There are two types of people:

There is something highly unsettling about an inactive ship just drifting aimlessly whether it be at sea or in space
If you play the half-life series, it is not a new concept ^^
ItzMatty 56 ok
Dead space did this concept perfectly.
Dead space makes it horrifying, not to mention the Prison ship in the Mona Lisa story, of halo
I think abandoned/inactive anything tends to be creepy, just because we're so used to it well, *not* being empty/quiet/nonfunctioning.
If they kept a spare distributer cap this wouldn't have happened

Make sure they don’t send they’re friends on a different boat though.

I think it’s cool how the dead radio guy in the game had a paper next to him and on the back it said “I die” just like the radio guy in the message cool attention to detail
That's one thing about supermassive games they actually pay attention to details
Hmmm... So this happened in 1947?! That’s the same year Marilyn Monroe signed a contract with Twentieth Century Fox after having worked for a radioplane company as part of a war effort for WWII... Which means... The creepy blonde lady chasing Conrad must have actually been modeled after Marilyn Monroe! The celebrity-style camera flashes whenever she appears in the game make sense now... A secret level in Tristania 2 will feature the Ourang Medan. The stage will be just like what the reports told about the real-life Ourang Medan. It'll be a timed course - the protagonist MUST leave the ship in 10 minutes...or *ELSE!*
I think a game with you being a lonely fisherman and you stumble across the boat, weird stuff happens to you and then once they find the dead shipmates in their bunks everything goes freaky.
I'm strange idea lol

Man of Medan based on true stories?! I'll be damned!
nah, the game is just too popular that they make it into real life
Not true, just a hoax
@@AMicroBox nah man, SS Ourang Medan is a real thing, it's not just a "bedtime story"
Legends are always true if u believe
@@AMicroBoxnah its not a hoax. There was a ship in 1947 named the Ourang Medan. As for what actually happened on that ship is a mystery. Only the crew that died on that ship know what really happened. The crew who found the ship could be spinning stories, but the actual S.O.S. messages are real and so is the ship.
Wow, the Morse from the original boat is the one from the game? That’s cool attention to detail.
Is it actually?
No, the boat never existed, this is a legend.
All legends have a basis or backstory but I do think its true because the Japanese was on to breakthrough with shit like this but it does violate the Geneva convention on biological weapons and warfare but we supposedly found a research facility in the war but like any cia or government Oh Let's study it so we could use it I don't put past our own government for this reason but ultimately I believe
@@taylorjudge4506 The original source material comes from an article published in a Dutch newspaper. That article did allegedly include a word-for-word transcript of a Morse code signal. It's rather simple to create a sound clip recreating that.
How is that a detail? Lolol that morse code message is literally the most important thing that the whole myth is based around.

They could have been carrying some type of psychedelic gas.
Raymond Raptorclaw labeled Manchurian gold
Man Of Medan
LeeDuKe 951 explain what that is please?
It was gas and it was called that as a code name of some sort. Papers you find in the game on the rig instruct to wear a mask immediately if a leak happened. So basically he just meant the bio-weapon was nicknamed that by the military.. ╮(╯▽╰)╭ thats what i believe anyways
Maybe the Devil’s Breath? AKA a gas said to be derived from the flower of the Borrachero shrub. The seeds are ground up and the powder undergoes a chemical extraction, yielding a chemical called “Burandanga.” It is similar Scopolamine. The ship might have been carrying some of the gas and had a bad gas leak during the voyage, causing the crew to get a very very big overdose to the gas, making them suffer far worse effects from an already scary nerve agent.

@@olbiomoiros its not. There was a journal kept in a safe somewhere within the ship that tells about this "operation manchuria". Basically, it was a planned experiment. The chemical was meant to be released on the shop to see how people would react to it.
Old CBRN recon dog here - immediately thought of nerve agent via accumulated dose (versus acute dose) when this was described. If this actually happened and those bodies were arranged like this, PLUS the rescue crew came away "unaffected" , it is absolutely cookie cutter nerve agent release. Nerve agent needs a tiny, tiny amount to affect a human being and does so very intensely. BUT, even beyond that small amount, a consistent level of microdoses, say, very very small amount of nerve agent offgasing into the air and being breathed in by the crew, can accumulate over time in the body and rise to irreversibly lethal levels. This explains the crew death outside, they had enough time to try and "breathe" fresh air, even the dog went outside - a natural instinct - way too late for them though. This also explains how a crew member was able to survive to send a transmission and then die as well. The rescuers probably received such minimal dose, and surely over a fractional period of time, they were unaffected. Nerve agents are almost exclusively delivered by artillery shell. Which is explosive. Corroborated the explosion later. If this did happen, I'd bet easy money on illegal transport of old nerve-agent artillery shells.
Paul Kokenes I like this theory. Nerve agent shells accidentally (or even purposefully) mixed in with regular military surplus post war. It explains the deaths as well as the explosion shortly after its discovery, although why the vessel was unregistered and what sparked the fire that led to the explosion is kind of up in the air.
@@poobs2361 If the artillery shells were already corroded to the point that nerve agents were leaking out, then that would mean that other parts of the artillery shells were also leaking. The corrosion in some of the shells could have led to chemicals mixing that led to smoke billowing out before the process accelerated and led to the explosion.
As for the ship being unregistered, that's far easier to explain. My guess is that they were smuggling illegal weaponry and had the false name in case another ship came across them and became suspicious. If the crew were to go and report it to authorities when they reached a port, the false name would just end up as a dead end to the investigation.
The ship had likely been loaded at an official port with the load being purposely labeled as something else. Then, once out at sea, the crew painted the name "Ourang Medan" over the official name for the ship. The destination for the ship was likely at an unofficial port where they didn't need the registration.
You guys keep popping new scientific trash Everytime you can't explain anything. Right? That's your ignorance. The world is far more than what your brain let's you imagine or fathom what it is.
PIYUSH JAISWAL you always have to think with a skeptic mind. As soon as it is proven otherwise, I’m all for supernatural explanations. Until that day, this is a very good explanation for what happened to that ship
PIYUSH JAISWAL Ah the wonders of the human race “Wow this looks like something super natural!” “No it only appears that way! I actually have a pretty reasonable explanation for literally every strange part of this occurrence. It was probably illegal transport of Nerve-Agent laden Artillery shells.” “sCiENtiFiC TRaSH. Watching this reminded me of something my grandad told me once. He was in the merchant navy for many years and had worked extensively around the east. I'm sketchy about the details because this was a story he told me over 35 years ago and only told it once, so, bearing that in mind, take this with a pinch of salt.
My grandad was not a nice man. He went to sea as a boy to escape his life in a orphanage and grew up hard. He was never unpleasant to me but tended ignore me. I had no relevance to him as far as he was concerned, despite being his son's son.
One Christmas, when I was a teenager, he got a bit drunk and we started chatting. This was unprecedented for him, but I suppose the booze and Christmas spirit must've loosened him up a bit. We started talking about his tattoos, where he got them and what they meant but, eventually I asked if he'd encountered anything strange while he was at sea. He said that he'd seen a few things but remembered an American he'd met in Singapore. He was a merchant seaman too, and they were talking when the American told my grandad about how he'd been involved in a strange rescue involving a ship that had sent out a very unusual distress signal. His ship The Silver Star (I remember that name particularly and that is what reminded me,) was near to where they thought the signal had originated. Sure enough, when they arrived at the coordinates, there she was.
They tied up alongside and a few people went aboard including the captain and petty officer. It was all apparently as you described in the video, there were bodies all over the ship. My grandad wasn't very descriptive of this part, all he said was that no one had died easy. The rest transpired pretty much as described but, as a part of the salvage, a few men, including the American sailor, went to check on the cargo as they'd get a share of that too. When they got into the hold they saw something that looked like a big "bell". It wasn't diving equipment, the American merchant knew the difference and it wasn't the musical kind either. It had strange writing on it and seemed to be vibrating ever so slightly. In fact this tiny vibration could be felt throughout the hold and the American said that it felt awful in there. They wasted no more time and got out and back to their ship ASAP.I
The rest went as you said, with the ship exploring and report to the coastguard except they were warned not to mention the thing they saw in the hold and were threatened to keep quiet. Which, I suppose, he didn't but who's going to believe an old wives tale like that?
Anyway, that's the story, I'm sure I might have forgotten some details or got something wrong, so take it or leave it.
Edited for typos.
Grimly Fiendish if thats true
That’s cool to know
Sadly we can’t check if either the guy your granddad met was telling the truth

Thank you so much! We're still relatively new; only launched at the end of Jan so I know what you mean about low views and likes, but it's all part of growing the channel. We're doing ok :-)
Loving the channel, why do you keep the subs numbers hidden tho?
It's actually a tip given by prominent UA-camrs. The mentality of a lot of people when visiting a new channel is to look at subscriber numbers and use that as a sort of benchmark on whether the channel is actually any good or not. The lower the subscriber numbers are, the lower their estimation of you. So it is advised to hide subscriber numbers until you have a decent value to show. Silly I know, but it's a well-documented finding from statistics. However, as we have now cracked 1k, we may start displaying them again.
Hmm, neat, I remember there was YTP maker who did the same thing years ago. May I ask what's the intro music? I know the outro is a popular piece from Kevin MacLeod, but the only other place I have heard the intro was in older videos from Some Ordinary Gamers.
It's "Undaunted", also by Kevin MacLeod :-)
Talented guy!
So I guess the lesson is even if you’re transporting highly illegal drugs, keep your vessel on the records so people can potentially help you quicker and find out who you all were?

UA-cam: You know how we don't watch your every move? Well, here's a recommendation for you.
Deven Gilmore well i mean their reccommendatios are based off of algorithms. I guess they'll suggest videos with similar tags/words. I'm guessing both videos have been tagged with "medan"

Why the heck is this in my recommended list? Because of the game?

One English reference to the ship and the incident is in the May 1954 issue of the Proceedings of the Merchant Marine Council, published by the United States Coast Guard. An earlier English reference was published on October 10, 1948 in the Albany Times, Albany, NY, and references its original source as Elsevier's Weekly. The word Ourang (also written Orang) is Malay or Indonesian for "man" or "person",whereas Medan is the largest city on the Indonesian island of Sumatra, giving an approximate translation of "Man from Medan". Accounts of the ship's accident have appeared in various books and magazines, mainly on Forteana. Their factual accuracy and even the ship's existence, however, are unconfirmed, and details of the vessel's construction and history, if any, remain unknown. Searches for any official registration or accident investigation recorded have proven unsuccessful.
The story's first appearance was a series of three articles in the Dutch-Indonesian newspaper De locomotief: Samarangsch handels- en advertentie-blad (February 3, 1948, February 28, 1948,[6] and March 13, 1948).The story is mostly the same as the later versions, but with significant differences. The name of the ship that found the Ourang Medan is never mentioned, but the location of the encounter is described as 400 nautical miles (740 km; 460 mi) southeast of the Marshall Islands. The second and third articles describe the experiences of the sole survivor of the Ourang Medan crew, who was found by an Italian missionary and natives on Toangi (sic) atoll in the Marshall islands. The man, before perishing, tells the missionary that the ship was carrying a badly stowed cargo of sulphuric acid, and that most of the crew perished because of the poisonous fumes escaping from broken containers. According to the story, the Ourang Medan was sailing from an unnamed small Chinese port to Costa Rica, and deliberately avoided the authorities. The survivor, an unnamed German, died after telling his story to the missionary, who told the story to the author, Silvio Scherli of Trieste, Italy. The Dutch newspaper concludes with a disclaimer:
"This is the last part of our story about the mystery of the Ourang Medan. We must repeat that we don't have any other data on this 'mystery of the sea'. Nor can we answer the many unanswered questions in the story. It may seem obvious that this is a thrilling romance of the sea. On the other hand, the author, Silvio Scherli, assures us of the authenticity of the story."
Silvio Scherli is said to have produced a report on Trieste "Export Trade" on September 28, 1959.
New evidence found by The Skittish Library shows there were 1940 newspaper reports of the incident taken from the Associated Press in British newspapers The Daily Mirror and The Yorkshire Evening Post. There were significant differences in the story. The location being the Solomon Islands, and the SOS messages different from later reports. The story still appears to originate with Silvio Scherzi in Trieste
Several authors note their inability to find any mention of the case in Lloyd's Shipping Register. Furthermore, no registration records for a ship by the name of Ourang Medan could be located in various countries, including the Netherlands. While Bainton states that the identity of the Silver Star, reported to have been involved in the failed rescue attempt, has been established with high probability, the complete lack of information on the sunken ship itself has given rise to suspicion about the origins and credibility of the account. Ships logs for the Silver Star did not show a record of any such rescue attempt. Bainton and others have put forward the possibility that accounts of, among others, the date, location, names of the ships involved, and circumstances of the accident might have been inaccurate or exaggerated, or that the story might be completely fictitious.
"might be completely fictitious" heh, at this point that seems the most likely explanation.
Ourang (or Orang) Medan simply means Medanese, which means citizens of the city of Medan. Medan itself is the capital city of the province of North Sumatra, one of the provinces in Indonesia.
#endnerdmode >.
I wonder if there is any connection to the Indonesian Revolution?
@@constantdrowsiness4458 revolution haha Indonesia didn't do beter with sucarno or suharto 😆 pity but things are getting beter. To bad a diplomatic and working solution wasn't worked out. Not many people had profit of this revolution. And in 1947 the US and Un forced the Dutch into surrender so shipping and military actions already were controlled. And there was not much of a controlled transfer of power. That's probably why it all went corrupt and bad in Indonesia. After the 50s Indonesian people whernt even allowed to flee to the netherlands any more. Sad stories are born that way. Horror storys are just made up.
You would think that the family members of the men that died would try to find out what happened to their loved ones.
You can't start a whole bureau every time something happens to sailors at sea
Or time-traveller ship?
They probably tried, but since the ship exploded and sank, nothing else could be done.

Or maybe the event, was based on the game 🧐 *X-FILES MUSIC*
Yes. This is also the story the movie 'Ghost Ship' is based on
@@fisharepeopletoo9653 good movie
this one really knocked me out. I was glad there was no mention of the inevitable alien intervention--it would've been so easy to wedge that in. looks like this was straight-up research.
The ship was already observed from far, there were no strange lights or objects above, so we can pretty much rule out UFO attack
If pewdiepie was in charge everyone would die...

probably the most realistic and thought out explanation I've heard about the Ourang was that it was carrying nerve gas, likely sarin, which prevents muscles from relaxing and can quickly dissipate, explaining the reason the corpses were frozen in such a manner. I have no idea about the explosion or accelerated decomposition though
Saw a story about the ship in a criminal justice library. The corpses of the crew was said to have a look of agaony and horror, that their arms were outstreched pointing towards the sky. The dogs fangs were visible as if it were in pain and the dogs paws also pointing towards the sky.
I love the name of the channel. Videos like these are "Bedtime Stories". Subscribed. Very creepy storytelling. Like LEMMINO.

Lol i'm from Medan, Indonesia and UA-cam algorithm brought me here.
Well actually, "Ourang" in Medan language is "Orang" in english means "People". So "Ourang Medan" means "People of Medan". And also, in our language, "Medan" means "Field" and "Haunted/Horror". So i'm not surprise about "Ourang Medan Story".
