  • It was a sweet surprise for two Snyder Elementary boys Thursday afternoon and it took over 1100 plus kids to pull it off!
Staff Sergeant Billy Burleson returned home from a 10 month tour in Afghanistan earlier this week. Burleson is enlisted with the 454 Engineers in the National Guard. His wife Deidra is an employee at Snyder Elementary. The couple have two sons, a kindergartner at Stanfield and a 3rd grader at Snyder Primary. The arrival was kept top secret until this afternoon with the help of several administrators and staff members, a little over 1100 students and of course Mom! The event proved to be just a bit overwhelming for one 3rd grader as he had absolutely no idea as to why everyone was waving flags as the gymnasium echoed the sounds of an unfamiliar tune. The stunned look on his face was priceless as this third grader froze in his seat when his favorite soldier emerged from the P.E. office! It didn't take long for this sweet 3rd grader to fit right back in to his daddy's arms!
While on tour overseas, Staff Sergeant Burleson serves as a Lead Sapper. His duties include searching for and defusing IEDs.
Billy and Deidra are both graduates of the SHS class of 2000. Graduating as high school sweethearts, the couple married in 2002 and Billy joined the National Guard in 2003.
Welcome home Staff Sergeant Burleson! We are extremely proud of you and thankful for your service. We are also thankful for your wife and family and the sacrifices they make in order to support you, as you protect all of the citizens of the United States!
