    Quite amazing you're doing this video today as Delta Art in Edmonton has a big sale happening until July 31, 2023. Paper, pigments, brushes and more. It's awesome! You probably know this. I guess the sale happens every year. And I was just investigating your palette on your webpage. Knowing your reasoning is a huge help too! THANK YOU!

    The color wheel is the most common way that artists organize colors, but a "spectrum" is just as valid: think of how the colors are arranged in a rainbow or from a prism. The genius of what you did here, Angela, is to put the yellows on the end, rather than towards the middle like would be in a typical spectrum sequence - for sure this will help in keeping those lighter colors clean, as you said. LOL, I actually arranged my palette like this, with yellow on the end, but no reason why. You have taught me the reason! Thanks😀

    Perfect timing, Angela. Just been worrying about organising my palette for Cornwall, and started trying layouts of colour - I'd seen you using your plein air palette, and now it's nice to know your rationalle for the yellows being at the start. Thank you.

    What an interesting palette. I love your choices. I applaud your ability to chose only 18 from the DS range! So many yummy colours!

    love the DS dot card theme. I have the travel palette, and i made a custom cut swatch that I put underneath the clear liner on the lid.

    Very nice video - glad you posted again. Wish Daniel Smith permitted you to order different dot cards. But you mentioned a few colors I hadn't explored - just beautiful. Thank you!

      It was on sale so It was just a general card. No artist I don’t think. I believe it was on Amazon or Blicks. It was very recent.

    Could you tell me about the Rockwell colors?
    Which ones to start with and where in your palette have you found them to fit in the best?

      I just recently ordered some. The Sky Blue is pretty and a pigment PB17 that is hard to find. Unfortunately with the second tube they sent a totally wrong color. Customer service has not come through for me after two emails (one with pictures ) and a phone call.

    What is the scoop on the lightfastness of opera pink. Is it ok to use?? Thsnks❤

      It’s fugitive. It’s dye based and will completely fade.

      I too had a question about this, wondering if in the years since she first made this palette video, she had changed her mind and removed it. Opera should not be used on paintings that you are going to sell, just on work you are going to photograph to make prints or in a sketchbook where it's always dark.

    • @lmac_z
      @lmac_z Рік тому

      Exactly. It’s fine for sketchbooks as well, that won’t see the light of day. And there are many folks, especially those who don’t paint that would have no idea whatsoever that this could happen with their paintings once purchased.
      I heard Jane Blundell make mention once, if memory serves me correctly, that she used Opera Pink in some of her earlier paintings, which have now pretty much disappeared or lightened considerably. Hence she does not include the colour in her palettes.

      @@lmac_z it's so beautiful. But why do you have it in your palette??? What is a good substitution???

    • @lmac_z
      @lmac_z Рік тому

      @@Pattymelt415 Some folks are in love with the colour as there are none others that truly compare. And think it is worth the sacrifice. It comes down to personal preference. But if folks are selling their works then they should let buyers be aware that the bright neon pink will fade away. I was just watching a video yesterday where M Graham’s Quinacridone Rose was featured and it might be a substitute worth trying. Margot Hallac, UA-cam video of her top 10 M Graham watercolours. It’s a clip at the very end that features the paint and it’s loveliness.
