"It was a ghost monk! I had to drive straight through to escape." "No , sir, that was a Ren Faire cosplayer. I'm afraid we're gonna hafta book ya for vehicular homicide."
My mum claims that when she was young, my grandad did exactly that. Allegedly, they were driving along a country road with the whole family in the car when a figure in white suddenly appeared in the road ahead. My grandad stopped the car, but the figure just stood there. My mum and her siblings were freaking out saying it was a ghost, so my grandad just said "fine, we'll just keep going then" and drove straight through it. It's probably horseshit but it always amused me.
I was on Stocksbridge bypass yesterday and the road has changed quite a bit since I was last there. It has several traffic calming measures including very long sections of road with average speed cameras and overtaking lanes to pass traffic crawling up the hills. In the past there have been a lot of accidents due to excessive speed and traffic incorrectly overtaking into oncoming traffic. It certainly seems better than the first time I drove over it on a pitch dark rainy night . It used to draw you into driving faster than you intended to and then throwing a sudden curve at you.
It's good that it's been improved and driving conditions have got better. Such traffic calming measures will surely cut the accident rate on that stretch of road.
PLEASE READ before leaving a comment asking how we know the woman driving the car at the beginning of the episode saw a monk before she crashed and died… This introduction is a fictional and narrative driven primer, loosely based on accounts of what people have reported seeing in the road. We were not referring to an actual recorded incident, we did not mention any names and we reserve the right to take artistic liberties in order to set the scene in this way. Whilst writing this episode, we couldn’t help but wonder if some of the deaths that had occurred on Stocksbridge Bypass might have been caused by the driver seeing something - or at least believing they saw something - in the road. We then decided to base our introduction around that possibility before leading in to the actual recorded events.
No need to explain yourself. Anybody who took that introduction as fact is a fucking dim-wit. Anybody who has a problem with it doesn't seem to understand the nature of story telling. As you have said yourself, this is an entertainment channel, not a documentary channel. People just need to get over themselves. Keep up the amazing work.
Deaf From Above How is it sensationalism you imbecile? It's just storytelling. He didn't sensationalise any of the actual sightings, he just set the atmosphere.
I've lived near here all my life and everything you've said is true, however during the construction they found remains of an actual monastery, that's where the Monk came from
@@kidofsteel0362 I can honestly say its never felt satanic, not to me anyway. Its felt sad more than anything. Its a very dangerous stretch of road and alot of people have died there, so many its just absorbing the energy from there?
My dad has driven there many times at night and day but never saw anything so i have no idea what it is but they did put up a cross i dont know if that changed anything
@@kirstymarie2559 Although I've driven not too far from where the Stocksbridge Bypass is (ish) many times I've never actually been on it and I'm only in Stoke so I've got no excuse not to go have a gander! Actually, frustratingly I made a delivery to only a.few miles from Hexham the other day (Hexham Heads also covered by Bedtime Stories!) and if I'd had time I would have loved to have gone to check out the origins of that account too! Next time, maybe! Fascinating stuff.
This is by far my favorite channel that covers this type of content. I just wish they put out most videos. It feels like there’s only been two videos in the past 4-5 months
Drove this road more than half a dozen times daily 5 days a week from the day it opened in 1988 until 2006 both day and night and can report the only sightings were of Fox and Badger. This road was built on the cheap, it should have been 2 lanes at minimum both ways, up and down, that's one of the contributing factors to the number of deaths on it. Drivers come off the M1 onto this bypass and until the speed cameras were introduced (almost halting the deaths overnight) drove on it at stupid speeds, hence the death toll. Coming from Manchester and been unable to pass HGV's because of the very limited number of passing places, when the drivers hit this new bypass it was like a race track with cars trying to pass the HGV's. So there was the problem, vehicles going both ways at daft speeds, trying to overtake when it was not safe to do so. This road is no more dangerous than the road outside your house, the danger is the drivers who use it. Drive to the speed limits, don't try to overtake when it is not safe to do so and you will be as safe as on any other road on this island.
I’ve driven the bypass many, many times. It was only dangerous due to people driving like maniacs and the fact it wasn’t designed correctly to start with. I’ve never seen anything out of the ordinary at anytime in the day/night.
Really? The road is poorly designed? Well, that would certainly contribute to the problems. As would the carelessness, and alleged "curse". That said, I personally can not rule out something unusual being at play either. There is just too much in the way of circumstantial evidence throughout human history for me to want to do that.
@@marybdrake1472 The turn off for wortley is dangerous as it’s just after an up hill overtaking lane that people race up, it bottle necks at the top of the crest, the turning is directly afterwards and is hidden by concrete bridge supports, people turning onto the bypass, can’t see the cars coming until they’re about 30 yards away, coming toward them at least 50-60mph.
Of course you haven't, silly. You haven't seen anything "out of the ordinary" for the simple reason that there isn't anything "out of the ordinary" to see.
I've heard they've rebuilt the worst stretch of the bypass so it's not as dangerous now. Of the two security guards, one moved to Canada, and the other hasn't worked since. I wish I could find out more about this, it's so fascinating, and the report of the two police offers lend it a lot of credibility. It's one of my favorite ghost stories from the UK. Thank you for uploading.
They put speed checks on the road ,people used to drive like idiots on it before this , however I have done many a ghost hunt here , never actually seen anything, but have an open mind on the subject.
Few months ago i was driving from my relatives and a deadly crash happened few kilometers in front of me. At the time when the slow traffic allowed me to pass the accident site i glimpsed at two or more dead people on the road that had just been pulled out from the wrecks. There was no paranormal activity. It was just very scarry to imagine that any moment when you drive you can become someone lying on the cold road covered with a sheet and emergency personell pulling your dead family or friends out of your wrecked car. Drive carefull and never drive under influence or lack of sleep!
[IG Leader] TheRealXephi my man claims to have seen a dark hooded figure at night out of back rear view mirror. She is 87 and has no reason to tell a lie like that. Stocks bridge as a hole is spooky
I can tell you after regularly going up Pea Royd lane on my motorcycle there is absolutely nothing unusual about the bypass at all. Don't live in Stocksbridge anymore though. Was a fucking shithole.
cassie bala : checking back on a book chapter concerning this there was a modish type figure seen regularly, particularly during the roads construction, also children from the past dancing around a maypole, I think. Dressed olde style who would vanish. Later figures eyes and cold in drivers back seats!
I am from Sheffield and there is something very wrong with the Stocksbridge By Pass its definitely hiding somehting very dark. My friends nan does not believe in the paranormal and or should I say DID not but she lived in a farmhouse in Stocksbridge and has seen a hooded, cloaked figure on the very same bridge she said was definitely a monk. Accurate accounts and fantastic narration well done to the uploader !! Anyone thinking of visiting to see for themselves please be careful x
I'd often go over Stockbridge on the way to Manchester Airport when I was a kid going on holiday, and I remember my dad telling me about people seeing a hooded figure/ person in medieval monk robes on the road.
Putting aside the old 'do ghosts exist or not' debate, I always find it funny how so many people claim that ghosts appear to cause deaths of people, when it could well be they appear as a warning to drivers that they are in danger and should proceed cautiously from the point of appearance. Sadly, most people's thoughts on ghosts always lead to feat and hence actions acting out of fear, which lend a hand in this premature death.
Harkeill that may very well be the case. although--ghost or not--popping up in the middle of the road right in front of someone's car is almost always gonna cause them to swerve, not necessarily out of fear, but out of natural instinct not to hit someone/something. otherwise, i think it is very possible that ghosts present themselves as a warning to the driver. while i don't know what the ghost is thinking or seeing from their perspective, it would still make more sense for them to show up on the side of the road or farther away to give the driver time to see them and slow down, rather than popping out from nowhere and giving them zero time to react safely. knowing the history of this road and other haunted roads, i would probably make it a point to remind myself repeatedly while driving (esp. at night) that if i see something in front of me suddenly, to try to remain calm, press on the breaks slowly, and keep going. if it's a ghost, then maybe i will avoid killing myself over it. if it's a person or an animal, well that really really sucks, but i think the cops and everyone else will understand. generally people do not stand in the middle of a road or highway in the dead of night.
@@alinavaysfligel7249 No, the cops will definately not understand. "I drove over that guy because I thought it was a ghost" does not hold up in court. Trust me
I've also seen the monk on multiple occasions, also the old steel works there is the night cleaner who died there (personally seen as I used to be a security guard there)
Been watching your vids. The artwork is SO GOOD and the narration is deliciously creepy. Love your channel!! Again, give the artist a major high five from me. Amazing work!
I was up there last night 18th May 2024 I was there between 22:25 and 00:20 in the morning it was quite eerie and I saw nothing suspicious but around the time I left I saw a figure coming up the path over the bridge. My pulse was racing but as I observed it was a guy walking past my car and looking at me trying to identify why I was parked in front of the gate I realised it must be the local farmer who had had a few scoops in Stocksbridge and was returning to the building up the path past the gate. it shows how the mind can misinterpret information at times I don't dispute anyone's claims that shadows and noise can trick the mind and an experience in itself of how the surroundings and reputations can affect the mind's processing of information.
This river in England “Little Don” sounds like the river in Russia, my birthplace “Rostov-on-Don” Rostov is name of city and Don is name of the river. Russian river Don is an important element in Russian/Slavic history and heritage. Don, Volga, and Dnieper rivers are the 3 important Russian rivers. It’s cool to know that there is also a river Don in England
Darcy Mceachern Hello. Thank you for your reply. I personally don’t subscribe to the Norman theory when it comes to Russia’s history. I’m sure you know about the Norman theory, since you think that it was the Vikings as in Scandinavians who brought the name for the river Don to Russia. The Norman theory proposes that Russians got their cultures from Scandinavians, swedes, and got their language from Greeks you know Saint Cyril... personally I reject all of this. Pre-Christian Slavic culture is very ancient. It’s one of the most ancient ones, and Slavic people did not get their culture from Scandinavians, Swedes or whoever else. Many people in Russia, even academics & scholars argue against the Norman theory. They present their evidence to disprove this Norman theory. I believe those who say that Russia’s history was stolen from Russian/Slavic people, and instead they were given a fabricated version. Russian/Slavic people had their own Slavic Vikings, and had their own original ancient Slavic calendar that was completely different from modern calendar. Original Slavic calendar had a different system of counting time from the one we have today. They also had their own alphabet system that had 59 letters. All of this is slowly coming to light right now. Modern Russian history was fabricated sometime in the 18 century by a group of German scholars who were members of Russian Academy of sciences. Russian Academy of sciences had only one or two Russian scholars and the rest were German and Swedes... It seems anyone could write Russian history be he German, or Jew, but not the Russians themselves. Anyway, I will just end this comment with saying that Russian/Slavic native indigenous heritage, spirituality, traditions and knowledge is very ancient and was not given to them by any foreigners. But I hope you don’t take my comment as rude. I promise I wasn’t trying to offend you. I was just sharing information with you
Most rivers in England, Don included, still have their original Celtic names, despite most towns and villages having Anglo-Saxon names. Not sure why we didn't rename them since I never found a reasonable explanation Thames is another example of a Celtic name
I live in Stocksbridge. Moved here to Stocksbridge proper in 2016 but always lived in the vicinity. The area overall has a creepy vibe to it, specially at night. The winters are always brutal.
The H1 in Hawaii is said to be both cursed and haunted for the fact it was built over sacred land. Would love to see an episode on haunted, American roads with that in it.
One late evening in September of 2003, I was driving down a dark deserted road strewn with debris from a particularly strong storm that recently hit our area. Fallen branches and twigs forced me to drive slowly. I was halfway to the next town from our own when I noticed a tall figure of someone about 40 meters in front and to my left walking towards the road from the farm fields. He or it was illuminated by the moon and by my headlights as I rounded a slight bend of the road. It looked like a person. I wondered how that person was able to walk steadily almost at a fast loping manner in spite of the muddy ground. I thought nothing further of it as I tried to concentrate on the debris-strewn road ahead when suddenly that figure bounded on top of a tree stump at the side of the road in front of me and nonchalantly sat down as if waiting for me to pass by. The tree stump was about two and a half feet tall and its top was jagged with splinters. As I neared the figure sitting on top of that tree stump, I was surprised to see that it was not a man or an animal. It had skin the color of dark brown mud with the texture somewhat like that of a coarse tree bark. As it sat on its haunches on top of the stump, its narrow and long feet were placed at the side thereof as if to balance itself. It also had very long toes and nails that wrapped around the stump, still wet and muddy. I distinctly remember this because its feet were somewhat level to my eyes as I passed by only a few feet away. It had its equally long arms with very long fingers and nails hugging its knees seemingly all the way to its back. I looked up to see that its head had two holes for eyes and a large mouth that was partially open. I was too petrified to let out a scream. Had it stood up, I suspect that it would have reached about 3 to 4 meters in height. All I could think of was that it was very large. I stepped on the gas no longer minding the debris as the vehicle lurched forward. I looked back to see if the figure was following me but i could not see anything on any of the rear view mirrors. and I drove on as fast as I could. Several days later, I passed by the same spot in the day time and I saw the same tree stump. Although it did not do anything to me, I hope I do not see that thing anymore.
This channel is brilliant, well produced, well written, gorgeously illustrated, I could keep going...Thank you for a nice viewing experience, and my new favorite channel!
Very nicely done, with good narration and spooky illustrations. Thanks for posting this. I shall endeavour to avoid all such roads (especially at night) in future.
This literally gave me chills. In October 2018 I was driving this route from Lincoln to Manchester airport at around 3.30am with my wife - we were heading to Mexico for our honeymoon. We'd just been via the Stocksbridge Bypass and were now a couple of minutes up the road on the A628 approaching the Woodhead, going around the sharp bend just before the Derbyshire sign. My wife had been staring out the window into the blackness when she gasped and told me she'd just seen a figure in "a robe or long coat" standing on the other side of the barrier, staring at the car as we passed. I pointed out that the other side of the barrier is a sheer drop to the valley floor below, but she remains convinced there was someone there. It was around the time of the whole "Killer Clown" thing, so we wondered if it was some incredibly dedicated prankster. However, I'd not seen any parked cars nearby, the weather was pretty poor and there was very little traffic at that time in the morning. It reminded me of what my Dad had told me about the ghosts of the children under the pylon, years earlier, but had forgotten about until then. When I tried to recount his story, she told me to "shut up and change the subject".
Same thing happened to me but in reverse. I was coming back from Manchester airport back to Barnsley we had got off out flight from Tenerife in December 2016 around 2am due to a delay so around 3:30 am we were coming on the stocksbridge bypass I saw a figure at the side of the road in cloak
It was a great show I remember it well presented by Michael Aspel, I remember the one of a man driving home late at night in his work van and passing someone in the exact same vehicle as he passed he looked at the person in the car to see it was himself. Weird.
Me too! Loved that series! I used to go to work conferences at Wortley Hall, I never experienced anything spooky (apart from colleagues after 4 hours at the bar) and luckily didn't have to go there on the bypass.
I've been trying to track down a TV ghost account for ages. I remember Strange But True, but can't remember if they showed American accounts on there? The story I need is based in America, where a mother and her teenage daughter drive to church. The girl is bored so stays in the car while her mother attends the service. Then they start to drive home. On the way they see a girl with long (dark?) hair standing (or sitting in the grass) at the side of the road, on the verge. They drive a little further and the same girl is again on the verge, but in no way could she have got where she was. The next time they see her the mother decides to turn the car around and go back to see if the girl needs help. The daughter gets such a feeling of sudden terror that she hides in the footwell pleading for her mother not to do it and to please just drive away. The mother goes back to the girl, but when she stops the car the girl looks up and half her face is missing in a gory bloody mess. The mother speeds home, knocking over the gate in her haste (I think) and they are extremely terrified. It turns out the girl they saw was a high school (?) student who was run over and died in a car accident. The screenplay on this account was brilliant and it's stayed with me for years, but I can't track it down! Hope someone remembers it ?
Bedtime Stories: Stockbridge probably the most haunted bypass in the world! The ghosts from Cipularang highway, Tanjakan Emen and Cadas Pangeran road: hold our bandrek.
Most have moved something like fairy tree mound from Ireland my self Royal county Meath Ireland we have roads that are deffentily haunted plenty crashes and death😯😈
Makes me want to drive along there to see what spooks I will encounter, I'd drive slowly to ensure I don't crash. I've thought also that another story they could include in this series would be the 1922 expedition to King Tutenkhamun's tomb. The curse was a mystery, some say there was no such thing and others say that the untimely deaths of the explorers were the wrath of the long dead Pharaoh. It was Howard Carter who led that expedition if I remember rightly. All mysterious and spooky, indeed many horror films were made of that event, both at the time and since.
Hey dude, first of alll! I love your channel! La Rumorosa its a place in Mexico where numerous sightings of UFOs and ghosts happens this cause at least one fatal car crash a month. Even if it is rough to drive it isn't as bad. I once heard the story of a boy that was driving there at 7 pm. He knew the driveway really good soon he was aware he had just 30 minutes until reaching the end. Suddenly he saw a pair of bright blinding white lights in front of his car. His radio stopped and his lights turned off and all of these happened in just one blink. At least he though that. After that he approached to the side of the road and parked his car. Everything was functioning but he suddenly felt weird. His mother called him and the he noticed that he had almost 20 missing calls from his family. He was supposed to arrive to the end of LA rumorosa in just 30 minutes, 3 hours and half later, he was in the same spot not having memory of the last 3 hours of his life.
Bedtime Stories I can't believe I'm just finding you. Great stuff. Excellent narrator and scary as hell for which I am addicted and therefore thank you! I have subscribed and will like every time.
If anyone's been driving late at night you know how creepy it can get, haunted road or otherwise. It's just you and the car that you have to trust like a friend. Some years ago I was driving late at night for more than 100 KMs about every weekend. I remember there was just the road and feeling safe in the car while driving, thinking if this broke down right now I would have a REALLY bad time. Poor thing did break down once and had her towed to town. Considering how many kms it took me safely, I started feeling a connection to it since it felt like that was becoming my habitat. Had to sell it when I left everything behind but at least it went to its previous owner, who is still taking care of it to this day. I miss that car.
I wanna say thank you for great content and high quality videos. I stumbled on your channel by accident and I am loving it, listening to the videos while I work and sometimes appreciating the illustrations which by the way are awesome. I love how you don't use footages of any kind which usually lead to something fake but instead you use the illustrations which only makes us imagine even more of the scenario and situations while listening to your story. Regardless if all the stories are a hoax or not, it is a very well made production among a lot of crappy channels that there are with the same subject, a lot of them being clickbait and/or cliché jumpscares.
These are so well produced! Great job, I love listening to these while working the night shift, haha. I actually used to travel this stretch of road often, never saw anything spooky, but you did hear things from others.
dhiva a a a a ok so I watch this other channel called “something scary”. Why does Indonesia have so many horror stories!!!? America we have stuff like Bigfoot and mothmen
@@tallybarnie5453 oohhh i love snarled's something scary!! i listened to their podcast too!!. well, indonesia's superstition believe is hella strong and the influence of religion and supranatural things in indonesia is still widely spread and very much alive, so... hence the shit ton of ghosts and scary stories
Otlichno! I watch these every night before my sleeping hours especially conspiracies. The're are more darker and sinister things then ourselves. Keep up the work
Is it just me or does it seem like it’s rare to hear stories about ghosts from the Middle Ages (meaning stories involving those who died in the Middle Ages, not ghost stories originating in that period, which are equally fascinating)? That said, I was a bit confused by the description of the monk being in 18th century clothing. Monks habits for the most part look the same now as they did 500 years ago. There might have been some small 18th century details, but that creates another issue. There were no monks in England in the 18th century, the Catholic Church was still officially suppressed at that time.
I think these sightings can be explained very easily, the person behind the wheel is nearly asleep. As a truck driver there have been moments when I've seen non-existent animals running to the road, people walking alongside the road, "ghost" cars, etc. All caused by being extremely tired. It's no wonder collisions happen if the road is straight and narrow.
Okay you've got me hooked. I'm pleased that there is a channel that covers British stories as I am tired of seeing videos about places that I have no knowledge. You have my subscription. I think that maybe a local paranormal research team shouls do an investigation and try to contact the monk and other entities to find out why he is hauniting the area and if he/they are resposible for the accidents and why. Maybe the accidents are not directly caused by the spirits but a reaction to the spirit presence may startle or fighten the drivers which is the cause of the accidents (by accident not design).
Wow, this is a spooky case indeed! Imagine getting the sweet bejezus frightened out of you from a teleporting monk with no face! 👻😳 I worked as a security guard in an apparently modern-ish shopping centre a few years ago, and never really thought too much about ghostly incidents, until one night I was walking a back Passage and something brushed the nape of my neck. I remember saying: “Bugger off”, and left it at that. Scary video BS! 👍
I stumbled upon your videos and am completely in awe! Great job on the quality and thoroughness. Definitely will be donating soon. Congrats to all on these fine productions.
I live a few minutes drive from the bypass and use it often. Some of the ghost stories are very credible I'm open minded ( Ionce saw a monk figure in my bedroom when I was a kid even) but the road is of poor design and dangerous leading to the many accidents, I doubt they were caused by ghosts but by driver error. In at least the vast majority of cases. Possible I suppose the victims energy haunt the area.
I love these videos. I have one for u. My son went Missing for 7 months now. Every dream has lead me closer to finding him. Each time I dream I find something that belongs to him. Now I am waiting for the final dream that will led me to him.
I live in Sheffield and often had to travel through stocksbridge to get to my dads house in york and later whenever we had to go to my university. Often I’ve heard tales of people crashing due to spooky happening and my mum told me about the monk incident. I myself have had a few encounters such as ghostly cars and the stagecoach going over the hills. My friend had a monk encounter herself driving home from her boyfriends house. I also heard the monk been seen as far out as Loxely in cases
I am from stocksbridge and when I was a child (back in the late 70's, early 80's) I used to hike up them hills all the time, where the bypass is now, and I never once encountered anything paranormal. It was only once the bypass was built that people were experiencing ghostly encounters, a girl I knew actually saw the monk, or at least she claimed she did. So yeah I have to maybe agree that building the bypass disturbed the monks grave, because I have literally hiked them hills throughout my childhood, and never saw anything....
Y'know, two of the most terrifying ghost-related things I can think of happening while I'm in my car are 1) an apparition appearing in my passenger seat, and 2) something terrifying appearing right outside my driver side window. Fucking hell. ....This is one of the most fucking terrifying stories I've ever heard, is what I'm saying...
Seems a lot of the topics you cover seem to be where I live or near I am in keighley west yorkshire. You should look into east riddlesden hall and the black bull in haworth. very spooky places I have stayed in both. I like your channel mate.
I drove through there a few years ago with my grandad and he told me about the monk running across the road and the accidents. Im so glad to have found a video about it.
I was driving ones on a bridge in my country. Rumours were not uncommon and I live at a place where legend and superstitions can easily be interpreted as reality. It was late at night and I had the bad luck of being all alone, surrounded by the unending darkness that as if consumed my car. Suddenly a dark feeling clawed itself to me as I felt a presence with me, watching me, waiting me. I looked around jokingly as to calm myself and just when all seemed as if it was over I felt as if a chilling knife has been placed in my heart as a cloaked figure stood right in front of me. I did not panic, I remembered my training and shouted: "- I am not dying in a bad horror movie today, Nun" and drove through her as the trunk and top of my car were covered in blood and gore. Moral of the story: hoocoers shouldnt dress as monks in the middle of the road late at night.
I love your channel so much, i'm actually addicted to it. You deserve more subscribers, i mean the effort you put to make these great videos must be a lot. I wish you all the best
I got a friend named Lori. Everytime anyone talks about a crash with a lorri I imagine someone running into her and then her coming out fine while the other person's car crumples.
Bloody good that. I knew about the security guards and the policemen. And the joggers. But why would a monk be dressed in 18th century garb when the dissolution of the monasteries took place in the 16th century? Anyway, I’ve subscribed. 👍😀
Because he wanted to be modern! There were still monks in England in the 18th century, just a lot less since the Resolution. There are still some monasteries now in England.
Everyone assumes that any cloaked figure is a monk. Until the 20th century, everybody wore cloaks or capes as outerwear, so the figure may not be a monk at all.
I'd almost put the Stocksbridge Bypass stories down to urban legends rather than stories of an actual haunting. I've heard all these stories myself, dozens of times, over the many years I've been interested in the paranormal, and all the smaller details keep changing. The two security guards in your story are often presented as two police officers, for example. And the Rector is a new character, this is the first time I've heard of a Rector insisting the police check it out, as far as I'm aware. Though there are some facets of this story that always remain the same - the two men, whatever their profession, are always shit scared, there's always a monk, and there's always children.
Your wrong the story hasn't changed, there were two Security Guards and also two police officers, PC Dick Ellis was a respected police officer John Beet was a Special Constable. Neither pair are interchangeable. The story as told here is true! I suggest you watch this again and the other videos on youtube about the by-pass!
Speaking of Barghest, perhaps do a video solely on that. That is something that has always intrigued me, how there are so many unrelated recounts of it.
Ryan Dark ay bruh, that shit discount? Cuz I’ve seen the life coach with the white carriage and white horses with white plumes and that shit spensive as hell. Shiiiiit🧐
danzig mcnaniel I personally drive the half-dead coach. Only 3 horses, two gray and one brown. I tied some feathers to their heads to make them more intimidating.
I went with my friends twice about 8 years ago, we were still hanging out of the windows trying to get in the cars when the drivers were trying to get away the last time. The first time we saw a black dog figure darting towards us in the field to the right hand side of the pylon at about 11pm roughly the 2nd time - we heard kids singing ring a round a rosie under the pylon and what spooked everyone was the large black figure moving in an inhuman way and speed towards the cars will never return after that.
Years ago when I was driving at night I saw a similar thing mentioned here, a big dog like creature with pointy ears and red eyes. It's at the side of the road and it appears to be sitting and waiting, my initial thoughts where that its weird that the dog has red eyes but scared after a minute when I thought about it again. but prior to that dog instance a couple of minutes earlier, I almost got in an accident because there's a big sack of something in the middle of the road fortunately I saw it and immediately swerved to avoid it. A very ominous experience and I don't want that to happen again.
Speaking of ghosts, i myself have seen some strange things. One evening i went out for groceries and decided to cut through the cemetery and past the church. Once i got close to the church, the door opened on its own. I ofcourse thought that someone was simply late out or forgot something and decided to come back for it, but when i looked into the entrance, it was completely dark and empty... i made a run for it. I also noticed some newly decorated coffins right next to the church, as if someone had recently deceased.
There is a road like this in Hawaii, on the east side of Oahu. It was a bypass, and supposedly disturbed some burial caves. It has a rep for Night Marchers and lots of accidents. Thelocals won't drive on it after dark.
Love your excellent work and channel. 💓🙋🏼♀️. Have you ever or would you cover, the bluebell hill story ? Only thing about this one is the nurse coming home from shift. If she died, then how would anyone know her story or what she experienced ?
Reminds me of the Porcupine Tree song ‘The Incident’ the lyrics go “There is weed and grey concrete like this for miles Dead souls in my rear view mirror hitch a ride a while”
Moral of the story: If you see a person wearing a cloak suddenly appear in the road in front of your car, just go ahead and drive right through it.
"It was a ghost monk! I had to drive straight through to escape."
"No , sir, that was a Ren Faire cosplayer.
Ever thinking that the ghost will pass through the inside of the car, then you see the ghost inside the car only by its torso.
They'll be reading that out at your court case. Ah well.....
seapr6 amen. No pun intended
I admit, "Ghost bridge" sounds better than "Pea Royd" bridge. Pea Royds sounds like a medical condition.
host bridge sounds like it could appear and disappear at any time.
Pea Royds sounds painful
Glad I am not the only one who thinks it sounds like a nasty STD
I think my dog might have pea royds.. 🤔
The word 'royd' is very prevalent around the locality . I think it means 'land' however I could be wrong. Stocks bridge is just over the hill from me
I was on Stocksbridge bypass yesterday and the road has changed quite a bit since I was last there.
Which one is true is there ghosts or is it bad design of the road. Go ask ask people who live there.
They need to put up Ghost Crossing signs along the road. Problem solved.
Michael .Wise agreed
I say go for it
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant reply.. Not feeling well and this made me chuckle.. Thanks Michael
Yes.
She didn't instantly she lived a few days ive travelled that A road its not to far from me.
Bedtime Stories You'd have more luck in proving with 100% certainty that aliens and ghosts are real, than having people read video descriptions!
Deaf From Above It seems you're not capable of understanding what you read.
I've lived near here all my life and everything you've said is true, however during the construction they found remains of an actual monastery, that's where the Monk came from
Why’s it evil though? Was it a satanic monk
@@kidofsteel0362 I can honestly say its never felt satanic, not to me anyway. Its felt sad more than anything. Its a very dangerous stretch of road and alot of people have died there, so many its just absorbing the energy from there?

Actually, frustratingly I made a delivery to only a.few miles from Hexham the other day (Hexham Heads also covered by Bedtime Stories!) and if I'd had time I would have loved to have gone to check out the origins of that account too!
Next time, maybe! Fascinating stuff.

This is by far the most intriguing and well animated channel in here.

Finally, some common sense in these comments. People go crazy for this nonsense. Good entertainment though.
@@rwentfordable
Nonsense? Oh dear.
@@marybdrake1472
The turn off for wortley is dangerous as it’s just after an up hill overtaking lane that people race up, it bottle necks at the top of the crest, the turning is directly afterwards and is hidden by concrete bridge supports, people turning onto the bypass, can’t see the cars coming until they’re about 30 yards away, coming toward them at least 50-60mph.
@@ydnallah1541 That is indeed bad road design.
It make me wonder how it happened.
Of course you haven't, silly. You haven't seen anything "out of the ordinary" for the simple reason that there isn't anything "out of the ordinary" to see.
Yeah you won't, but scary stories are still fun lol
I've heard they've rebuilt the worst stretch of the bypass so it's not as dangerous now.
Of the two security guards, one moved to Canada, and the other hasn't worked since.
I wish I could find out more about this, it's so fascinating, and the report of the two police offers lend it a lot of credibility. It's one of my favorite ghost stories from the UK. Thank you for uploading.
They put speed checks on the road ,people used to drive like idiots on it before this , however I have done many a ghost hunt here , never actually seen anything, but have an open mind on the subject.
yeah the bypass is fine now, I live in Stocksbridge

How's the head injury?
Few months ago i was driving from my relatives and a deadly crash happened few kilometers in front of me. At the time when the slow traffic allowed me to pass the accident site i glimpsed at two or more dead people on the road that had just been pulled out from the wrecks. There was no paranormal activity. It was just very scarry to imagine that any moment when you drive you can become someone lying on the cold road covered with a sheet and emergency personell pulling your dead family or friends out of your wrecked car.
Drive carefull and never drive under influence or lack of sleep!
Indeed. Thankyou for the Sobering and important post. A friend of ours died just 4 days ago in a car crash. Drive safely people.
I live close to stocksbridge bypass, i can walk there in roughly half an hour, I actually want to look for the ghosts here
I wish you luck, but include me out.
[IG Leader] TheRealXephi you should definitely do it - take video footage at separate times of the day, also.
I should be asleep but I’m up binge watching your videos... I’m going to be so tired in the morning but I can’t stop!!!
I'd often go over Stockbridge on the way to Manchester Airport when I was a kid going on holiday, and I remember my dad telling me about people seeing a hooded figure/ person in medieval monk robes on the road.
but did you ever see one?
Putting aside the old 'do ghosts exist or not' debate, I always find it funny how so many people claim that ghosts appear to cause deaths of people, when it could well be they appear as a warning to drivers that they are in danger and should proceed cautiously from the point of appearance. Sadly, most people's thoughts on ghosts always lead to feat and hence actions acting out of fear, which lend a hand in this premature death.
harkeill If I was killed by a Ghost, then I would also turn into a ghost and I would kick it in the nuts!
If I saw a ghost, I wouldn't run; I would try to talk to it. Maybe it would be friendly - you don't know if you don't try.
That would be a good explanation, but I am reminded that those guards said they felt threatened by the monk's presence.
Trust me

Karina Nal hi there it could have been named from the Vikings back in the day , they traveled far ! Cheers from Harrison hot springs BC ,Canada .
I was just sharing information with you
Hello from royal hill Tara county Meath Ireland☺ Vikings paid few visits to Ireland way back☺
Most rivers in England, Don included, still have their original Celtic names, despite most towns and villages having Anglo-Saxon names. Not sure why we didn't rename them since I never found a reasonable explanation
Thames is another example of a Celtic name
Interesting to a Swede as myself it always sounded to contrived to be true. The two cultures are to wide apart from each other.

The H1 in Hawaii is said to be both cursed and haunted for the fact it was built over sacred land. Would love to see an episode on haunted, American roads with that in it.
Great channel. Love the narration and the stories are ones that I haven’t heard a million times before. Thanks.

Yeah I remember Strange but True!! Loved it!
Robes and hoods were quite common attire in the middle ages. Not only monks wore them.
I live nearby.... the stories are true... my dad saw children running down the road who then disappeared. He still avoids the bypass even in daylight

There were no monks in England in the 18th century, the Catholic Church was still officially suppressed at that time.
that introductory monologue is well made!
i very much appreciate verbal flourish on display.
I worked as a security guard in an apparently modern-ish shopping centre a few years ago, and never really thought too much about ghostly incidents, until one night I was walking a back Passage and something brushed the nape of my neck. I remember saying: “Bugger off”, and left it at that.

Watched this and every time the monk was shown, I felt like he was in my room watching me. This episode skeeved me out big time. Very creepy😟😦
Gorgeous artwork. I love it. Very well done. Great stories too.
I love these videos. I have one for u. My son went Missing for 7 months now. Every dream has lead me closer to finding him. Each time I dream I find something that belongs to him. Now I am waiting for the final dream that will led me to him.
Much much easier to listen to your older vids compared to your newer ones.
I did not panic, I remembered my training and shouted:
"- I am not dying in a bad horror movie today, Nun" and drove through her as the trunk and top of my car were covered in blood and gore. Moral of the story: hoocoers shouldnt dress as monks in the middle of the road late at night.
OH SHIT!! Wicked twist🔀🔀
I love your channel so much, i'm actually addicted to it. You deserve more subscribers, i mean the effort you put to make these great videos must be a lot. I wish you all the best
I love these scary stories🖤
My condolences to the family members who passed away on this horrible stretch of road.
May the crash victims R.I.P. 🇦🇺
RIP people so lost on the road.
This is one of Bedtime Stories' all-time eeriest and most unsettling episodes. It really holds up.
I got a friend named Lori. Everytime anyone talks about a crash with a lorri I imagine someone running into her and then her coming out fine while the other person's car crumples.
Why do I remember this being in the first series of Strange but True that aired in 1994
Bloody good that. I knew about the security guards and the policemen. And the joggers. But why would a monk be dressed in 18th century garb when the dissolution of the monasteries took place in the 16th century?
Anyway, I’ve subscribed. 👍😀
You can take the man out of hooded garb, but you can't take hooded garb out of the man.
Because he wanted to be modern! There were still monks in England in the 18th century, just a lot less since the Resolution. There are still some monasteries now in England.
that doesn't mean monasteries no longer exist en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_monastic_houses_in_England
There are monks in the UK today.
There are even monks who wear cassocks.
Also, A616 road or A13 road. 616 comes to 13. That's eerie.
But 13 comes to 4.
Speaking of Barghest, perhaps do a video solely on that. That is something that has always intrigued me, how there are so many unrelated recounts of it.
I've seen the death coach, the black carriage is pulled by 6 black horses with black plumes

Black plumes; rolling coal?
Ryan, you've seen a funeral.
Good vid well worth checking out the old strange but true episode on this story its floating somewere on yt
One of the better stories on the internet
Opened on Friday May 13, 1988????? They were asking for it.
Cinthia 9 - yeah, kinda like poking an angry bear with a sharp stick. Never a good idea
Exactly what I was thinking. Just open it on Saturday or Thursday, for Pete's sake. Opening anything on Froday the 13 is just asking for a bad time.
Today i learned what a maypole and lorry truck is. Great channel, liked and subbed! :)
Wow, that's the only thing i can say. You have a real talent at narrating these stories.
If the person in the first story died then how did y’all get all those little details of the car crash?
Love your excellent work and channel. 💓🙋🏼♀️. Have you ever or would you cover, the bluebell hill story ? Only thing about this one is the nurse coming home from shift. If she died, then how would anyone know her story or what she experienced ?
Reminds me of the Porcupine Tree song ‘The Incident’ the lyrics go “There is weed and grey concrete like this for miles
Dead souls in my rear view mirror hitch a ride a while”
