You videos are so much better than UA-cam. Like, I would honestly watch this on one of the big streaming channels like Netflix or Disney+ etc. Your style is captivating. Thanks for always uploading. We are lucky. I hope you keep growing with success and happiness.
Nice video to just chill with a glass of wine, mistakes are there to been learned from, still fantastic shots and so jealous you can be stomping around in beautiful Iceland!
I really appreciate when you make videos like this, Thomas. I have been in a bit of a low spot lately with my photography - I 'm on month 3 of a streak of striking out on every attempt and I think I need an attitude adjustment. It's encouraging to see that we all have these problems from time to time no matter how far along our skills may be.
I've watched your videos for years and always love your warts and all videos. Sometimes things don't always work out, but you don't shy away from that. You still end up with stunning images with just perseverance and working the scene. A lesson to all. Thanks for sharing.
Love that pano Thomas, I actually like that the shoreline isn't square and that the mountains are getting smaller as you move to the left. It gives you a feeling of the scale of things and makes it more dramatic. I also love how you are not afraid to show your struggles with these videos and that is really appreciated. They are always entertaining and slick and when a really exceptional image comes along-it feels like we've been with you on that journey too.
The trials and tribulations of photography...doesnt matter whether your professional, amateur or beginner, this affects us all, but thats what keeps you going because theres nothing like the feeling of " nailing it"....love the blog as usual 🌿
Loved the pano from the first day Thomas but think you summed it up pretty well about working to the conditions on the second day but the thrill of the chase is what keeps us coming back hoping to get those epic moments.
I always love going on these journey's with you. The emotional rollercoasters, if you will, are something that all artists feel and it's nice to see that i'm not alone in it. I'm amazed at your ability to power through despite the disappointment and take the last few images for what they are. Great work. Great video. Looking forward to the next one.
Whether the photography is successful or not ( yes i know that is your primary objective) what a stunning place to be. On my first ever visit last year as an beginner/amateur I was blown away with its beauty and feel I didn’t do it justice, next year I hope to do better. One can only wish for the right weather and light but if you don’t get it work with what you have and if all else fails just just admire it’s magnificence and take home the memories 😉 the pier image was worth the trip alone 👌
My expectation at around 1:20 or so was that you'd be putting your free time to good use and raking that violated / trampled sand on the beach... i was torn between raking and smoothing, or giving it the full 'Zen garden' treatment. I leave it to you as to which would have resulted in the more peculiar image. Eureka!... i think i've just visualized my next shot down the beach.🤔
I really enjoy your videos. No matter what your successes or perceived failures are. It feels like you always keep it real. And I really love the panorama.
Love the pano and the last image with the Geese! I also love your honesty in your discussion, the lack of "WOW" is refreshingly inspiring, as that is more often the case when out taking photographs. I always look forward to Thursday morning (Australia) to be able to have 10-20 min of TH therapy! Cheers.
Get out of your own head, Thomas! You’re still in Iceland after all. I love that you’re so real with everything you do, photography and emotions combined. There’s a point where I’d love to just experience your emotions with you and not have them narrated, doubted, and told the video and photography are rubbish constantly. I hope you can let go someday and be even greater. With love, of course.
Another great episode, Thomas! I really love your work in landscape photography, when I started with my landscape photography I was on the super-saturated colors side, and shooting directly to the sun during sunset or sunrise, but let me tell you that your work has changed my mind about it, I stopped using the "saturation" slider with a reason and also started with more minimalistic landscape images. Thanks for inspiring with your work!
On one hand i love wednesdays because of a new video. On the other hand I'm sad that I have to wait another week for the next one. You are an inspiration to me and probably my favorite photography channel. Keep up the fantastic work and till next time!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!! Nice shots and vlog as usual, Thomas. Remember what Simon Booth taught you: try not to be a whiny photographer. What I would give to have an afternoon in Iceland. Thanks for your continued inspiration!
Tom--I'm watching even if you are snapping shots of bumper stickers on Tri-X. We are fans forever and the videos are always compelling. Only sad part was the phraise "no glaciers"...
No hook needed. Love your videos keep up the informative and entertaining videos. Id love to see a video with using something with entry level with a kit lens from shot to finished image. I have a Canon M50 but very newbie to photography
I always enjoy the journey, the process, and the thoughts and emotions that your videos capture. They are as much an artistic expression as is your photography.
I've learned to adapt to the light recently. I set a challenge one day to just photograph where the light was during golden hour with no subjects in mind and they were all awesome. I've also been there hoping for an epic composition to come and I had my back turned and just couldn't bring myself to swing the camera around. Cool sky but no subject matter and it was a mix of emotions. I can't wait to see what is in store next week.
Amazing location. Great to get a video out of a less than perfect day. I can't help looking at the mountain range and thinking of Toberone chocolate. Maybe you can sell images for an ad campaign lol
2:10 - since you had B&W film in the camera, use a very deep red filter (+6 or higher) and it should play with the density and details of the socked in cloud later you have.
Love your wildlife shot, perfectly framed in my opinion. As I'm new to photography I tend to take the approach you took on day two and I think it forces you to see beyond the blinkers. Great vid, look forward to your next one. 👍
Hi Thomas, I just discovered your channel, watched a couple of your videos that I enjoyed a lot! As a landscape photo amateur, I really appreciated all the info and tips that you provide with such a nice humor. Thanks for sharing all this! Best from south of France.
I haven't watched a video of yours since... I don't know. 3 years? 4 years? Anyways, only a few seconds into this video your well-known voice and the beautiful images are welcoming me like an old friend. So, good to be back. And even though I have not done any landscape photography for almost 2 years, particularly this video speaks to me so strongly... I cannot count all the times I have been too stubborn to adapt to the circumstances and look for another subject or composition. I missed more opportunities than I could remember because of being so stubborn, so inflexible sometimes. At least you got some beautiful photos there. The only thing I am missing is your BYE FOR NOW. When did that get lost? Greetings from Austria
Hello and good day Thomas, Do you think The Fuji X-T2 & X-Pro2, plus the X-H1 are all good enough for just starting out doing some semi professional work in many different areas of Photography? I love that 3rd sensor @ 24.3 megapixels... Plus I want all my Fuji Camera bodies made in JAPAN!!! Thanks for your time and energies, Great work as always...
Love your story as always. Misjudging the situation is just so common but perseverance wins out eventually. The other day I was setting up my Milky Way shot in front of a dead lone tree and the clouds just rolled in….That happens…
Yup been there, done that, or more specifically was in Jersey last week and just could not get it all together at the same time. That being said, I did get a couple of decent images in spite of all the hazards.
I feel your pain! I can't count the times I've been pointed in the opposite direction of the light show....and then scrambling last minute to find a comp. Now when scouting I try to find comps in all possible directions....if I can. Love your videos, thanks! I know now how much effort goes into them.
Off the subject you should check out a Utuber called Tucker Gott, and his motorised Paragliding trip to Iceland. The places he stumbled across were amazing.
I don't want to sound like I'm arse kissing, but that black and white (monochrome?) shot of the pier and mountains is stunning. (Obvious to some, not to others, but regardless of that , still stunning). There can't be many places in the world where you have both a pier and mountains like that. One or the other, yes. But both?.... Awesome.
Beautiful work, Tom, as always. Landscape photography reveals who we are at our core. It tests how we manage our emotions, our expectations, and our approach to an inescapable truth - that everything is temporary. The lacklustre conditions, the fumbled opportunities, and the triumphs. All are temporary. So ultimately, landscape photography calls us to truly live in the moment. To revel in the present; no matter the outcome. 👍🦘🇦🇺
I find if I'm going somewhere for the first time it's easier for me to downplay expectations as it's all new and even a Honeypot location in poor/average light is something 'new'. It's when you return to a location and have past images you want to better that the expectation/hope can lead to more disappointment...at least that's my experience. Although having said that I've booked a workshop in Iceland for Oct 2023 and it's my first ever trip so if I get sucked in cloud all 5 days I will be gutted!
Love the panoramic image of the pier, whether its considered an obviously composition or not. One question though Thomas, why haven't you bought yourself one or two more film magazines for the Hasselblad, so its easier to manage film stock when you're in the field? Thanks for the video. S
Thanks a lot, I quite like it too. I wasn't sure at first because of how the shoreline isn't square, but it makes it a little interesting. I have 2 backs for the Hasselblad. unfortunately this isn't something I can do with the Fuji.
Hi Tom, love your videos, your work and Iceland! Just wondering how you dealt with international travel and using film. Do you have any advice about travelling with film/security/X-rays etc. Many thanks Andrew
Lovely images❤️📷 Masterful composition on all three but I especially love the first square image. PS I wonder how you swap out the film on big Bertha if you don't finish the roll? Is it even possible?
Man, it's a bit too pain as it was sooo realistic the feeling you had there in the first half of the video. It was bascially what I've always experienced. An entire day of blue sky, the sun just burns through the day, roasting everything like nobody's business. Yet when the clock reaches about golden hour all the clouds just came out of nowhere and rob the day off, completely stuff out the sun nor any light. I always envy people living close to these travel hotspots around the world since they have all that 365 days to get a good shot as to us travel over for a short window and may end up with no treat at all.
Hi Thomas, I think I would have turned my camera 180 and captured the sunset anyway. I know you do this for a living and for me it's just an interest, but I just couldn't have let that sunset go without trying. Paul, Sheffield, South Yorkshire.
8:24 - Stunning photograph, a little reminiscent of Rhein II with the added goodness of those geese. Good of them to pose for you.
The shot with the geese has so lovely colours and a very nice composition. And of course the geese as the poi. Really nice! Have a good one...
Thanks Heaps for your honesty - Refreshing.
You videos are so much better than UA-cam. Like, I would honestly watch this on one of the big streaming channels like Netflix or Disney+ etc. Your style is captivating. Thanks for always uploading. We are lucky. I hope you keep growing with success and happiness.
Day two - great success. Images are incredible.
Wild fowl and a tranquil landscape. Lovely subject matter!
6:11 interesting drone shot of reflection of mountain in small lake in left third of frame but including more of the surrounding grass
Nice video to just chill with a glass of wine, mistakes are there to been learned from, still fantastic shots and so jealous you can be stomping around in beautiful Iceland!

Thank you for shooting with more film, taking such cool black and whites and with those cameras. a pleasure to watch. 💡
A stunning one as always and glad big Bertha was part of that one !
I've watched your videos for years and always love your warts and all videos. Sometimes things don't always work out, but you don't shy away from that. You still end up with stunning images with just perseverance and working the scene. A lesson to all. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, the clouds, at one time they're your friends, and some other time going against you. Just have to roll with it.
Love the geese shot 🦢🦢
Love that pano Thomas, I actually like that the shoreline isn't square and that the mountains are getting smaller as you move to the left. I loved the ultra modern, essential, new model lens protector shower cap 😉
Another lovely video. ASMR for the eyes. Cracking images as always, despite the challenges.
Brilliant shots in this video Thomas!
Well, the first 30 seconds are a hook! Love every one of your videos my friend. Best regards from a Venezuelan follower!

made my lunch break so relaxing and nice! thanks for the video!
Loved the pano from the first day Thomas but think you summed it up pretty well about working to the conditions on the second day but the thrill of the chase is what keeps us coming back hoping to get those epic moments.
Your Storytelling is amazing, i always get excited when I watch your videos ❤
Thomas, you are still learning and teaching. Good job and thank you for sharing.
Love the pier image!
Lovely video again. Really calm episode. 🙂
Pier shot, hands down! Cheers!
Another week and another valuable lesson in the bag !! The locations looked great for sure Pal

I'm only 5 seconds in but I just realized this is my first video of yours I will be able to enjoy in 4K!! This is going to be great :D
Really enjoyed this Thomas not watched for a while but it's good to see you enjoying yourself ☺️
Loved it Thomas, thank you.x
Filming these shoots on location where you're actually struggling is inspiring beyond words. Keep going!
My expectation at around 1:20 or so was that you'd be putting your free time to good use and raking that violated / trampled sand on the beach... i was torn between raking and smoothing, or giving it the full 'Zen garden' treatment. You are at one of my favourite spots …. I have spent a few nights there watching the Aurora Borealis dancing ….
I really enjoy your videos. No matter what your successes or perceived failures are. It feels like you always keep it real. And I really love the panorama.

Thank you for a dock picture in B&W!
You did well with film in those conditions!
Excellent video, really enjoyed the Hasselblad shots and the pier pano was great too. They don't all need to be hard.
Thanks!
Those mountains look amazing, and you did end up with some nice shots, regardless of your bad luck. I look forward to the next video!

message to the scam (not the author of the channel obviously): leave now and never come back!
Always pleased to see you with a few rolls of film , you should seriously look at the cf 250 5.6 , my cheapest hassy lens and my gamechanger
Absolutely love the shot with the geese!!!
Colours in the morning were amazing. Would love to have seen a colour version of the morning shot.

Nice pic 👍This video reminds me of Ansel Adams.
The image at 8.25. Very much like Andreas Gursky, Rhein II that sold for $4.3m !
That geese photo turned out gorgeous! :D
Look more like swans
Glorious

Good tip about choosing compositions in all directions beforehand - very sensible, that! I must remember it. Thanks :)
@@macronencer I'm embarrassed it took me so long to figure that one out...lol.
Great Vid Tom
I was enjoy the landscape and your landscape photography 👍😘
Bringer of flowers. Flowez in the flowet on flowen. Fulden.
All good photographs. But the photograph with the geese is outstanding. A real art photo. Regards
Off the subject you should check out a Utuber called Tucker Gott, and his motorised Paragliding trip to Iceland. The places he stumbled across were amazing.
Hi Tom just watched this video. Where were you in Iceland as we did a 16 day road trip starting on April 17th. P.S the geese were Hooper swans.
I really like the video u make and wants to see your epic photographs as well
I love the pano , i’m heading to Iceland from Sydney in September and would love to know the location.
Really love all the photos. Honestly, sometimes that "golden glow" is more an "obvious composition" than working with what you have.
Thomas, these are rather whooper swans than geese, I guess.
The arctic can be really rough for days, for weeks trying to catch the light that enable one to create / capture memorable photos.
7:02 Nice shot man, very nice
Thanks for this movie… i am just waiting for “light” and You know …. There is non now … but tomorrow 💪🏻 maybe 🤔
🙋🏻♂️

That's a very good point. I'm not sure if there is a pier with such close mountains. perhaps Norway? Patagonia too, I know there's one there 👍

Great video. I think we all have the same stubbornness as photographers. Although I do like that black and white pano image!
i was waiting for your video.
Me too! Once I learned they happen every Wednesday I'm on high alert.
Hi Tom, love your videos, your work and Iceland! Just wondering how you dealt with international travel and using film. Do you have any advice about travelling with film/security/X-rays etc. Many thanks Andrew

That first pano was amazing. I’d love to visit Iceland 🇮🇸 at some point in the future
iceland is amazing - i can’t wait to go back; also to see the southern and eastern parts - black and green beaches and ice and so forth
