great review mate! I am torn between this and CMX500. see if you can lay your hand on one of those ;-).
ankrich04 thanks mate. I've done the CMX500 too - check out either of my test rides playlists and you'll see it :)
You should if you get the chance check out the Harley Davidson street rod 750
yeah! I saw one in a dealership recently and they look niiice
Great review. Just wondering would this be a good bike for a returning rider who was looking for a cruiser, who maybe might upgrade after a couple of years.
yeah! I don't see why not :)
finally a reason to get a bike now
I just bought 2015 street 500 as my mid life crisis
do you have to ride with someone on your RE L license?
How tall do you have to be to flat foot it?
Perfect review on cruisers and literally say it how it is and tick every box! Your a top bloke and hope you keep the videos coming!
Ps. The street 500 imo are ugly and girly AF haha
It's about as Harley Davidson as a Cabbage Patch doll.
He, my daughter likes her Cabbage Patch doll.
I'm a noob at bikes, but really interested. is the harely a two seater or a single seater?
It's a two seater :) your passenger will need to be small though - it's not a big passenger seat.
WeNeedASaga Thanks mate :)
good old lapa aye
Avikash Ram that's the one!
Great Review!
thanks mate!
thakns for ur review
mujjuman you're welcome :)
Which one do you prefer, Honda CMX500 or HD Street 500?
the CMX500 I reckon - It's got nicer fit and finish and the engine has a bit more performance
I understand HD is trying to expand their customer base.. But it just sucks that they went to far from what H-D motorcycles are known for.. if you hear or see a H-D in the road, you will know it's H-D! But this? ! I'm not so sure!

Yeh! They run, get good mileage, do not cost more than a house, do not break, and do not weigh 1500 LBS, what a bitch.
When this model come in INDIA ?
I like the bike cuz of the quiet engine cuz of a neighbor. I hate the pipe.
Check out the custom exhaust on this 500 ua-cam.com/video/QBT2UYwIrcM/v-deo.html
How was shifting gears on the 500? Were they smooth?
yeah gearbox was fine! :)
Ok. good to know as I'm a new rider in the market for a bike!
Thank you
no problem!
We love ours
local shop selling this baby for $8000 2016 new*
im going for my l's this week not sure to get this got the ninja 300
whats your thoughts WeNeedASaga
wingscancer hmm, they're pretty different bikes... what kind of riding do you want to do? e.g. commute to work? sports riding on the weekend? road trips? have a think about that - it will help you decide. then, test them both if you can! I hope this helps.
going to work. and the odd trip from tamworth to sydney/newcastle
do you reckon this will be good for wheelys ?
Yep, great for wheelys, lift the front wheel, lean right and die. They put two wheels on these for a reason. Can you figure out why?
really informational video, enjoyed watching it, I have bought this bike two years ago, it was my first bike, very good experience, it has high clearance, very comfortable in city, not that good for highways. I have changed grips and mirrors and it became much better to drive. My bike has one issue - it has kinda "limit" while in first or second gear, after 3-rd it goes smoothly, I was told that it was test bike, therefore it had this restriction. does anyone know any other explanation?
Oto Kakhidze thanks mate - glad to hear you're enjoying yours! i don't know anything about your specific issue sorry!
I'm a bit of a speed freak so, would anyone happen to know the top speed for this?
ClassicCars i own one myself and i cruise at 75 mph but ive maxed out at around 90 mph
I think mirrors for you ain’t working cause ur taller. I’m 5’3 and there fine when im riding
Those bikes were very uncomfortable after riding for an hour. It’s definitely not for people who have long legs or back pain issues.
Sounds like a sowing machine 😂
can you dewater it (make it air cool only)?
+daniel rickel I suppose you could, I don't know why you'd bother though...
It's designed to be liquid cooled it would not work as an air-cooled.
Derek Jonez it would if you run it verry verry lean
Derek Jonez with about ten hp
I would Piss on it.
No Harley sound
What bike do you suggest with the same stats for a lower price?
don't know the exact stats of the street 500 but I would be surprised if it was better than the metrics.
Ah! those were the days.
s
resale value?
Good question - Harleys generally have pretty good resale value here in Aus and I know HD give you good resale if you trade it in for a bigger bike, but who knows really...
resale is good, still getting $8-$9k apparently. I purchased the 2017 model yesterday and the guy who i was dealing with said so, i'd researched my self and found they hold their value not bad...
we can ride together sometime bra if ur local
The keys on a computer are far enough apart for you to be able to spell bro not bra, although I do like what is in a bra.
You didn't answer wether you felt and looked cool? Lol
haha true that. It's gonna take more than a Harley to make me cool ;)
You should get Kiwi Citizenship WeNeedASaga ... Thatd do it lmao
hahaha
those mirrors need to go
they're pretty bad hey!
For your first cruiser you shouldn’t ride the street 500😅
Made in India.
It should be pink lol
Hey! My girl friend painted hers pink and she can kick your butt!
I have seen stuff made in India ,no thanks ,give me a Jap bike any day ,the HD badge is just for posers.
Too much money for a 500cc bike. I paid the same price for my 750cc Honda v twin
Too heavy of a bike my goodness. I'm taking motorcycle lessons on one and I'd say I'd rather take lessons on a dirt bike
meme
Ive stopped watching when you said these are made in India.
Depending On Region. Those bought in The US Are Built In The US
Looks ordinary sounds ordinary , nothing good about it . Looks like it should come with a free Vindaloo and a side order of Papadams.
day-um, scathing! I guess you won't be buying one then...
thats the most harleynian (fanboy) answer you could get.
I would have agreed, but I don't think "gay" should be used as an insult.
Maybe . I will edit it for you and all the fruits out there that maybe offended in this politically correct world gone mad .
But if you really want one head on down to the dealership but go into it with your eyes open people.
we get it. you don't like harley's.
Not true my friend sure I like them just not this one It looks cheap and its expensive
I may as well consider the 2017 Superlow XL883L,..at least that's a REAL Harley! Would that be too much bike for a beginner?
I'd buy a Rebel 500 before that piece of shit!
The street is not what a Harley is so you didn’t come close to a real Harley experience
